Xiangshan Park

Yongcheng is county-level city in Henan province, China, and is the easternmost county-level division of the province, bordering Anhui province on all sides except the northwest and due north. In 2014, Yongcheng was upgraded to a provincially directly administered city. It is the former site of Shiyuan , the capital of Han-era Liang. It includes the excavated mausoleum of the fabulously wealthy Liu Wu, prince of Liang, now a museum famed for its murals.

Shalu Monastery | china visitor

Shalu Monastery (Tibetan: ཞྭ་ལུ།, Wylie: zhwa lu) is small monastery 22 kilometres (14 mi) south of Shigatse in Tibet. Founded in 1040 by Chetsun Sherab Jungnay, for centuries it was renowned as a centre of scholarly learning and psychic training and its muralpaintings were considered to be the most ancient and beautiful in Tibet. Shalu was the first of the major monasteries to be built by noble families of the Tsangpa during Tibet's great revival of Buddhism, and was an important center of the Sakya tradition.

Shangqiu tour

This is a miniature tour from my perspective of Shangqiu China on one of the market streets.

China - Sandaoling, The Long Haul out of the Mine, December 2018

Sandaoling in China's Xinjiang Province is now the very last place in the world where steam locomotives can be seen working hard in an industrial environment.
The JS Class 2-8-2 locos have a long slow struggle to get their loaded trains of coal out of the opencast coal mine on their way to the unloading points.
We see two of the trains here fighting the gradient on the way to the summit at the exit of the mine area. This spectacle should be available to witness until 2020, according to local sources, and may well continue until 2022. Watch this space!

By achieving a 99% response rate to our employee opinion survey, we’ve been able to sponsor Phnom Penh resident, Yongcheng Sreng, to undergo tour guide training and build a new future for himself and his family. We recently caught up with Sreng to find out what this opportunity meant to him.
