Harsil uttarakhand (A beautiful documentary)
Hii friends, this is my video about the Harsil hill station of Uttarakhand. Harsil lies in the way to Gangotri(one of the char dhams). It is approximately 100km ahead from district and it is situated in Uttarkashi district. Harsil is famous for its glacial streams, Himalayan peaks, Apple orchards and beautiful views. It is also famous for its bollywood film ram teri ganga meli shooting point. The exact point of this film is Mandakini waterfall which lies in the Harsil. It was the fabulous journey to Harsil on the way of our Gangotri trip in 2018. So lets enjoy this beautiful video about Harsil uttarakhand (A beautiful documentary).

The drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri is incredibly scenic, specially the stretch from Gangnani to Gangotri. We did encounter a few landslides, narrow roads but nothing too troublesome.

Ten must do treks in Garhwal Himalaya.
For true adventure seekers, the less crowded, in fact mostly isolated Himalayan terrains of the Garhwal region make for perfect trekking destinations. In fact, the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand had the potential of being the world’s most preferred trekking destination had Nepal not opened its borders to foreigners in 1950, as Garhwal was the region where people like Lord Curzon and Frank Smythe trekked and explored
1. Gangotri Glacier
The trek to the ever receding Gangotri Glacier makes for a must do trek in one’s lifetime. A moderate trek which begins at Gangotri (about 105 kms from Uttarkashi) and in the course of 18 kms takes one through a fast changing landscape and brings one across the most beautiful offerings of the Himalayas in terms of spectacular views of the Himalayan peaks like Sudarshan, Bhagirathi sisters, Shivling, etc and Himalayan fauna.
2. Dayara Buggyal
Dayara Buggyal, along with its twin, Gidara Buggyal, is perhaps one of the most beautiful alpine meadows in India. The meadows stretch out far and wide and all around the meadows are the many towering snow peaks.
3. Deoria Tal- Chandrashila or Chopta-Tungnath-Chandrashila
Chandrashila, located at an altitutde of around 4000 metres above sea level, is the summit of Tungnath, the highest Shiva Temple in the world at 3680 metres.
4. Valley of Flowers
The Valley of Flowers National Park is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It was discovered by a lost Frank Smythe who was returning from a successful Kamet expedition in 1931, which happened to be the highest climbed mountain peak at that time.
5. Har Ki Dun
The Har ki Dun trek takes one through one of the most beautiful valleys in the western Garhwal Himalaya. It makes for an easy trek and hence attracts many first-timers. The trek starts from Sankri village in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand and gives spectacular views of the Swargarohini Peak. The maximum altitude attained during this trek is close to 12000 ft and the trail passes along the picturesque villages of Sankri, Osla, Seema and Taluka.
6. Roopkund
Roopkund, popularly known as the Skeleton Lake is a high altitude Himalayan lake at an altitude of 4800 metres above sea level in the Chamoli District of Garhwal. The villages of Wan and Lohajung in Kumaon act as the base camp for the trek to Roopkund.
7. Kuari Pass
Kuari Pass is a must-do trek in the winters. Lord Curzon, the 35th Viceroy of India and a great explorer discovered this trekking route. At an altitude of 4264 metres, Kuari Top is a natural amphitheatre where some of the stalwart peaks of Himalayas take stage. The 7000’ers visible from here include Kamet (7756m), Trishul (7120m), Chaukhamba (7128m), and Nanda Devi (7817m) and its twin Nanda Devi East (7434m).
8. Dodital
Dodital is a freshwater lake in Uttarakhand, India, situated at a height of 3,024 metres in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand and makes for an ideal trek for beginners.
9. Kedarnath
Even though it is known more for being a Hindu religious shrine, at over 3500 metres above sea level, Kedarnath is an enchanting place and makes for an enticing Himalayan trek. A trek of around 14 kms. from Gaurikund, the trek follows a well laid out path taken by pilgrims to the temple. Behind the Kedarnath shrine one gets to see Kedarnath and Kedarnath Dome peaks, both of which are around 7000 metres in height.
10.Rudragaira Base Camp
The trek to the base camp of the Rudragaira peak (5819m) begins from Gangotri in Uttarkashi district and is classified as a moderate to difficult level trek taking one to a height of about of 5400 metres en route.

