The best of Brazil Uncovered | Lagoon Bonita Tour in Lençois Maranhenses with AVA TOURISM
The photos that we took on these tours in the North east of Brazil were some of the most impressive from our Latin American journeys. The sites were unbelievable and I can't recommend our guides enough.
Please write comments for you questions so that I can answer you. Please find all our guide information below. Jeff, the manager, speaks perfect English which is extremely challenging to find so I hope this information finds you well and please let me know how you get on.
Our tours left from Barreirinhas and this area is super safe unlike most places in Brazil. To get to this destination you must get a plain to Sao luis and then take a 5 hour bus which is easy to find and leaves every hour from the bus terminal if you want to be economical. Alternatively, you can book a private transfer which will cost considerably more. I was told about 300 reales, which is in the region of £75 at the current exchange.

The Best of Brazil Uncovered | Lencois Maranhenses and Cabure with AVA TOURISM
Lencois Maranhenses took my breath away in terms of landscapes. It would be hard to find somewhere more beautiful and despite the many safety issues, Barreirinhas is actually very safe. More so than a lot of places in Europe in my opinion. We walked home regularly in the evening with no care in the world.
The tours for here are also child friendly and family friendly. The tours are almost all available for children and it is no incredible necessary to book in advance. However, if you prefer to have exactly what you want, when you want it, then, here are our tour agency's contact information.

The only down side to this area is the difficulty to find English speakers, but this company does speak English so you are already ahead.

City Description:
Paraty is a small town backed by mountains on Brazil's Costa Verde, between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Its Portuguese colonial center has cobbled streets and 17th- and 18th-century buildings dating to its time as a port, during the Brazilian Gold Rush. Among its architectural landmarks is the waterfront Capela de Santa Rita, a whitewashed church built in 1722.From the nearby pier, boat excursions head into Paraty’s bay for snorkeling, diving and island exploration. Lining the coast and on some of the islands are dozens of beaches popular for swimming, sunbathing and surfing. Hikes in the mountainous Serra da Bocaina National Park take in rainforest, waterfalls and the Caminho do Ouro, the historic gold trail. Back in town, neoclassical Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Church overlooks a leafy square. In the adjoining Pontal neighborhood, the Forte Defensor Perpétuo, a hilltop citadel dating to the 1700s, features old cannons and panoramic views.
Weather and Events:
Beach season hits its peak Dec–Feb, at the height of the hot, rainy summer. Winter (May–Aug) is a little more cool and dry. Carnaval (dates vary, Feb/Mar) and the Catholic feast of Corpus Christi (dates vary, May/Jun) are both major events. FLIP (Jul) is one of South America's leading international literary festivals, with lively, child-focused Flipinha running alongside it.

Itacare Bahia Brazil
Itacaré is a town in the cocoa zone of the state of Bahia in Brazil, south of Salvador. It is located 70 km north of Ilhéus where the Rio de Contas, which comes from the Chapada Diamantina, meets the Atlantic Ocean. Itacaré has about 27,000 residents. Out of these, approximately 50% live in the rural interior. A mixture of races - Amerindian, black and white - can be seen in the features of the natives, called nação grapiúna, who Jorge Amado affectionately referred to as the captivating people of this land. was founded as a Portuguese colonial settlement, originally called São Jorge dos Ilhéus, in 1532. The town was a notorious hangout for Dutch and Portuguese pirates during the early colonial period and later became a hub for the cocoa planting and a port for whalers. It was officially given city status in 1881.
After a massive blight of Vassoura de Bruxa (Witch's broom) devastated the region's cocoa crops in the 1980s, Itacaré has depended mostly upon tourism. It is a popular destination for surfers, hikers and ecotourists. The town has a series of beautiful small cove type beaches and other picturesque beaches further along the coast. Itacaré is on the edge of a national park, one of the last large expanses of Atlantic rain forest left in Brazil.
The change from sleepy agrarian town to tourist hotspot has not been an easy one, however. Locals recently won a hard-fought campaign to stop land owners who wanted to charge for access to the beaches.
Access to one of the most pristine beaches, Prainha, has been blocked by a hotel/condominium development called Sao Jose Eco Resort. Both Prainha and Sao Jose beaches are now accessible by foot, free of charge.
Despite development in the area, it remains a hub of Bahian culture. Many tourists visit Itacaré to take part in the local Capoeira circles and eat traditional Brazilian food. The town is flooded with revelers during New Year's and Carnival.
Itacaré has been mentioned as one of the worlds top 10 best small towns
