The City Park Hannover (city hall garden) in Hannover is just south of Hanover Congress Center in the district Zoo . It is bounded by Clausewitzstraße in the east and Kleefelder Straße in the south. Long before the construction of the Stadthalle, the Kleine Bult area was used by the Hannoversche Rennverein as a racetrack for public horse races in front of the railway line to Braunschweig starting in 1868 .
Only shortly before the First World War, the area in the years 1913 and 1914 under the name City Hall garden like a health establishment after plans of the garden director Hermann Kube designed and with the town hall architect Paul Bonatz and Friedrich Eugen Scholer tuned. In June 1914, the town hall and the newly created garden with a long water basin and a light fountain were inaugurated with a music festival.
In 1933, the site was used for the Annual Show of German Gardening Culture. During the Second World War , the city hall burned after the air raids on Hanover , the park was destroyed and used after the war first as a garden land. From April 21 to October 31, 1951, the first Federal Garden Show took place on the city hall grounds. The entire exhibition area was about 21 hectares in size and thus much smaller than that of Bundesgartenschauen later years. In 1951, around 1.6 million visitors were counted in Hanover.
The present complex largely corresponds to the former appearance and is a listed building . Staudenbeete and rhododendrons and the rose garden with about 140 varieties have been preserved. In 1963/64, according to plans by Erwin Laage, the large water basin was renovated, the fountain garden created and the terraces redesigned. In 1974, a hotel tower was built in the entrance area of the city park, which in 1980 was combined with a town hall and exhibition buildings to form the Hannover Congress Centrum .
A special attraction is the 400 square meter Japanese garden with tea house , a present from the Japanese metropolis , which was created in 1996 as part of the city partnership between Hannover and Hiroshima . The city park was until 2014 the venue of the annual summer bivouac , a garden festival of the 1st Panzer Division .

Hierna lopen we naar de Marktplatz met het oude Rathaus. Deze is rond 1330 tot 1369 gebouwd. Het gebouw is diverse malen zwaar beschadigd geweest. Door stadsbranden en voor het laatst in de tweede wereldoorlog. Via de Dom schatzkammer lopen we naar het Dom vorhof en bezoeken de Dom zelf die prachtig is gerestaureerd. Het centrale achthoekige gedeelte, dat thans als het schip van de kerk fungeert, werd tussen 796 en 804 gebouwd naar Byzantijnse voorbeelden. De kerk werd ingewijd in 804 tijdens Driekoningen. Karel de Grote werd hier in 814 begraven. Tijdens een aanval van de Vikingen in 881 werd de kapel zwaar beschadigd. In 983 werd de kerk weer gerestaureerd. Nadat de paus Karel de Grote, op voorspraak van Frederik Barbarossa, in 1165 heilig verklaard had, kwam een stroom van pelgrims naar de kerk op gang. Hierom werd in 1355 een gotische koorhal gebouwd en een tweedelige Capella vitrea (glazen kapel). Deze werd ingewijd op de 600ste sterfdag van Karel. De koepel, een aantal kapellen en de toren werden op latere tijdstippen toegevoegd. Otto I was de eerste van dertig koningen die in deze dom werden gekroond.
In 1881 werd de kerk gerestaureerd, waarbij het in de barokke periode aangebrachte stucwerk werd verwijderd. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog bleef de Dom van Aken als een van de weinige bekende Duitse historische gebouwen grotendeels onbeschadigd. Er sneuvelden alleen enkele glas-in-loodramen. De kerk werd in 1978 als eerste Duitse monument op de Werelderfgoedlijst van de UNESCO geplaatst. Een uniek element in het interieur van de Akense domkerk is de karolingische Paltskapel met de gietijzeren koorhekken, die tot de belangrijkste werkstukken uit de 8e-9e-eeuwse Akense werkplaatsen gerekend worden.
De Barbarossaluchter is een 12-eeuwse kroonluchter, een geschenk van Frederik Barbarossa. Het Marienschrein en het Karlschrein zijn twee reliekschrijnen uit de late 12e, vroege 13e eeuw, die tot de topstukken van Maaslandse edelsmeedkunst behoren. De belangrijkste relikwieën van de kerk worden bewaard in het Mariaschrijn. Hierin bevinden zich volgens de traditie de windselen en de lendendoek van Jezus Christus, de tuniek van Maria en de onthoofdingsdoek van Johannes de Doper.
In de kerk bevindt zich het graf van Otto III.
