Japan Off The Beaten Path: Autumn In Akita Prefecture | Japan Travel Guide
Japan Off The Beaten Path is a new series on my channel, where I show you more of the unknown areas/prefectures in Japan and encourage you to travel and visit areas other than the common places such as Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
In this first episode, we visit and explore around Akita Prefecture in the Tohoku region of northern Honshu, the main island of Japan.
I came here during Autumn(end of October), which is the perfect time to come to see the autumn foliage!

As for transportation, it takes 4 hours to get from Tokyo station to Akita station via the Akita Komachi Bullet Train.
It costs around ¥17,000($160 USD) however if you have the JR pass you just have to pay the small fee of the reserved seat on the Shinkansen(all seats are reserved).
Or if you are going up to Hokkaido or coming back down from Hokkaido, you can change at the Shin-Aomori station and take the local JR train down to Odate station.
Going back to Tokyo from Shin-Aomori station is also possible by taking the Hayabusa bullet train. (Around ¥17,000)
Even though Akita is in Japan, each prefecture is so unique in it's own way - I learned so much from this trip and could see a different side of Japan.. I hope to share this kind of Japan more and more with you through my channel :)
and lastly, a big big big thank you to my friends at Akita Inu Tourism for showing me around Akita!!!! Couldn't have done this video without you!

ABANDONED PLACES JAPAN: EXPLORING THE WORLD PEACE GIANT KANNON STATUE AWAJI ISLAND
I went on my first abandoned exploration through the ruins of an abandoned temple site on Awaji Island. I don't do urban exploration videos on my channel but I've wanted to visit the Heiwakannon-ji site for two years.
This is the 4th tallest statue in Japan and the 13th tallest in the world at 80 metres in height. It's seriously quite the sight. Even if it's possibly haunted.
I read a couple of really informative blogs about this strange place and they're available here:

Most Beautiful and Breathtaking Places - Aomori, Japan
Before visiting Hokkaido, it is good to take a trip to Aomori, which is the northern province of Japan (a departure point to Hokkaido). Aomori is covered with many natural wonders, with lakes and forest. Walking in the Oirase forest in Towada is truly refreshing and rewarding especially to get a look and touch of the Oirase Stream. Visit in the month of April with the cherry blossom festifal is awesome. Places in Aomori qualifies to be the Most Beautiful and Breathtaking Places in Japan.

Nagoya festival 1 Japan movie
We are at the nagoya festival on Saturday near our hotel. The audience has arrived here three hours in advance, so we are not at the forefront. It is also a beautiful parade of traditional groups. There are also some groups of Disney in the parrade.
Tohoku Reconstruction - Katana Master demo
You know that I don't even know how to edit yet but I thought that you would forgive the poor quality as I am showing you the behind the scenes of today's event.
7 years ago, it is not only Fukushima that has been affected by the earthquake but the whole Northeast region that we call Tohoku.
Today, I had the priviledge of attending an event held by the Reconstruction Agency.
10 companies showed us what they have done in 2017 to help reconstructing Tohoku and bring in more and more tourists. They also showed us their plan for 2018 and then, we voted for the 3 companies that we thought had done the greatest work!
Honestly, all these companies are doing an amazing job to try and promote Tohoku and its beautiful landscapes, culture and... FOOD AND SAKE!!!!
I soooooooo want to become Tohoku's Sake ambassador, lol!
The Northeast of Japan is truly an amazing area with lots of hidden treasures. I can only recommend that you go, visit and enjoy the local food and scenery.
