CASTILLOS DE ESPAÑA (Parte I)
Castillo (del latín castellum, diminutivo de castrum) es, según definición del Diccionario de la RAE, un «lugar fuerte, cercado de murallas, baluartes, fosos y otras fortificaciones». Existe toda una serie de edificaciones militares que guardan analogías con el castillo, como el alcázar, el torreón, la atalaya, el fuerte, el palacio fortificado, la ciudadela o la alcazaba, lo que hace que no siempre sea fácil asegurar si se trata o no de un castillo propiamente dicho. Se tiene normalmente por tal el conjunto formado por un recinto amurallado que encierra un patio de armas, en torno al cual se sitúan una serie de dependencias y que dispone de al menos una torre habitable.
