In the east of Slovakia is Levoča, formerly, Leutschau. In 1317 the city became a free royal town with numerous privileges. Kaschau Gate is the most beautiful of the three well-preserved city gates and the two and a half kilometre city wall once contained fifteen bastions. Levoča eventually became the capital of the region occupied by the Zipser Saxons. The main square contains forty Renaissance-style buildings once owned by the Bourgeoisie and indicate the former wealth of the inhabitants of this city of trade. Jakob Cathedral is regarded as a national treasure. Mighty buttresses support a beautiful net vault, the result, a mediaeval atmosphere. In the half-light, there are various side altars and many splendid murals. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries the city was one of Europe’s most important centres of trade due to the trade routes that crossed here between Hungary and Poland. A mighty ring wall, with only two exits, protected the nearby Spišská Kapitula Church. The Romanesque Martin Basilica is the most important building in the complex which was founded in 1198. Of the former thirteen Gothic altars, five remain. Finally, both Levoča and Spišská Kapitula have managed to survive Turkish invasion, various sieges mounted by the troops of the Habsburgs, and numerous deadly plagues!

The ruins of Spiš Castle (Slovak: Spišský hrad, Hungarian: Szepesi vár, German: Zipser Burg) in eastern Slovakia form one of the largest castle sites in Central Europe. The castle is situated above the town of Spišské Podhradie and the village of Žehra, in the region known as Spiš (Hungarian: Szepes, German: Zips, Polish: Spisz, Latin: Scepusium). It was included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1993 (together with the adjacent locations of Spišská Kapitula, Spišské Podhradie and Žehra). This is one of the biggest European castles by area (41 426 m²).( )

Spišský hrad je hradná zrúcanina zaberajúca vrchol travertínovej kopy Spišský hradný vrch, tvoriaca dominantu širokého okolia na hlavnom cestnom ťahu spájajúcom východoslovenské regióny Spiš a Šariš. Je nielen dokladom vývoja architektúry od 12. do 18. storočia u nás, ale svojou rozlohou prevyšujúcou 4 hektáre (presne 41 426 m²) je jedným z najväčších hradných komplexov na Slovensku a aj v Európe.
Napriek tomu, že sa vypína nad mestom Spišské Podhradie, katastrálne patrí územiu obce Žehra (jej miestnej časti Hodkovce) v okrese Spišská Nová Ves v Košickom kraji.( )

Zamek Spiski -- zabytkowy kompleks zamkowy na Słowacji z przełomu XI i XII wieku jest zaliczany do największych tego typu w środkowej Europie, cały kompleks zamkowy zajmuje powierzchnię ok. 4 ha. Obecnie większość zamku jest zrujnowana, część murów obronnych została odbudowana współcześnie. Zamek położony jest na na terenie Żehry (Žehra), która należy do najstarszych miejscowości na Spiszu. W 1993 roku w uznaniu jego znaczenia dla kultury tych ziem, został on wpisany wraz okolicą na listę światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO.( )

Spiss Castle & Levoca Town - UNESCO World Heritage Site
The UNESCO World Heritage site of Spiss Castle (Spissky Hrad) is an enormous ruined castle in central Slovakia, dating from the 12th century and a former residence of the Hungarian kings. There are several distinct phases of buildings - Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance, though sadly much of the detail has been lost in the fires which destroyed the site. Nearby Levoca town is also fantastic, with a great medieval town square and some beautiful Renaissance buildings.

MAGICKÝ SLOVENSKÝ RAJ (Slovak National Paradise)
I finally got to visit Slovak National Paradise….after being 27 years old and being born in Slovakia it was about time to visit this GEM of a place. It is becoming more and more popular and recently it got pretty crowded. Id say the past 2 years. Luckily when me and @waterlemonrea got here we started our hike early at 8am and we had the whole place to ourselves. I even got to fly the @gopro karma drone and captured this beautiful shot! Thank you to @waterlemonrea for this amazing trip. She got this trip for me as my bday gift all the way back in April of this year. I am glad we got to go. Thanks again! Recently I have been captivated by bird’s eye views the drone provides. Hope you like it!? Would you like to see more of these? Much love for all the comments and likes.
