A Coast Guard aircrew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Facility Newport rescued a 22-year-old female surfer in distress near Agate Beach State Park, April 9, 2016. This beach is filled with small rocks the size of a golf ball. When the waves wash in or out, they swirl the rocks around...it's pretty loud.

HIDDEN Sea Caves, a Beach WATERFALL and The Goonies Rock - Oregon Coastal ADVENTURE
We had a great coastal adventure in Oregon at Ecola State Park. It was full of sea caves, hidden beaches and even a waterfall right on the beach! We hiked through a beautiful, mossy, tree lined path that led to the hidden Crescent beach and explored the vast rock formations. We found amazing hidden sea caves and had the place practically all to ourselves. Then we walked South to Cannon Beach and saw Haystack Rock (or The Goonies Rock) and found even more exciting sea caves. It was a great day of exploration on the Oregon Coast.

Exploding Whale on the Oregon Coast
On November 12, 1970, a 14 m (45 ft 11 in), eight-ton sperm whale died as a result of beaching itself near Florence, Oregon. Because all Oregon beaches are under the jurisdiction of the State Parks and Recreation Department, responsibility for disposing of the carcass fell upon the Oregon Highway Division (now known as the Oregon Department of Transportation, or ODOT), a sister agency. After consulting with officials at the United States Navy, they decided that it would be best to remove the whale in the same way they would remove a boulder and, on November 12, used half a ton of dynamite on it. They thought burying the whale would be ineffective, as it would soon be uncovered, and they believed the use of dynamite would cause an explosion that would disintegrate the whale into pieces small enough for scavengers to clear up. The engineer in charge of the operation, George Thornton, was recorded as stating that one set of charges might not be enough and more might be needed. Thornton later explained that he was chosen to remove the whale because the district engineer, Dale Allen, had gone hunting ~ From wikipedia

Since moving out to the northernmost corner of the California coast, I have been taken aback by its unmatched beauty. I am constantly in awe of the natural landscape of this remote and often overlooked part of California. Equipped with my camera, I have attempted to capture some of the sights that have me claiming this as the most beautiful place I have ever lived. Since July, I have hiked, driven and explored Del Norte and Humboldt Counties, spending my days wandering through and capturing the woods and beaches of NorCal.

Fossils of Oregon: Beverly Beach – BetterGeology
The state of Oregon is rich with fossils. The coast has many fossil localitles, but few were blessed with such rich fossil beds as those found at Beverly Beach State Beach. Thousands of fossils of mollusks (clams, snails, and more!), petrified wood, and the occasional mammal fossil; erode out of the cliffs onto the beach. And it's perfectlu legal to collect them as well! What produced this amazing assemblage of fossils, and what allowed these ancienct organisms to survive as fossils? Find out on BetterGeology!
Crystal Beach
Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, CA, sits on the North Coast of Mendocino County. I visited this location a couple of times over the course of a week capturing the beauty in its nature. In the late1940′s residents of the Fort Bragg area threw their garbage over the cliff at this location creating a dump. Over time the minerals from the seawater transformed the glass and debris into smooth crystal like pieces. Creating what I call Crystal Beach. A light motif of new life; of something that was once in decay now immersed in the land bringing with it new life.
