Day 1| BEST TREK Around KATHMANDU | Awesome Day of EPIC ft Wanderlust Himalaya Adventures
Trekking in Nepal. I wanted to squeeze in a short trek around Kathmandu. I did the Kopasi- Balthali- Namobuddha-Dhulikhel trek with Wanderlust Himalaya Adventures. It’s one of the best hikes near Kathmandu and it was such an awesome trekking day in Nepal. It is a popular two day trek around Kathmandu Valley. Our start is located 2 hours east of downtown Kathmandu. Our first day's goal ends in Dhulikhel.
I did a shout out to my good friend Nabaraj, who runs his own trekking and tour company. He gave me a customized tour so I could film the valley and village life- I love filming human stories. I wanted epic scenery but also wanted to see village culture and lifestyles. But this trek surpassed my wildest expectations and you’ll see why.
Trivia: initially Nabaraj sold me my very first trekking tour a decade ago when he was just 19 years old and worked for another company. I’m honored to be taking one of his Kathmandu trekking tours! My first trek was Bhaktapur to Nagarkot, which is another top trek around Kathmandu as well.

Everest Base Camp Trek: The Logistics
Hiking gear
Since Jeff and I were traveling and spent a month in Bali before our Everest basecamp trek, we were wildly unprepared for the trek. We did have base layers and some long sleeves, but not much else! However, it is good to know that you can find everything you need in Katmandu, Lukla or even higher, up to Namche Bazaar at 3,400m - however, it does get a little more expensive as you go up, of course.
We strongly recommend to rent sleeping bags and down jackets - we rented both of those for about $2.50 per day per person at the Kala Pattar shop in Thamel, Katmandu. We also bought the rest of our hiking gear, including hiking backpacks, hiking boots, gloves, hats, neck warmers, fleece-doubled hiking pants and warm socks at the same shop - the more you buy, the more you can haggle!
Aside from finding a good backpack to carry everything on your back, it is an absolute must that you also have an easy access bag, like a bumbag, for all those things you’ll be needing easy access to like your phone, chapstick, tissues, money, permits, snacks, camera, etc. We highlight recommend Eastpak products, and neither of us travel anywhere without their bumbags around our necks.
Altitude
It is important to inform yourself and your group members about the effects of altitude and AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Early symptoms from 2,500m can include a strong headache, and you need to stop climbing. Start descending immediately if you experience dizziness, shortness of breath while resting, nausea or exhaustion in addition to the headache. AMS can lead to HAPE (high altitude pulmonary oedema) or HACE (high altitude cerebral oedema), which are both life threatening, but usually only occur at very high altitude. Make sure to be aware and to follow the recommendations to avoid AMS, and don’t climb more than 500 meters a day above 3,000 meters. If you are feeling unwell, you can inform the lodge owners, they are very helpful and most can organize a helicopter rescue if needed.
Diamox should not be taken by pregnant women or anyone with liver or kidney issues.
Everest Base Camp Trek: The Full Itinerary
Day 1 - Katmandu (4,593ft / 1,400m) - Lukla (9,334ft / 2,845m) to Phakding (8,563ft / 2,610m) to Monjo (9,301ft / 2,835m)
Trekking time: 3 hours from Lukla to Phakding + 3 hours from Phakding to Monjo. Total 6 hours
The trek to Everest base camp starts with a relatively nerve wracking flight, in the smallest plane we’ve ever taken - only 7 seats, and one flight attendant! You will be offered mints and cotton for your ears as the plane takes off from Katmandu and zigzags in between mountains to approach Tenzing–Hillary Airport in Lukla.
Tip: Make sure to seat on the plane’s left side for the best views of the Himalayas!
You will see Lukla’s famous short landing strip with its 11.7% gradient appear in front of you. While it can make you nervous, embrace the feeling of landing on the 500m strip, it will definitely be a good story to tell!
Once you get out of the plane, you will find yourself in the second smallest airport in the world. From there, grab your bag, and let’s head on the trek!
You should normally arrive early morning, before 8.30am, so you can be in Phakding for lunch.
Start walking on the path and enjoy the first 2 hours going downhill - how easy, you will think. Beware, as you will have to go up during the last 2 hours of the trek!
Stop in Phakding for lunch halfway, and continue another 3 hours of uphill hiking to Monjo, through beautiful sceneries with prayer wheels and suspended bridges where you can spend your first night.

