Yap State is one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia . The other states are Kosrae State, Pohnpei State, and Chuuk State. It administers both the Yap Islands and the island of Satawal, as well as fourteen atolls reaching to the east and south for some 800 km , namely Eauripik, Elato, Fais, Faraulep, Gaferut, Ifalik, Lamotrek, Ngulu, Olimarao, Piagailoe , Pikelot, Sorol, Ulithi, and Woleai.

The Micronesian island of Yap is known for its stone money, known as Rai, or Fei: large doughnut-shaped, carved disks of calcite, up to 4 m in diameter . The smallest can be as little as 3.5 centimetres in diameter.Rai, or stone money , are more than 6,000 large, circular stone disks carved out of limestone formed from aragonite and calcite crystals. Rai stones were quarried on several of the Micronesian islands, mainly Palau, but briefly on Guam as well, and transported to Yap for use as money. They have been used in trade by the Yapese as a form of currency. The monetary system of Yap relies on an oral history of ownership. FSM - Yap -- Glimpses of Sorol atoll

About 26 people lived here years ago ... now this island is deserted and seldom visited. We enjoyed a week here filming nature : monitor lizards, birds nesting, coconut crabs and lush vegetation. We also explored some ship wrecks. This isolated outer-atoll is located in the central part of Yap State. Filmed in July 2012.

Die erste Januar-Woche 2018 verbrachten wir auf dem kleinen Atoll von Yap in Mikronesien. Wohnten und tauchten bei Bill Acker im Manta Ray Bay Resort - Yap Divers.

FSM - Pohnpei - Getaway Islands

If you like to get away from Kolonia and the mainland for a day or even a few days, you can go to some of the small outlying islands at the edge between Pohnpei lagoon and the vast ocean. The easiest way to experience outer-islands atmosphere and basic way of life. Just a short drive followed by a short boat trip from Kolonia. Contact the Pohnpei Visitors Bureau to get the contact info from the diffrent getaway islands managers. Filmed in April 2012.
