Discover Chillon Castle!
Known the world over, Chillon Castle dates back many, many years. It is considered one of the best-preserved medieval, romantic fortresses in Europe. Surrounded by the enchanting backdrop of Lake Geneva and the Alps, it’s no coincidence that the castle came to stand in this strategic location. In fact, all roads lead to Chillon! Historically, an ancient road - the via francigena - used by merchants and pilgrims, passed in front of the castle, linking the north to the south via the Great St Bernard Pass. In the 19th century, famous English poet Lord Byron came here, following in the footsteps of the novel La Nouvelle Héloïse by Jean-Jacques Rousseau. He was so inspired that he wrote a poem which became internationally renowned, The Prisoner of Chillon. Even now, the fortress inspires artists and curious visitors. You can get here on foot, by bicycle, car, bus, train, boat, even on a paddle board. Situated in Switzerland, near Montreux, Chillon Castle has had three owners: the Dukes of Savoy from the 11th to 16th centuries, the Bernese Bailiffs from 1536 to 1789 and, finally, the State of Vaud.
The castle’s entire permanent exhibition is open to visitors year-round: from the cellar to the keep. Visitors can explore the castle along the sentry walks, into the towers, through the great halls and the Hall of Justice, from the Bernese bedroom into the chapel and even through the most popular destination with grown-ups and children alike; the latrines, or medieval toilets. The Chillon Castle Foundation organises one or two temporary exhibitions a year. The current exhibition “Mouthwatering - Eating and drinking in the Middle Ages” has been a roaring success and will be running until 28 April 2019. You can come on your own, as a pair, or in a group and opt for a costumed tour guide, an audio guide or even explore the fortress at your leisure. A unique visitor trail, as well as videos on touch screens will take you back in time to the era of the Dukes of Savoy. The most-visited historic monument in Switzerland also organises events, shows and concerts throughout the year.

Évekig mindhiába ostromoltuk Küküllővárat, most megkíséreljük bevenni. Amit a vaskos bástyák őriznek, az a sokat látott utazót is szíven üti. Sorozatunk újabb része az erdélyi főnemesség jóvátételi harcáról.

London: Tower of London, British Museum, boat ride, Changing the Guard shopping
After a preliminary bus tour, we visit the Tower of London, the city’s premier attraction. This huge castle on the Thames is the oldest building in London, dating back to 1078 when William the Conqueror began construction. Then our ride along the Thames shows us city sights from the water in a large tour boat, sitting up top.
Next day visiting the British Museum at 5:01 , one of the oldest museums in the world, opened in 1759. The ancient Greek and Egyptian collections are the main treasures, especially the Elgin Marble statues from the Parthenon in Athens and the vast number of mummies, colossal statues and jewelry from the ancient civilization of the Nile.
We end at the colorful Changing the Guard ceremony. The pomp and circumstance of this ritual is great fun, with the redcoat soldiers in their tall black hats parading to the bouncy rhythm of a marching brass band. The small squad of soldiers and a marching band will walk past you quickly, so have your camera ready for the shot with a nice palace backdrop. You can also catch the impressive mounted guards riding along The Mall and at Whitehall, after a pleasant stroll through St James Park.