Today's the day that we sadly fly out of Lukla and head back to Kathmandu concluding the trek with a dinner. We enjoyed a well-earned drink (or two) and some delicious food! Unfortunately, this is when we say farewell to Chopel, one of our guides, and begin to miss him dearly. You really made the trek a fantastic one, going above and beyond!

Pikey Peak Trek – Wonderful trekking experience to the best vantage point of Everest
Many Trekkers call it as best point to witness Everest. Even Sir Edmund Hillary claimed it as his favorite spot to enjoy Everest.
The name Pikey is derived from local Sherpa Clan deity which represents the sky over the nature.
Pikey Peak Trek is newly introduced trekking route in Khumbu region which allows us to enjoy up-close view of Everest and lower Khumbu region along with magical landscapes. The view of sunrise and sunset over the giant peaks is so magical that it will become your lifetime memory. Apart from majestic Himalayan views, you will get opportunity to discover unique geography and the life it supports. The unique Sherpa Culture and their hospitality is very intriguing. Being a newly discovered trekking route, it offers an off-beat and solitary trekking experience.
The Pikey Peak trail route is covered with lush forests of rhododendron, oak and pine. You will walk through numerous villages perched on ridge tops surrounded by terraced fields.
From Pikey peak, you will get the grand view of mountain peaks – Dhaulagiri, Everest, Makalu and Kanchenjunga to the far west. The tea house accommodation along the trekking route is simple and offers very basic facilities.

LANGTANG VALLEY TREK IN JANUARY 2020 (winter) — The First Trek of a 71-year-old Man (3840m)
I took my 71-year-old father to Nepal on an impromptu visit in the winter and he trekked for the first time in his life! On the first day, he walked 8 hours and 21500 steps and the following day 7 hours 19000 steps! He has already given up in the beginning and was shocked to see such high mountains, but as I continued to give him mental support, with the unceasing encouragement from my guide, he pushed through to 3840m asl, and his perspective changes along the journey.
He ascended the mountains a tired, grumpy old man but descended a confident, happy lad — feeling 10 years younger with greater endurance, stronger legs and overall health! ????????????????????????
A great shout out to Resham Neupane, a compassionate, intelligent and caring guide who is above and beyond his service of duty, taking care of my father along the trek and our needs more than we could ever ask for. Resham is not only outstanding in leadership. but what makes a true leader is one with a servant's heart and he clearly demonstrated humility and empathy by never leaving my father's side on the trek no matter how slow he walks, and later helped to soak his tired feet in hot water to reduce inflammation after a 8-hour trek in a stone cold freezing night. You're the best!! Thank you and hope to see you again soon!! ????????

Nepal Trip Part 14 - Last days in Kathmandu
This video is of my two last days in Kathmandu.
We start the second last morning off by going to the Garden of Dreams in the middle of Kathmandu which was beautiful and hard to believe it's there. After that, we had lunch at a pizza bar called Fire and Ice which was amazing! Then Cheryl & I wanted to find the place where we had lunch before so we could enjoy a drink. We eventually found it but they didn't have coke and was surprised when I ordered a bourbon & coke. It took the guy ages to get some coke and make my drink but I got it eventually. We then all went out for our last dinner together in Kathmandu.
My last day in Kathmandu consisted of an awesome morning coffee, an unsuccessful laundry mission, a new tattoo, movies and a trip to the airport to catch a plane to Hong Kong.
I absolutely loved Kathmandu and would go back in a heartbeat!
Another massive thank you to Keep Walking Nepal and Ang for going above and beyond and spoiling us!

