Bolam Creek Falls- Northern California Waterfalls- Mt Shasta Wilderness- backpacking -2018
Mount Shasta Wilderness backpacking- Sep 2018. I had an awesome overnight trip into the Mt Shasta Wilderness to visit Bolam Creek Falls on the north side of Shasta. There are three amazing waterfalls on Bolam Creek, fed by melting Bolam Glacier. I camped beside the upper waterfall with a view of Mt Shasta and Shastina and the waterfall in one shot. The trail starts at the North Gate trailhead on the established trail, but much of the journey is cross country in the Shasta Wilderness with no trail to follow.
FYI, I do not take Squawk with me on backpacking trips. He wants me to carry him up all the hills. Sasquatches are very heavy!

In this video, we head off to Durango, CO. In the first couple of minutes, I am waiting to see if the bear will appear. Afterward, we get on the road. Along the way, we see different mountains, forests, towns, and desert plains. At the end of the video, we roll into Durango. I will cover Durango, CO in a separate video.

Goat Canyon Trestle Bridge Day Hike Via Mortero Palms
We took a day hike to the Goat Canyon Trestle Bridge, part of the Impossible Railroad, in Eastern San Diego county via Mortero Palms. It's an old train trestle that runs from San Diego to Yuma and was built in the 30's as a result of an earthquake collapsing 1 of the 17 tunnels along the Carrizo Gorge. We drove a few hours South from Temecula via the 79 and S2 and parked in the Mortero Palms area. It is a grueling 6 mile round trip hike that took us just under 6 hours, with over +2,000 feet of elevation. This trail is not your typical day hike and should NOT be attempted if you are not comfortable with reading a map and compass. There is no marked trail. Please use one of the other routes to access the trestle.

This is simply our experience navigating this route and sharing it with others that may feel confident enough to try. It is a great hike if you are experienced outdoors, lots of variation. There is a decent amount of scrambling and basic mountaineering involved, along with ticks, rattlesnakes, goats and sheep. There is a palm oasis along the route which is one of the coolest things I've seen on a trail. Came across a shredded deer on the way out that definitely looked like a cat got it.