A splendid journey to Uttarkashi(Uttarakhand)
Hii friends this is my new video about A splendid journey to Uttarkashi(Uttarakhand). Uttarkashi is a beautiful town of Uttranchal state of India. It is the very district where the famous Gangotri and Yamunotri pilgrimage is situated. We made our trip to Gangotri dham in the month of October 2018 and during our way to Gangotri we visited and explored the beautiful Uttarkashi town. We go very deep to this holy town. We enjoyed its icy rivers, saw the Icy Himalayan peaks, fertile valleys and also visited the famous Nehru Institute of Mountaineering(NIM). We started our journey to Uttarkashi from our hometown Kurukshetra and went through the holy cities of Haridwar and Rishikesh. Uttarkashi is approximately 170 km. So enjoy this video on Uttarkashi.

Uttarkashi, meaning Kashi of the north, is a town in Uttarakhand, India. It is the district headquarters of Uttarkashi district. Uttarkashi is situated on the banks of river Bhagirathi at an altitude of 1158 m above sea level. Uttarkashi is generally known as a holy town close to Rishikesh. It is located in the state of Uttarakhand in India. Uttarkashi is home to a number of ashrams and temples and also to the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. The name of the town reflects its similarity to and location (as north of) the city of Kashi (Varanasi). Similar to Varanasi, town of Uttarkashi is situated on the Ganges, lies next to a hill named Varunavat, on confluence of two rivers Varuna and Asi, has a ghat called Manikarnika Ghat and has a temple dedicated to Shiva similar to (Kashi Vishwanath Temple) in Varanasi , in the center of the town.

Ghansali is a small town situated almost 65 kilometres from New Tehri and is an important market for adjacent areas. This small town is situated at bank of Bal Ganga and Bhilangana River and also a confluence point of these two river at the height of 976 Meters from sea level.

A short take on the hilly district of Garhwal in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand.
An old clip of the 1990's shows the life of the Garhwalis - the natives of Garhwal region. Village women, men and children attend a community meeting. At the village edge, a fresh water stream flows, even as a man fetches water from a village community tap, perhaps deprived of water.
A baba walks across a bridge with his blanket and kamandalu, while a young boy herds his mules. A paramilitary force personnel herds a group of khachars swiftly along the road to Uttarkashi. Some shots of the landscape with acres of farming from the local region. Middle aged women carry heavy loads of hay back from the fields, as a Black Partridge calls repeatedly from the fields. Young men and women also carry harvested crops on their backs.

Effect of flood in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand
In June 2013, a multi-day cloudburst centered on the North Indian state of Uttarakhand caused devastating floods and landslides in the country's worst natural disaster since the 2004 tsunami. Though parts of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in India, some regions of Western Nepal, and some parts of Western Tibet also experienced heavy rainfall, over 95% of the casualties occurred in Uttarakhand. As of 16 July 2013, according to figures provided by the Uttarakhand government, more than 5,700 people were presumed dead. This total included 934 local residents.
Destruction of bridges and roads left about 100,000 pilgrims and tourists trapped in the valleys leading to three of the four Hindu Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites . The Indian Air Force, the Army and paramilitary troops evacuated more than 110,000 people from the flood ravaged area.
Landslides, due to the floods, damaged several houses and structures, killing those who were trapped. The heavy rains resulted in large flashfloods and massive landslides. Entire villages and settlements such as Gaurikund and the market town of Ram Bada, a transition point to Kedarnath, have been obliterated, while the market town of Sonprayag suffered heavy damage and loss of lives. Pilgrimage centres in the region, including Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, the hallowed Hindu Chardham (four sites) pilgrimage centers, are visited by thousands of devotees, especially after the month of May onwards. Over 70,000 people were stuck in various regions because of damaged or blocked roads. People in other important locations like the Valley of flowers, Roopkund and the Sikh pilgrimage centre Hemkund were stranded for more than three days. National Highway 58, an important artery connecting the region was also washed away near Jyotirmath and in many other places. Because summers have more number of tourists, the number of people impacted is substantial. For more than three days, stranded pilgrims and tourists were without rations or survived on little food. The roads were seriously damaged at more than 450 places, resulting in huge traffic jams, and the floods caused many cars and other vehicles to be washed away. On June 18, more than 12,000 pilgrims were stranded at Badrinath, the popular pilgrimage center located on the banks of the Alaknanda River. Rescuers at the Hindu pilgrimage town of Haridwar on the river Ganga recovered bodies of 40 victims washed down by the flooded rivers as of June 21 2013. Bodies of people washed away in Uttarakhand were found in distant places like Bijnor, Allahabad and Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.