Nepal - Annapurna trek options
Annapurna Trek Options
In this video we'll outline the main trekking options in the Annapurna region.
First, you'll need to know where Annapurna is located.
The Annapurna peaks -- and there are at least 5 peaks carrying the name Annapurna -- are located in the Annapurna Sanctuary Area just north of Pokhara.
There are a host of 7 and 8 thousand meter peaks in the sanctuary. Various trekking options can get you close to some or all of them.
Just about all Annapurna treks start from Pokhara, located west of Kathmandu and reached by 35 minute flight or one day road trip from Kathmandu.
There are three main treks conducted in and around the Annapurna region.
• Short treks into the high foothills that provide spectacular views of the snow-capped mountains.
• Treks into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary to the Annapurna Base Camp area.
• Much longer treks that complete a circuit loop right around the Annapurna mountain massif.
We'll start with a look at the short treks designed to provide fantastic views of the mountains with just a few days trekking.
The peaks of the Annapurna massif are only about 40 km north of Pokhara.
So a short drive and just a day or two walking will get you into the high foothills where the mountain scenery is spectacular.
The most common mountain scenery short-trek is to the village or Ghorepani and the Poon Hill lookout just above the village. It is a fantastic experience.
Most people aim to experience sunrise over the Annapurna mountains from the 3,200m vantage point of Poon Hill.
Reaching Ghorepani is usually a 2 day walk from the entrance to the Sanctuary Area.
Many people then return to Pokhara via an easy loop through other villages and the main valley into the sanctuary. Others just make this the first leg of a longer trek to Annapurna base Camp.
But there are also other panoramic short trek and accommodation options throughout the foothills -- so contact us at Langtang Ri Trekking if you would like to know more.
The most common trekking destination in the sanctuary is to the Annapurna Base Camp -- the starting point for many climbing expeditions.
Depending upon the route this can be about a 7 to 10 or 14 days trek.
There are villages and accommodation options all along the trekking routes. The scenery is spectacular. The altitude not too high, less than 4,000m throughout. And the walking trails are well made and relatively easy walking.
The third trekking option is to circumnavigate the entire Annapurna massif -- this is the Annapurna Circuit Trek.
There are a variety of different shorter and longer versions of this trek -- some which involve terminating the trek north of Annapurna, at Jomson, and returning to Pokhara by air. Others branch off into remote valleys and high passes and others continue on foot all the way to the Sanctuary Area gate north of Pokhara. So some treks can be a short as 12 days and other 21 days or longer.
While the main appeal of this trek is its spectacular scenery and the experience of visiting remote villages and their people, another attraction is its suitability for trekking right through the mi-summer monsoon period. Because the treks goes north of the mountain peaks the treks is in the mountain rain-shadow and so can be comfortable completed any time other than the depths of mid-winter.
So these are just the three main trekking routes in the Annapurna Sanctuary Area. Plus there are lot more valleys, villages, lakes, high passes and festivals that can be included in a customised trek itinerary.
If you need help to plan your trek please contact Pamfa -- she has the answers to all your questions. We hope to see you soon at Langtang Ri Trekking and Expedition.

Welcome to Nepal! Nepal is a beautiful landlocked country. Though it is small, the country has variations in landscapes from high, rocky Himalayan terrain, to green lustrous hills and flat, fertile Terai plains. The rich culture, scenic beauty, and heartwarming hospitality make Nepal a must-visit country. There are many ways one can opt to explore Nepal. However, to explore the Himalayan region, the best option is trekking. The Himalayan country of Nepal lies in Southern Asia. To the north is the autonomous region of Tibet, in the People’s Republic of China, and to the south is India. Roughly the shape of a rectangle, Nepal has a length of 885 km and a width ranging from 145 km to 241 km. Nepal also contains the largest mountain range on earth, the Himalayan Mountains. This creates an elevation profile that is one of the most extreme in the world. It ranges from a mere 70 meters above sea level to the highest point on earth, Mt. Everest at 8,848 meters. Because of this huge disparity in elevation all within a distance of 150 km, Nepal contains enormous climatic variations from sub-tropical to alpine. It is popularly known in the world for its incredible diversity of ecosystems. The high peaks of the Himalayas in the north quickly drops down to thick tropical jungles teeming with wildlife in the south on the way to the Ganges floodplain. Between the two extremes are glittering glaciers, thundering rivers, forested hills and terraced slopes. Besides an incredibly rich and diverse ecology, Nepal also has amazing cultural traditions. You can wonder at the exquisite craftsmanship and artistic ingenuity of the people then and now as you view the temples and historical palaces full of architectural value. Part of the religious and cultural fabric of Nepal is their numerous national and religious festivals. These festivals and ceremonies have been celebrated since time and can be seen at all times of the year. Nepal is also famously known for the warm hospitality given to every guest. For all who come to this mysterious realm awaiting you is an atmosphere of welcome and warmth. Nepal is a breathtaking and enchanting land of myths and legends to come, see, and experience.
