Adinath temple in Maheshkhali island is very attractive. The Adinath temple (আদিনাথ মন্দির) is on the top of a hill. The hilly temple can be seen from a long distance. Maheshkhali ( মহেশখালী ) island is a Upazila (Sub-District) in Cox’s Bazar district. It is a great tourist attraction. Everyday tourists visit this island. Its total land area is 268 square kilometres. It is located by the coast of Cox’s Bazar. The island is mostly known for its beauty and tranquility. There are about four lac inhabitants in the island. There are hills in the island. The island is the unique hilly island in Bangladesh. The average height of the hills are 300 metres. The hilly island charms the tourists.

The Maheshkhali ( মহেশখালী ) island is about twelve kilometres away from Cox’s Bazar town. Speedboats, trawlers and ships are available from Cox’s Bazar to communicate with the island. It takes 20 minutes by speed boat, 30-35 minutes by trawlers. Ships require some extra times. The island is declared as “Digital Island” by the government of Bangladesh in 27 April 2017. There are three small island in Maheshkhali- Sonadia island, Matarbari island and Dholghata island. There is mangrove forest in the island. The villages of the island are very nice. Cox’s Bazar district is under Chittagong division. Cox’s Bazar is also known as ‘Panowa’. Panowa means yellow flower. The oldest name of Cox’s Bazar is ‘Palongkee’. The modern name Cox's Bazar is derived from captain Hiram Cox. Cox’s Bazar town was constituted in 1869. It became a municipality after independence (in 1989). The tourist police is with you for your security.

An island off the coast of Coxs Bazar. It has an area of 268 square kilometers. Through the centre of the island and along the eastern coast line rises a range of low hills, 300 feet high; but the coast to the west and north is a low-lying treat, fringed by mangrove jungle. In the hills on the coast is built the shrine of Adinath, dedicated to Siva. By its side on the same hill is Buddhist Pagoda.

Tourists can reach this island by local motorboats called trawlers or by speedboat. By trawler, it takes an hour and a half and by speedboat only half an hour. Tourists will find interesting sights like mangrove forests, hilly areas, salt fields etc. This is famous for its Buddhist Temple or Pagoda; a whole day can be spent sightseeing if one includes visits to Sonadia and some other nearby islands.

শিবপুরাণ ও ঐতিহাসিকদের বর্ণনা থেকে এই মন্দিরের ঐতিহাসিক সত্যতা প্রমানিত হয়েছে বহু আগেই। শিবপুরাণ অনুযায়ী, মহাদেব শিবের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ ভক্ত ছিল রাবন। রাবনের ভক্তির তীব্রতা এতটাই ছিল যে তিনি তাঁর দশ মস্তক কর্তন করে মহাদেবের পায়ে বিসর্জন দিয়েছিলেন। এই রাবণ একবার নিজের আরাধ্য মহাদেবকে চিরকালের জন্য লঙ্কায় নিয়ে যেতে উদ্যোগী হয়েছিলেন, এবং এই হেতু তিনি মহাদেবের কঠোর সাধনা করে সিদ্ধিলাভ করেন। মহাদেব শিব রাবণের আরধনায় সন্তুষ্ট হয়ে তাকে অভীষ্ট সাধনে বর দান করেন। কিন্তু তিনি এই বরের মধ্যে দুইটি শর্ত দেন যার প্রথমটি হল তিনি লিঙ্গরূপে রাবনের কাঁধে চড়ে লঙ্কায় যাবে এবং দ্বিতীয় শর্তটি ছিল এই শিবলিঙ্গটিকে পথিমধ্যে কোথাও রাখা যাবে না। যদি রাখা হয় তাহলে মহাদেব সেই স্থানেই অবস্থান নেবেন এবং রাবণের অভীষ্ট সাধন হবেনা। এই বলে, ভগবান শিব রাবণকে বর স্বরূপ একটি শিবলিঙ্গ প্রদান করেছিলেন। কিছু দূর আসার পর রাবণ মৈনাক পর্বতের একটি স্থানে এসে মূত্রত্যাগ করার জন্য স্থির হয়। এদিকে দেবরাজ ইন্দ্র চিন্তা করেন যদি রাবণ মহাদেবকে নিয়ে যেতে সফল হয়, তাহলে তাঁর স্বর্গপুরী হারাতে হবে রাবণের কাছে। তখন দেবরাজ ইন্দ্র কৈলাসে গিয়ে গণেশকে সবিস্তারে রাবনের অভিসন্ধি বর্ননা করে রাবণের পথরোধ করার জন্য অনুরোধ করেন। তখন গণেশ মৈনাক পর্বতে এসে এক ব্রাহ্মণ বালকের ছদ্মবেশ ধরে অপেক্ষা করতে থাকেন। এদিকে প্রকৃতির ডাকের যন্ত্রনায় কাতর রবন ব্রাহ্মণ বালকের ছদ্মবেশধারী গনেশকে দেখামাত্র তাকে শিবলিঙ্গটি ক্ষনিকের জন্য বহন করতে বলেন এবং অনুরোধ জ্ঞাপন করে যে, সে যেন কোনও ভাবে এই শিবলিঙ্গটি মাটিতে না রাখে। কিন্তু গণেশ রাবণ যাওয়ার পর পরই শিবলিঙ্গটি ভূমিতে রেখে দেন। রাবন ফিরে এসে দেখতে পেলেন বালকটি তাঁর শিবলিঙ্গটি ভুমিতে স্থাপন করেছে এবং শিবলিঙ্গটি সেখানেই স্থায়ীভাবে স্থাপিত হয়েছে। হতভম্ব রাবণ শত চেষ্টা করেও শিবলিঙ্গটি স্থানান্তরে অসমর্থ হন এবং এই শিবলিঙ্গটিই পরবর্তীতে মৈনাক শিখরেই আদিনাথ রুপে পূজিত হতে থাকেন।

