new orleans architects | call us (504) 826-8004!
New Orleans Architects are based in a city steeped in rich history. However, in the recent past, the city has faced a series of adversities due to hurricane Katrina.
The city's coastline faced mass destruction resulting in the loss of countless lives and billions of dollars. This huge destruction was largely because of the loss of the sediment from Mississippi delta. There was no real or clear regulation throughout the gulf coast in regards to the oil and gas industry that share a coastline with New Orleans.
After Katrina was over, almost everything changed in terms of how structural buildings were put up and the way New Orleans architects would forever do their job.
After the devastating effects of hurricane Katrina, the main agenda was not restoring the coast or the halt coastal erosion, but rather the focus became on balancing the demands of settlements against the kind of investment that most people of New Orleans were willing to make. Whatever plans architects in New Orleans had, they had to be strategic and practical.
Since New Orleans is not like any other city, there are certain local specifics that most New Orleans architects have. These specific aspects are due to the fact that after Katrina, most of the settlements in New Orleans had to offer future protection that would allow home and business owners to have faith that their buildings could survive another major natural calamity.
The following are some of the aspects that define or differentiate local New Orleans architects.
-Architects in New Orleans have developed strategies that fit most settlements in New Orleans. The architectural design of most buildings in New Orleans has to be resilient in order to survive its complex geographical landscape. New Orleans architects have to account for instances that may require retreat, defense or flood resistance. These aspects are not only important because of the natural effects that hurricane Katrina caused, but also the negative man-made situations that occurred as a result of it.
-The architects in New Orleans have a wide range of specific community and place solutions. This is because the city itself requires an integrated urban development plan that takes into account the natural processes and dynamic changes that regularly occur in the city.
-Architectural information, strategies and plans arrived by New Orleans architects are influenced by context from various specialists working in different significant fields such as, engineering, science and design. Such individuals help to determine things such as water diversions that help to increase the deposition of any sediment for land-building.
-Architects in New Orleans are specially placed to prepare for natural calamities and mitigating their impacts. They look at the natural systems that have been in place for years providing significant protection for the city and try to find ways of restoring and strengthening these systems.
-New Orleans architects have the necessary expertise and experience to deal with the hurdles and red tape that come with building in New Orleans. Since Katrina, the government and building associations came up with tighter rules that would ensure that any kind of building project, private or public, meets the required standards.
The following are some of the aspects that define the architects of this city. It is not just any ordinary building area, especially after the devastating effects of hurricane Katrina.

IT'S ALL ABOUT MUSIC, FOOD, & WHOLESOME FAMILY FUN AT THE 20TH ANNUAL GRETNA HERITAGE FESTIVAL IN GRETNA, LOUISIANA.
THE 3-DAY EVENT PACKS PLENTY OF EXCITEMENT & DRAWS NEARLY 150,000 PEOPLE TO THE OTHERWISE SMALL, QUAINT CITY ON THE WEST BANK OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER.
THE FESTIVAL SPANS 25 BLOCKS & FEATURES 7 STAGES WITH PERFORMANCES BY LOCAL & INTERNATIONAL ACTS; A FOOD TENT SERVING UP DELICIOUS LOUISIANA FAVORITES; UNIQUE ARTS & CRAFTS; & RIDES & ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE KIDS.
Here in the city we are most excited about the Gretna Heritage Festival. It happens annually here the first weekend in October. It’s a wonderful Fall event. It's something everyone should experience here. It just doesn’t get any better then this in the City of Gretna.
LOCATED JUST 10 MINUTES FROM THE HEART OF NEW ORLEANS ACROSS THE CRESCENT CITY CONNECTION BRIDGE, GRETNA IS ONE OF AMERICA'S BEST PLACES TO LIVE, WORK, & RAISE A FAMILY.
FOUNDED IN 1836 BY GERMAN IMMIGRANTS, TODAY, THIS LOUISIANA JEWEL IS A DIVERSE COMMUNITY WITH NEARLY 18,000 RESIDENTS.
4 SQUARE MILES IN SIZE, GRETNA IS THE SEAT OF JEFFERSON PARISH – THE LARGEST PARISH IN THE STATE – & HOME TO THE 24TH JUDICIAL COURT DISTRICT.
Gretna's a charming little city located in the midst of a major metropolitan area. We offer wonderful views of downtown New Orleans from the banks of the mighty Mississippi. We have a variety of restaurants, safe neighborhoods, a rich culture, active arts & entertainment segment & we offer the finest public safety services through our police & fire departments.
GRETNA FEATURES OVER 1000 BUSINESSES WHICH ARE SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE CITY.
WHILE MOST ARE INDEPENDENT, FAMILY-OWNED OPERATIONS, SOME ARE NATIONALLY-RECOGNIZED – LIKE ZATARAIN'S, WHICH MOVED TO GRETNA IN 1963.
