The DANGEROUS Precipice Trail Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor Maine
As we continue to Exit The Freeway we found ourselves LOVING all that Maine had to offer! We even stayed there an extra 2 days longer than we were planning! And if you are adventure seekers like us...this is the most dangerous trail in Acadia National Park! It offers absolutely breath taking views of Frenchman Bay and the Atlantic Ocean! Even though it is categorized as a Non-technical hike, it is actually considered by locals as more of a climb than a trail. It is a 1.5 mile climb up Champlain Mountain with an elevation gain of about 1072 feet. If you have a fear of heights, or experience vertigo, this trail is NOT for you! This trail is more of a free climb with no ropes or harnesses. You traverse the trail using metal rungs and ladders that are bolted into the rock face. During the summer, the trail can get very busy, however, when we visited it in late September, we only ran into one other couple and had the trail to ourselves. If hiking this trail, leave your poles behind...you won't need them.
Also, VERY IMPORTANT: This trail is usually closed between March 15 and August 15 for peregrine falcon nesting so if you plan on being there during this time...don't plan on visiting this trail.

Mountain Biking the Carriage Roads in Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor, Maine
Today we are visiting the stunning Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. Much to my chagrin there is no mountain biking on the island, but of course that wasn’t enough to stop me from finding an excuse to ride. Way back in the early 20th century a vast network of crushed stone roads were built throughout Acadia National Park for the use of hikers, horse riders, and most importantly, bikers. No cars allowed thank you very much. These trails, commonly referred to as the “Carriage Roads” are in my option one of the coolest ways to experience the park, soak in its beautiful features all while pedaling your little heart out.
But I wasn’t alone for this adventure. My wife and our good friends Jon, Judy, and their daughter all saddled up for our 20 mile, five and a half hour tour of the Carriage Roads.
Along the way we stopped at a handful of the beautiful, granite bridges built throughout the carriage roads. Each one was individually designed with the intent to both blend into the background and be a work of art to admire all on their own.
Once you are done checking out the bridges be sure to plan ahead so you can grab lunch at the Jordan Pond House. This restaurant is right inside the park, has a sweet name, and the expectedly fantastic views are matched by delicious food and drink.
The week we spend exploring the park is something I look forward to doing every year. I am so glad that this year I was able to share our biking adventure with you. If you want to see more videos like this one click subscribe and drop me a note below what you thought of Acadia National Park.
Thank you so much for watching. Now it’s your turn, get out there and ride.

Acadia National Park in 4K - Town of Bar Harbor, Maine!
Bar Harbor, Maine, originally incorporated as Eden on February 23, 1796, has a world renowned ambiance that blends seashore community, Down East character, and the famous Maine Lobster. Part of Hancock County, it is the best known town on Mount Desert Island with an approximate population of 5,235 (per year 2010 census) and 28,800 scenic acres. Included within the municipality are the villages of Hulls Cove, Salisbury Cove, and Town Hill, as is a large portion of Acadia National Park. Because of this, people often refer to it all as being part of the same concept and place, as well as the same state of mind.
Bar Harbor sits in a particular coastal part of the State referred to as “Down East” Maine. This term has a long history dating back over two hundred years when large schooners, filled with goods on their way back to England or elsewhere in Europe, had to sail down wind to the east from the larger population centers like Boston, Philadelphia, and New York - hence, Down East. While visiting, you will often hear the tell-tail sound of a “Mainer” speaking with that special Down East accent where the “r” sound is being dropped. Bar Harbor is pronounced like “Bah-Hah-Bah” and lobster sounds like “lob-stuh!” (You may want to begin practicing now.)

Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park (Bar Harbor, Maine)
Please check out my photos on Flickr:
_______________________________________________________
Thunder Hole is the place in Acadia National Park to experience the thunder of the sea against the rocky shores of Maine! On calm days you may wonder what the fuss is all about. But wait until the waves kick up a few notches. Thunder Hole is a small inlet, naturally carved out of the rocks, where the waves roll into. At the end of this inlet, down low, is a small cavern where, when the rush of the wave arrives, air and water is forced out like a clap of distant thunder. Water may spout as high as 40 feet with a thunderous roar! Hence the name: Thunder Hole.

Accessibility: Upper level viewing area, restrooms and parking is wheelchair accessible.

Nothing symbolizes the power of Acadia National Park as much as Thunder Hole does.
When the right size wave rolls into the naturally formed inlet, a deep thunderous sound emanates. The cause is a small cavern formed low, just beneath the surface of the water. When the wave pulls back just before lunging forward, it dips the water just below the ceiling of the cavern allowing air to enter. When the wave arrives full force, it collides with the air, forcing it out, resulting in a sound like distant thunder. Water may splash into the air as high as 40 feet with a roar!
This is a beautiful spot to view some of the most striking features within Acadia. Northward is Sand Beach and the Great Head to the right. Southward is the majestic 110 foot high Otter Cliff, one of the highest headlands north of Rio de Janeiro.
Thunder Hole is just past Sand Beach while traveling south on the Park Loop Road. The Island Explorer Shuttle Bus stops here about every half hour during normal seasonal daytime hours.

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK | Fall in Bar Harbor, Maine
A weekend in Acadia National Park in the Fall is what dreams are made of. Never have I seen leaves changing in such abundance... The park itself is small but the views are like nothing else I have ever seen. We stayed in an RV at Blackwoods Campground within the park and hiked around Jordan Pond and did the Bee Hive Trail. We also hiked down Cadillac mountain and enjoyed the panoramic views from the top.
I cant wait to go back one summer to see it when it's warm out!

How to avoid traffic at Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor Maine
My Beautiful Bride and I were privileged to be in Maine for some concert opportunity's. While we were there we decided to take a day and drive too the coast. We could see in our Waze app that Cadilac Mountain and all surrounding roads were jammed packed with tourist. We looked on the map and found a small and secluded part of Acadia National Park that few people go to. We read the reviews and everyone said that it was incredible and now we can put our stamp of agreement on it! I would recommend it to anyone! I hope you enjoy this episode and all the beauty it entails!