Maheshkhali is the only hill country of Bangladesh. Maheshkhali Island is an administrative area of ​​Cox's Bazar district of Chittagong division of Bangladesh. Maheshkhali Upazila consists of three smaller small islands. These are: Sonadia, Matarbari and Dholghata. Many visitors and felicitation of Siv Bhaktikul from the fair are held in the fair at the foot of the Monak mountain for 13 days.

ADINATH TEMPLE (আদিনাথ মন্দির) II Moheshkhali

Adinath Temple is situated on top of the Mainak slope, around 85.3m over the ocean level, in town Thakurtala under Gorakhghata Union in maheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar region. One can achieve Gorakhghata by pontoon from Kastarighat of Cox's Bazar.

There is no legitimate verification to interface Gorakhghata or the sanctuary with Goraksanatha, the master of the Natha people group. It might be that one of the supporters of Goraksanatha may have named the ghat at Maheshkhali after the master. Natha logic advanced out of the long relationship of the Saivites with the Buddhists and in the tenth eleventh hundreds of years raised Tantric Shastras. Adinatha (variations Matsyendranatha or Minanatha) developed through this procedure of advancement. Nathism speaks to the people religion of Bengal in light of mantra-tantra and self-denial.

The Adinath sanctuary obviously appears in its development the relationship of the Natha people group. The sanctuary is 6 m high and measures 10.5 m “9.75 m; the inward dividers are 1.05 m thick, while external dividers are 0.60 m thick. There are three sections; the northern part, which is more seasoned, contains two square rooms (3.35 m every side) for love - the eastern one has the picture of Adinatha Banalinga Shiva and the western one has the picture of eight-outfitted Durga (Idol). The passageway is bow-formed, while the doorways on the northern and southern sides have been shut with brickwork. There are two windows, one on the east and the other on the west side. The two rooms are secured with arches on preventives. The finials on top are finished with lotus, kalasa and chakra. The highest points of the octagonal columns have kalasa and twined scrolls. The highest point of the curve on the western side has botanical and the eastern one has trickle beautification. There are two specialties on the southern divider. The second and third parts of the sanctuary are late increments.

From the beginning of the sanctuary a yearly reasonable is held here on the Shiva Chaturdashi or the fourteenth day of the darker portion of the month of Falguna. The reasonable goes on for eight to ten days and numerous explorers.

মহেশখালী উপজেলা বাংলাদেশের চট্টগ্রাম বিভাগের কক্সবাজার জেলার একটি প্রশাসনিক এলাকা। এই অঞ্চলটি কক্সবাজারের একটি বাটি অঞ্চল দ্বীপ রুপেও পরিবেশিত।

কক্সবাজার শহর থেকে ১২ কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থিত কক্সবাজার থেকে বিভিন্ন ট্রলার এবং স্পিড বোটে করে যাতায়াতের ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে এছাড়াও কেউ কেউ হেলিকপ্টারে করে ও চলাচল করে থাকে। এটি প্রায় ২০০ বছর আগে মহেশ খালি নামে পরিচিত হয়ে উঠে, বৌদ্ধ সেন মহেশ্বর দ্বারাইএটির নামকরণ হয়েছিল। যা মহেশখালী দ্বীপ নামেও পরিচিত।

উত্তর পূর্বে চকরিয়া উপজেলা, দক্ষিণ পূর্বে কক্সবাজার সদর উপজেলা, দক্ষিণ, পশ্চিমে বঙ্গোপসাগর এবং উত্তর পশ্চিমে কুতুবদিয়া উপজেলা।

