Yamato no Samurai-part 1!
While visiting the Kiyomizu-yaki Danchi Pottery Festival in Danchi-cho, Yamashina, Kyoto, A wild troop of samurai warriors and their female counter parts performed a lively show. They where wielding their katana's to powerful flute music and displayed a truly wonderful show. You might think woman where not skilled in the katana, but these sure where. During this bygone era many women of the samurai class were trained in wielding a polearm called a naginata or a special knife called the kaiken in an art called tantojutsu (lit. the skill of the knife), which they could use to protect their household, family, and honour if the need arose. Sure a lot of fun to see them dressed in their samurai outfit and the sound of metal hitting metal.

Oku-no-Oku is a doburoku, the unrefined sake, and tastes thick and rich. It is made by Motai-Kobo, originally a Tofu maker which is located in the most upper area of the Kurisu River in Yamato district in Gujo city. The location of the store is of great advantage to make the tasty Oku-no-Oku to them because of its climate of the valley.
The coldest time in winter is the best season to make doburoku. One of carefully selected ingredients is their homemade rice. The grain of their rice is smaller than ordinary one, and contains rich taste. Another one is the groundwater from the Motai-Eboshi, a 1,300-meter mountain.
This is a great place to go and see what Japanese Satoyama culture is.

Japan Travel: Kashihara Shrine one of most popular Nara shrines, Nara17
Japan Travel: Kashihara Shrine one of most popular Nara shrines, Nara17
Kashihara Shrine was established in 1889 to enshrine Emperor Jimmu, Japan's first emperor. It is believed that Jimmu ascended the throne at the spot where the shrine now stands. Despite the fact that it was constructed relatively recently, Kashihara Shrine is an important and very popular shrine. It is situated in a preserved forest sanctuary at the foot of Mount Unebi, one of the three Yamato mountains.
The shrine grounds are extensive which contain pleasant paths leading through the forest that surrounds the buildings. Emperor Meiji donated two buildings from the Kyoto Imperial Palace to the shrine at the time of construction. One of the two building is today used as the shrine's main hall (honden), which can be viewed from the prayer hall (haiden) from some distance away.
Hours: 6:30 to 17:00 (It varies depending on season.)
Closed: Opened all year round.
Admission: Free
Access information
Kashihara Shrine can be reached in a couple of minutes by rental bicycle or ten minutes by foot from Kashiharajingu-mae Station.
