The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) built its A-train commuter rail service in partnership with DART and the TRE. The DCTA leases the right-of-way for its 21 miles (34 km) commuter line from DART, and coordinates with DART to provide connecting service between the A-train and DART's Green Line. The DCTA also leased Budd diesel rail cars from the TRE for its initial service. Through its partnerships with DART and TRE, DCTA sells Regional fare passes which include access to DART and TRE service.

Texas Transportation Co
The Texas Transportation Company was a trolley powered freight line with 1.3 miles of track in San Antonio Texas, which served the Pearl and Lone Star Breweries. Pearl bought up Lone Star, leaving Pearl as the only customer. In 1999, Pabst bought Pearl and announced plans to close both the brewery and the rail line, which prompted a visit to Texas to catch the last days of this rare type of freight railroading. Our visit was a few weeks before the final run and we caught a trip to the interchange with plant execs wanting a ride before the end. They made another trip with an empty car, then went back to the plant to do some switching. The railroad ceased running in June, 2000 and the plant closed the following January, bringing an end to an era in Texas railroading. All of the rails and trolley line have since been removed, but motor #2 is plinthed near the plant site.

The City of Highland Village 50th Anniversary Gala - Highland Village Road Train Crossing History
The City of Highland Village 50th Anniversary Gala
It's hard to believe, but on February 14, 2013, Highland Village is turning 50! According to the book, A History and Heritage of Highland Village, Modern-day Highland Village morphed from a small, rural town into a suburban city seemingly overnight in the 1970's. The lifestyle here was based upon a distinct blend of rural Texans' aspirations and perspectives and the wishes of some wealthy Dallasites to 'get away from it all.' The desire was to become part of something related to the Dallas lifestyle but distinctly more relaxed and 'real' in the sense of seeking to enjoy nature and live closer to the land. These are recurring strains throughout the municipal history of the City of Highland Village, Texas. The founding residents of Highland Village fell in love with the area and, whether intentional or not, Highland Village was incorporated as an official city on Valentine's Day in 1963.
In honor of our 50th anniversary, we invite you to bring your loved one to our 50th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Celebrations Grand Ballroom in Highland Village for an evening of dinner, dancing, and video presentations on the history of Highland Village. Space is limited, so be sure to register by February 8 in person at The Robert & Lee DuVall Center or online at (additional convenience fee). For more information, please call 972-899-5131
Texas Fatal Fiery Plane Crash: Female Pilot Instructor Francesca Norris & student Killed 28July2019
Flight instructor Francesca Norris, 25 and her student Yu Qiu, 22 from china killed in fiery crash of their twin-engine Piper PA-34, the plane they were in caught fire on impact, went up and erupted in flames and burnt completely at a North Texas airport:
A North Texas flight instructor and her student died after a plane crash in the Cooke County town of Gainesville. The FAA says the Piper PA-34 twin-engine plane went down Sunday afternoon while trying to land at a small airport. Both the instructor and the student died in the crash. The instructor has been identified as 25-year-old Francesca Norris of North Richland Hills. The student pilot was 22-year-old Yu Qiu from China. Norris' family says she was living her dream by flying planes and teaching others to fly when she died on Sunday in a fiery crash about a quarter-mile north of where she was trying to land. Norris was a certified flight instructor at U.S. Aviation Academy in Denton. The plane went up in flames on impact. Qiu died on the scene. Norris was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas and pronounced dead Sunday night. In a statement, U.S. Aviation Academy states, All of our hearts are heavy...we are assisting the National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration and local authorities...we will also be conducting our own internal investigation. Norris' family declined to comment Monday and instead provided a picture. A family friend says Norris graduated towards the top of her class from Birdville High School in North Richland Hills, got a pre-med scholarship to Baylor and planned to go to medical school. But upon graduation from college, she chose to follow in her family's footsteps. Her father is a pilot for American Airlines. Her brother is also a pilot. The family friend says Norris got licensed quickly and loved being a flight instructor, saying she was passionate, bright and focused and will be missed. It's unclear who was flying the aircraft and what caused it to go down. The NTSB is the lead on the investigation.

What is the Best Commuter Rail in the United States?
Many cities in the United States have some sort of train network; whether small or big. What is your favorite passenger railroad and why? (Is it because it carries a lot of people? It is an old system? The stations are really beautiful etc.) Comment below.
-
Wikipedia was used to establish ridership, which is distinguished as daily - ( my personal preference) or yearly (if daily was not provided). Additionally, the system length in miles along with the number of stations, the owner and the operator of the system, along with any additional information is provided. Please note that ridership can vary by year and the years used for ridership are not consistent for this video.
-
In some commuter rail systems, the system operates regionally across multiple cities, states, and jurisdictions; however, the biggest city was identified that the commuter rail serves and highlighted in this video.
AMTRAK is also excluded since it is a national rail, while Brightline is private.
I do apologize for somehow leaving out Minneapolis:
Northstar: Daily Ridership: 2700; 7 Stations; Owner is BNSF and Metropolitan Council; System Length: 40 miles.
-
So what is your most favorite system and why? Do you agree with the assumptions made by this video?
