Gateway Arch - Elevator to the Top - View - St. Louis
Riding the tramway to the top of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. The tram is a sort of custom-made elevator/tram. The Arch was the result of a design competition in which famous architect Eero Saarinen won. The landscape was designed by landscape architect Dan Kylie, who is revered in the field of landscape architecture. During the filming of this, the ride up took approximately 5 minutes. There were ~30 mph winds, so the arch was definitely swaying. The cost to ride the tram to the top was $ 10. Well worth it.

Cliff Cave County Park Upper 1 mile Mountain Bike and Hiking Trail Overlook Loop
Fun ride that has some very technical and I would say dangerous parts if you don't approach correctly. I had a little accident myself which you will see. Been a long time since I've gone mountain biking on dirt trails like this. This video is GoPro footage I took of the trail which starts near the Overlook and goes down and under the bridge then back up to the Overlook.
Per Great Rivers Greenway website: Greatriversgreenway.org
Cliff Cave Park in the Mississippi Greenway offers stunning views of the Mississippi atop rocky bluffs that tower 170 feet over the river. It lies within one of the most naturally diverse plant and animal communities in the region, offering rocky, droughty hillsides as well as woodlands and wetlands.
This unique park within the greenway gets its name from the cave tucked in the bluffs of south St. Louis County. There is tremendous folklore surrounding the area, including stories from its past as a riverside tavern during the early exploration days of Missouri, a hideout for horse thieves as well a summer camping area for native Americans. It is known for its Karst topography – a region where the bedrock has been dissolved or collapsed, leading to caves or sinkholes.
The park offers hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails as well as picnic areas and shelters. You can enjoy both sun and shade as you explore trails in this section of the greenway. Click here for more information about the River Bluff and Spring Valley trails in Cliff Cave Park.
This area attracts hundreds of migratory birds in the spring and fall. In the summer, you can see Great Blue Herons and Egrets. Some bottomland woodlands and wetlands can be seen from the greenway.
Per Greatriversgreenway.org
“Mississippi Greenway: Cliff Cave County Park features a seven mile (paved) route along the Mississippi River and up the 170 foot bluff to a scenic overlook. There is also a connection to Telegraph road for people walking and biking. This segment of greenway lies entirely within Cliff Cave Park–named for the cave tucked in the bluffs of south St. Louis County. The park offers hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails as well as picnic areas and shelters.
Future Connections
Mississippi Greenway to River des Peres Greenway:
Construction to extend the Mississippi Greenway from its current endpoint on the River City Casino Property and connect with the River des Peres Greenway is temporarily on hold. The extension of the River des Peres Greenway between Alabama and Broadway is largely complete, but the remainder of the paved route will not be constructed until Metropolitan Sewer District completes repairs and sewer line improvements in this area. We are working with them to coordinate construction so we only build the greenway one time. Stay tuned for additional updates on the timeline for this project!

Coal Trains of Kirkwood Hill 2014
A short look at the various eastbound coal trains I've captured climbing UP's Kirkwood hill this year. There are few vantage points on this hill that aren't obstructed with chainlink fencing, limiting the variety of locations. I guess I'm not the only one who's noticed as someone cut a hole in the fence on the Barretts Station Rd overpass by the museum. Anyway, enjoy, and remember, Always use a tripod if you're going to post videos online.