অধ্যাপক ড. সুনীতি ভূষণ কানুনগোর মতে, ১৫৫৯ খ্রিস্টাব্দের প্রচণ্ড ঘূর্ণিঝড় ও জলোচ্ছ্বাসে মূল ভূ-খন্ড থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে এই দ্বীপের সৃষ্টি হয়। একজন পর্তুগীজ ভ্রমণকারী আরাকান অঞ্চলে এই প্রলয়ংকরী ঘূর্ণিঝড়ের বিবরণ লিপিবদ্ধ করে গেছেন। তাছাড়া দ্বীপের পূর্ব প্রান্ত দিয়ে উত্তর

দক্ষিণমুখী পাহাড় এবং তার পাদদেশে প্রবাহিত চ্যানেল থাকার কারণে অনুমিত হয় যে, দ্বীপটি একসময় মূল ভূ-খন্ডের সাথে যুক্ত ছিলো। মহেশখালী উপজেলা আরো তিনটি ছোট ছোট দ্বীপের সমন্বয়ে গঠিত। এগুলো হলো: সোনাদিয়া, মাতারবাড়ী ও ধলঘাটা। পান, মাছ, শুঁটকী, চিংড়ি, লবণ এবং মুক্তার উৎপাদন এই উপজেলাটিকে দিয়েছে আলাদা পরিচিতি।

তবে উপজেলার উত্তর প্রান্তে জনতা বাজার নামক স্থানে মহেশখালী সেতু নির্মিত হওয়ায় মূল ভূ-খন্ডের সাথে যুক্ত হয়েছে মহেশখালী। কোহেলিয়া নদীর উপর অন্য একটি সংযোগ সেতুর দ্বারা মূল মহেশখালীর সাথে যুক্ত হয়েছে উপজেলার মাতারবাড়ী ও ধলঘাটা ইউনিয়ন। এদিকে মহেশখালী চ্যানেল ধীরে ধীরে নাব্যতা হারাচ্ছে, নদীতে জেগে উঠছে চর। হয়ত একদিন নদীটি ভরাট হয়ে মূল ভূখন্ডের সাথে আবারো মিশে যাবে দ্বীপটি। তাছাড়া দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমে এবং ধলঘাটা ও মাতারবাড়ী ইউনিয়নের পশ্চিমে বিরাট চর জেগে উঠেছে (২০১০) যা আগামী কয়েক বছরের মধ্যে বসবাসের উপযোগী হয়ে উঠতে পারে। তাই দ্বীপটি ধীরে ধীরে মূল ভূখন্ডের সাথে যুক্ত হয়ে এর দ্বীপ উপাধি হারাতে পারে।

দ্বীপটির নামকরণের ইতিহাস সুবিদিত নয়। কিংবদন্তি অনুসারে, ছোট মহেশখালীর তৎকালীন এক প্রভাবশালী বাসিন্দা নুর মোহাম্মদ সিকদার, মাঝে মাঝেই পাহাড়ে হরিণ শিকার করতে যেতেন। একদিন হরিণ শিকার করতে গিয়ে সারা দিন এদিক-ওদিক ঘুরেও শিকারের সন্ধান না পেয়ে একটি গাছের নিচে বসে বিশ্রাম নিচ্ছিলেন। হঠাৎ কিছু একটার শব্দে তার তন্দ্রা টুটে যায়। শব্দ অনুসরণ করে তিনি দেখতে পান যে, একটি গাভী একটি মসৃণ শিলাখন্ডের উপর বাট থেকে দুধ ঢালছে; এই গাভীটি তারই গোয়ালঘর থেকে কিছুদিন আগে হারিয়ে যায়। গাভী আর সেই সুন্দর শিলাখন্ডটি নিয়ে তিনি বাড়ি ফেরেন। সেদিন রাতেই তিনি স্বপ্নে দেখতে পান: এক মহাপুরুষ তাঁকে বলছেন যে, শিলাখন্ডটি একটি দেব বিগ্রহ। এ বিগ্রহ যেখান থেকে নিয়ে এসেছেন সেখানে রেখে তার উপর একটি মন্দির নির্মাণ করতে হবে। মন্দিরের নাম হবে আদিনাথ মন্দির। এ আদিনাথের (শিবের) ১০৮ নামের মধ্যে মহেশ অন্যতম। আর এই মহেশ নাম হতেই এই স্থান পরবর্তীতে মহেশখালী হয়ে যায়।

বাংলাদেশের একমাত্র পাহাড়ি দ্বীপ মহেশখালী (Maheshkhali Island)। এটি কক্সবাজার জেলার একটি উপজেলা। বাংলাদেশে অনেকগুলো দীপ থাকলেও এখানেই আসলেই কেবল দেখা মিলবে উঁচু উঁচু কিছু পাহাড়ের। পাহাড়, সমুদ্র, নীল পানি, সবুজ অরণ্য এক কোথায় চমৎকার।

Maheshkhali is the only hilly island in Bangladesh. It is located in the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Cox's Bazar. This island was separated from the mainland Cox's Bazar by cyclone and tidal bore of 1559. This is another tourist destination for the Cox's Bazar going tourists. From Cox’s Bazar jetty, it takes about half an hour by speed boat or an hour by a trawler to reach Maheshkhali island.