There are tremendous benefits to doing business in the City of Gretna from an infrastructure standpoint. You look at the proximity to world class ports, railroads, roadways & airport; you add that together with the tremendously qualified workforce, very educated. The proximity to the universities & you couple all of that with the great quality of life, the historical charm of this city with all of the modern amenities. It's easy to see why Gretna is a city of choice.
GRETNA IS CONTINUOUSLY EXPERIENCING AN INFLUX OF NEW BUSINESSES.
COMPANIES BENEFIT FROM THE CITY'S PERSONALIZED SERVICE THROUGH THE LICENSING & PERMITTING PROCESSES, & VALUE THE CONTINUOUS SUPPORT FROM LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
ONE EXCITING & MAJOR PROJECT UNDERWAY IN GRETNA IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A 50-MILLION DOLLAR HOTEL COMPLEX ON AN 11 ACRE TRACT OF LAND.
We're really excited to bring this transformative development anchored by 3 hotels to the City of Gretna. When we were looking for a place to do business we wanted a place with rich history & tradition with great access to the entire metro area. The city leadership of Gretna outstretched their arms to us & made it really easy to do busy. And we're excited about bringing this development to the City of Gretna.
BEYOND ITS GROWING BUSINESS COMMUNITY, GRETNA IS A SAFE, WELCOMING CITY TO LIVE.
People in our city have lived here for generations. And of course they do that because of the quality of life that we have here, that we're most proud of. That quality of life starts first & foremost with a quality police department. Chief Arthur Lawson & the Gretna Police officers, the men & women who work there are second to known in the country with response times of less then 1 minute.
THE CITY FEATURES HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATION, INCLUDING PRIVATE, PAROCHIAL, PUBLIC, & MAGNET SCHOOLS.
RICH IN HISTORY, GRETNA IS HOME TO THE DAVID CROCKET FIRE COMPANY – INCORPORATED IN 1844 & THE OLDEST CONTINUOUSLY ACTIVE VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY IN THE STATE TODAY.
THERE'S ALSO THE GRETNA FERRY HOUSE, KITTIE STREHLE HOUSE, & THE JEFFERSON MEMORIAL ARCH -- JUST A FEW OF THE CITY'S OTHER HISTORICAL LANDMARKS.
GRETNA HOSTS MANY PARKS, A WALKING TRAIL, & ONE OF THE TOP-RANKED BMX TRACKS IN THE NATION.
RESIDENTS & VISITORS ENJOY THE CITY'S WEEKLY FARMER'S MARKET, MONTHLY GRETNA ART WALK, & SEVERAL ANNUAL EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
Our city is rich in tradition & history, & although we are part of the New Orleans metropolitan area, we are a small, close-knit community that is attentive to the needs of our residents. We're a city offering something for everyone. With amazing energy. There's no doubt, we want you in Gretna.

Buying a home in New Orleans can be overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. The process can be pleasant and easy going when you call Jamie Mixon, realtor of the Mixon Group. She will be by your side during the entire home buying process, from start to finish.
To get the keys to your new home all that you have to do is follow these six easy steps, and don't worry, Jamie will be by your side the whole time:
1. Call the Mixon Team: Call to set up your meeting with the Mixon Team to review the market conditions in the area you want to buy, and to go over your list of wants and needs for your new home. This will help in finding a home that best suits your desires.
2. Secure Financing: You will want to get pre-approval for a loan so you know how much you can spend on your new home. The last thing you want to do is to fall in love with a house that you can't afford. This step will protect you from looking at homes that are out of your price range and having to deal with the heartache of falling in love with a house you can't afford.
3. Find Your Home: After you know how much you can spend on your new house, it is time to for the fun to begin! You will want to narrow your search to homes that meet your list of wants and needs. There is no sense in wasting time on homes that don't suit you. After all, you are going to live the house, you should be happy with the home you choose.
4. Make an Offer: When you are ready to make an offer, Jamie Mixon's experience can help you to negotiate the price and terms of your contract to ensure that you get the best deal possible! She's here to make sure that you get your new home for the best price there is!
5. Get Inspections: Contact inspectors to walk through your future home. You will want to make sure that you know what you are buying from top to bottom, inside and out. The inspectors will write a report of their findings so you know if you will need to renegotiate the terms of the contract, or if the home is in immaculate condition.
6. Closing: When the search is done, and the inspections are finished, and your offer and terms have been accepted, it is finally time to close on your new house. After signing the papers and getting the keys, it's time to move into the house you've worked so hard to get, and you can finally rest easy and call it home.
Whether you are looking for a starter home or your dream home there's no reason to wait until tomorrow to start the search, call Jamie at the Mixon Group today! You can find the Mixon Group on the web at
