Bran Castle - Dracula's Castle - Braşov Transylvania - Romania
Bran Castle (German: Törzburg; Hungarian: Törcsvár), situated near Bran and in the immediate vicinity of Braşov, is a national monument and landmark in Romania. The fortress is situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on DN73. Commonly known as Dracula's Castle (although it is one among several locations linked to the Dracula legend, including Poenari Castle and Hunyad Castle), it is marketed as the home of the titular character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. There is, however, no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations with Vlad III, voivode of Wallachia, the putative inspiration for Dracula.
The castle is now a museum open to tourists, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie. Tourists can see the interior individually or by a guided tour. At the bottom of the hill is a small open air museum park exhibiting traditional Romanian peasant structures (cottages, barns, etc.) from across the country.
The Teutonic Order began construction of a wooden fort known as Dietrichstein in the early 13th century. After the fort's destruction in 1242 by Mongols, King Sigismund of Hungary ordered the construction of a stone castle in 1377, while the settlement of Bran began to develop nearby. Positioned high atop a steep cliff, the castle guarded a strategic trade route between Transylvania and Wallachia. In 1498, Bran fell under the jurisdiction of Braşov.
After the Kingdom of Hungary was defeated by the Ottoman Empire, Bran became part of the Principality of Transylvania during the 16th century, and eventually passed to the Habsburg Monarchy of Austria. The commune became part of the Austrian Empire in 1804 and the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1866. It was added to the Kingdom of Romania following World War I.
Bran Castle is one of Romania's most popular visitor sites, made famous in modern times when Queen Marie restored it after receiving it from the residents of Braşov County in the 1920s. The castle is open to tourists, who can view the inside alone or as part of a guided tour. Outside the castle are examples of traditional Romanian farm houses and peasant homes.

Dracula's Original Castle in Virtual Reality - Bran, Transylvania, Romania
This is a Virtual Reality visitor's experience at the original castle of Dracula, a rather famous fictional character imagined by Abraham Bram Stoker, the Irish author, best known today for his 1897 Gothic novel.
Bran Castle is situated in Brașov county, in the historical province of Transylvania, Romania and although it was not the residence of Vlad The Impaler, the actual historical figure who inspired Stoker, it was the inspiration for the many movies that followed the legend.

View of the city of Brasov, Romania, from the top of Tampa Mountain
Brasov, between my past and its present:
Rasnov Fortress, Romania
The citadel was built around the year 1215 by the Teutonic Knights and it was mentioned for the first time in 1331. The citadel was conquered only once in its history, around the year 1600 by Gabriel Báthory.
There is a myth attached to Râşnov Fortress. During a particularly long siege of the fortress, the citizens of Râşnov were concerned about the lack of available fresh drinking water. Two Turkish soldiers, having been captured earlier, were put to the task of digging a well in the centre of the fortress. These two men were assured that they would be given their freedom once the well was completed. According to local legend, it took them 17 years to finish the well, but they were still killed afterwards. This famous well still sits in the centre of Râşnov Fortress, and is 143 metres deep.
THE BIGGEST CAVE IN ROMANIA?

Cetatea Râşnovului - Râșnov Fortress ✔
➤ ROM Cetatea Rasnov este un monument istoric important in Romania. Ete situat in Rasnov, judetul Brasov, in imediata apropiere a Brasovului.
Obligati sa stea decenii , oamenii Rasnovului si satele apropiate, au transformat fortificatia, in locuinta.

The only chance of survival for the inhabitants of the area, inclusively from Cristian and Ghimbav was the refuge inside the citadel. Compelled to stay there for decades, the people of Râșnov and the nearby villages turned the fortification into a dwelling.

Cetatea FAGARAS Fortress (Transylvania, Romania)
Enable ENGLISH subtitle ! - Activați subtitrarea în românește !
Fagaras Fortress is located in the town of Fagaras in Transylvania, in the central part of Romania. Built in 1310 on the site of a former 12th century wooden fortress, Fagaras was enlarged between the 15th and 17th centuries and was considered one of the strongest fortifications in Transylvania. The fortress was surrounded by a deep moat which could easily be filled with water. The fortress boasts three floors, five towers and four bastions. Fagaras Fortress functioned mainly as a residence for various princes and their families. Transylvanian Prince Gabriel Bethlen (1613-1629), strongly influenced by the Italian Renaissance, rebuilt the fortress, bestowing elegance and beauty to the construction. During the rule of Georg Rákóczi (1630-1649), the castle's fortifications were doubled and the moat was enlarged. Ráckózi had the bastions bridged and covered, the moat paved with stones, the bridge and the casemates repaired and a guardhouse built. The entry of Făgăraş Fortress in the property of the Habsburg Empire in 1696 and its transformation into a military garrison was the beginning of a period of decline. Serving military purposes, the castle and fortress of Făgăraş lost their former elegance and splendor. Between 1918 and 1948, the fortress was a Romanian army garrison. From 1918 to 1924, it served as a place of refuge for White Russians who fled the Bolsheviks. Also, after the fall of Poland in 1939, a large number of Poles found refuge in the fortress. Between 1948 and 1960, the fortress was transformed into a communist political prison until 1960 when it was turned into a museum. Fagaras Fortress houses the Museum of Fagaras Country having mixed profile (history, ethnography, art). It includes 20 collections, exhibition of Fagaras representing the evolution of civilization in a string of moments and significant events. Remember by the famous exhibit The Iron Maiden. In recent years, the fortress has been extensively restored, strengthened and equipped with museum inventory, essential being the restoring of the Great Hall of the Throne.