The total area of Maheshkhali is 268 square km. This island holds striking landscapes, spectacular ranges of hills, breathtaking mangrove forests, sandy beaches, salt fields, battle leaf fields, dry fish fields, dry fish bazar, Adinath Temple, Gowro Nitai Temple, Golden Buddhist Temple, Rakhain villages, Moheshkhali Terminal, Moheshkhali New Jetty and many more.

The dry fishes of Maheshkhali’s are very famous, cheap, and pure. If you came here, must buy the dry fish. The battle leaf of Maheshkhali is also famous.

কক্সবাজার জেলার মহেশখালী উপজেলার গোরকঘাটা ইউনিয়নের ঠাকুরতলা গ্রামে এই মন্দিরটি অবস্থিত, যা সমুদ্র-সমতল থেকে প্রায় ৮৫.৩ মিটার উঁচুতে। এই মন্দিরটি মৈনাক পাহাড়ের চূড়ায় নির্মিত, যা সমতল থেকে ৬৯টি সিঁড়ি ভেঙে উঠতে হয়। আদিনাথের অপর নাম মহেশ। এই মহেশের নামানুসারে মহেশখালী।

কক্সজবাজার শহরের যেকোন জায়গা থেকে মহেশখালী যাবার জেটিতে (৬ নং ঘাট) চলে আসতে হবে। তারপর লোকাল ট্রলার বা স্পীড বোটে মহেশখালী যেতে পারেন। স্পিডবোটে ৭৫ টাকা আর ট্রলারে পড়বে জনপ্রতি ৩০ টাকা। চাইলে স্পিডবোট রিজার্ভ নিতে পারবেন। মহেশখালি এসে সবকিছু ঘুরে দেখতে রিক্সা অথবা ইজিবাইক ভাড়া করে নিবেন। আর অন্য পথে যেতে আপনাকে চট্টগ্রাম থেকে সড়ক পথে চকরিয়া এসে বদরখালি হয়ে মহেশখালি আসতে হবে। এ পথে মহেশখালি আসতে দেড় ঘন্টা সময় লাগবে।
রাবণ লঙ্কা যুদ্ধে রামের সঙ্গে জয়লাভের জন্য দেবাদিদেব মহাদেবের কাছে অমরত্ব বর প্রার্থনা করেন। মহাদেব এসময় কৈলাসে ধ্যানমগ্ন ছিলেন। তিনি রাবণের আরধনায় সন্তুষ্ট হয়ে তাকে অভীষ্ট সাধনে বর দান করেন এবং শর্ত দেন শিবরূপী উর্ধমুখী শিবলিঙ্গ কে কৈলাস হতে বহন করে লঙ্কায় নিয়ে যেতে হবে এবং পথিমধ্যে কোথাও রাখা যাবে না। যদি রাখা হয় তবে মহাদেব সেই স্থানেই অবস্থান নেবেন এবং রাবণের অভীষ্ট সাধন হবেনা। শর্তানুসারে রাবণ শিবলিঙ্গ বহন করে লঙ্কার উদ্দেশ্য গমন করেন তবে পথিমধ্যে প্রাকৃতিক কর্ম সম্পাদনের লক্ষ্যে বর্তমান মহেশখালীর মৈনাক পর্বতে থামতে বাধ্য হন। পরবর্তীতে শর্তানুসারে রাবণ শিবলিঙ্গ পূনরায় উঠাতে ব্যর্থ হন এবং মহাদেব এই মৈনাক শিখরেই অবস্থান গ্রহণ করেন।

বর্তমানে এই মন্দির কমপ্লেক্সে আছে একটি মসজিদ ও একটি রাখাইন বৌদ্ধ বিহার। তাই অনেকে মন্দিরটিকে অসাম্প্রদায়িক চেতনার প্রতীক মনে করেন। প্রতিবছর শিব চতুর্দশী উপলক্ষে হাজার হাজার দর্শনার্থীর সমাগম ঘটে এ মন্দিরে। এ উপলক্ষে ১০/১৫ দিন মেলা বসে।

এখানে খাবার জন্য কিছু স্থানীয় রেস্টুরেন্ট থাকলেও পর্যটকদের থাকার জন্য কোন আবাসন গড়ে উঠেনি তাই মহেশখালিতে রাত্রি যাপন তেমন নিরাপদ নয়। রাতে কক্সবাজার কিংবা সুবিধাজনক স্থানে ফিরে যাওয়াই উত্তম।
