Abbey falls of Madikeri tourism also known as Abbi waterfalls of Coorg tourism or Kodagu Karnataka Tourism. Abbey Falls or Abbi Falls is a waterfall situated near Madikeri town. Abbey waterfall is located in Kodagu about 8kms from Madikeri. Water from Kootu Holey dam near the town flows into the falls. Abbey means falls in Kannda. Abbi in coorgie means a waterfall. The falls is inside a coffee plantation. Abbey Falls is a breathtaking waterfall where the Kaveri river cascades down a rockface. A hanging bridge is built across the gorge here offering a good view of the falls. The British called it the Jessie waterfalls in memory of Jessie the daughter of Madikeri’s first captain.
Madikeri is a hill station town in Madikeri taluk in Karnataka state, India. Also known as Mercara, it is the headquarters of the district of Kodagu (also called Coorg). It is also known as the Scotland of India. Madikeri was formerly known as Muddu raja keri. Muddurajakeri which means Mudduraja's town, was named after the prominent Haleri king, Mudduraja who ruled Kodagu from 1633 to 1687. According to Puranas, Kodava is the redefined name of Krodhadesa meaning Land of Anger, said to have been inhabited by the Kodava tribe. Some historians believe that it is named after the River Cauvery. Coorg was under the Gangas rule during 9th and 10th centuries and Cholas in the 11th century followed by Hoysalas. Later Coorg was relatively independent under Haleri Rajas until British occupied the region in 1834. Coorg was a separate state before its merger with Karnataka in the year 1956. The nearest cities are Mangaluru to the west, and Mysuru to the east. Madikeri lies on the Karnataka State Highway 88 that runs from Mangaluru to Mysuru. It is 120 km from Mysuru , 136 km from Mangaluru, 265 km from Bengaluru, the state capital of Karnataka, 322 km from Coimbatore & 362 km from Kochi.

One of the most popular tourist spots in Coorg, Abbey Falls is located 7 km from Madikeri. The River Kaveri makes a descent here from a height of about 21 m from sea level, providing a splendid sight. The cascading crystal clear water in the midst of the emerald flora that surround the fall, is something you will see only in Coorg. The fall is a perfect picnic spot with unexplored walking trails around the area. Recently, a hanging bridge has been laid across the gorge adding to the beauty of the place. The explorer in you will be really delighted to know about the unexplored and untrodden area around the falls. To reach the falls, one has to take a 500 m downhill walk from the end of the road. The area around this fall is rich with coffee bushes and wild vines and creepers. The best time to visit Abbey Falls is during the monsoons.

Most of the waterfalls are good in monsoon and Abbey Fall is one of those. Located close to the Madikeri city, Abbey Falls is wide waterfall. I visited during monsoon and somehow the water was little dirtier, though the force of the fall was good.

Abbi falls is one of the beautiful waterfalls near Madikeri, Coorg. It is also spelled as Abbey Falls. Abbi means Falls in Kodava language. The distance between Madikeri City in Coorg and Abbey falls is around 8 KM.
Parking facility is available near Abbi waterfalls. However, you need to walk for 10 mins to reach Abbey falls from Parking area. There is a hanging bridge in front of Waterfalls. But due to 2018 heavy rain and landslide, Bridge is damaged.
Overall Abbi Falls/Abbey Falls in Coorg is must watch place especially during Monsoon time.

Abbey Falls, also known as Abbi Falls, is located around 10 kilometres away from the town of Madikeri and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in and around Coorg. The water cascade coming down from the cliff from a height of 70 feet provides a spectacular scene to behold. Nestled within the lush greenery which is typical to the sceneries of Western Ghats, the waterfalls attract hundreds and thousands of people throughout the year - especially nature lovers and photographers. The waterfall is located between private coffee plantations with stocky coffee bushes and spice estates with trees entwined with pepper vines. There is an over-bridge that hangs opposite of the falls, from where the most picturesque scene of white foams gushing down the ridge can be seen, captured and remembered. The flow of the falls leaves a significant amount of water spray on those who stand on the bridge for some time.
