Here is what I filmed of the African group at The Annual Narita Taiko Festival on April 15th. I really liked how they were there bringing in a completely different fun vibe with them.

【English】All About Hiraizumi#12 Irises Swaying in the Wind of Pure Land
Broadcasted on June 24th, 2015
Irises of different colors blooming in Motsu-ji Garden, Special Place of Scenic Beauty designated by the nation.
Today we will introduce you Motsu-ji Iris Festival.
Iris Garden is located in front of Kaisando Hall in Motsu-ji which enshrines the statute of Jikaku Daishi.
We interviewed Ms. Horei Nanto, a nun of Motsu-ji, about Iris Festival.
Will you tell us about the history of Iris Garden?
The garden began in 1953 by a proposal of Hiraizumi citizens. The following year, temple received 100 irises of 100 varieties from Meiji Jingu Shrine. Now 30,000 irises representing 300 varieties in the garden are in full bloom.
Which is the most unusual kind?
There is a flower called White Dragon’s Nail. It blooms in the form of a bud with petals closed. It is a very rare kind.
Compared to the irises with draped petals, the petals actually appear closed.
White Dragon’s Nail is a valuable breed said to have been planted since the late Edo period.
Various kinds of irises have been created along with the change of the times. The number of varieties is said to be over 2000. We can enjoy seeing each and every kind of flowers.
Please tell us about the events held during Iris Festival.
During the Iris Festival, different kinds of activities will be held, such as ‘Sketching Event for Children’, ‘Traditional Japanese Music Concert’ and ‘Ennen no Mai’, which has been designated as a national significant intangible folk cultural asset, will be performed.
Irises swaying in the wind of Pure Land. They are beautiful under the fine weather, but they also show different expressions on a rainy day or at dusk. Motsu-ji Iris Festival is started on June 20th every year until July 10th. Please come to Motsu-ji and enjoy the festival.

All About Hiraizumi#12 Motsu-ji Iris Festival
Broadcasted on June 25th, 2014
In Motsu-ji, 'Motsu-ji Iris Festival' is being held from June 20th.
30,000 iris plants of 300 different types are charmingly grown in the Pure Land Garden.
¬
We asked Mr. Shirayama, a monk of Motsu-ji, to talk about the irises there.
When it comes to iris, each plant will produce three successive flowerings.
After the top flower finishes its bloom, then the middle one starts to
bloom. When the second one is over, the third will come, they are blooming
in order.
And their petals are different in size, you can distinguish their types by seeing
it.
When you visit Motsu-ji during the Festival, please check it and enjoy the
flowers.
The irises blooming in Motsu-ji can be categorized into three types.
The Edo-type is tall with single petals. The Ise-type is shorter with draped petals. The Higo-type has lightly-draped large blooms.
Of course, the irises are so beautiful when it is fine, but they are seen at their most beguiling under the cloudy sky of the rainy season.
They are boosting their attractiveness like a woman wearing kimono.
During the Iris Festival, different kinds of activities will be held, such as 'Sketching Event for Children', 'Traditional Japanese Music Concert' and 'Ennen no Mai', which has been designated as a national significant intangible folk cultural asset, will be performed.
This year, the irises bloom a little bit earlier than usual. They will be in full bloom at the end of this weekend. Motsu-ji Iris Festival is held from June 20th to July 10th every year. Please come and see the irises in Motsu-ji.
