Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Have you been to New York? What are your favorite things about this city? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Museum of Contemporary Art are the best stops for art in San Diego by Todd Krasovetz
Art in San Diego, CA by Todd Krasovetz
Contemporary San Diego: Art Inside & Out
As an artist living in San Diego, CA, there are many art galleries, art fairs and museums to visit. From the best showcase of local artists at the San Diego ArtWalk festival in Little Italy, to the annual gathering of leading contemporary galleries from around the world at the Art San Diego - Contemporary Art Fair, San Diego celebrates the best of the best in visual arts.
When visiting San Diego, CA you must make the following stops.
First stop is the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, where you can take in the latest exhibition. Pass through the historic Santa Fe Train Depot, a stunning example of Spanish Mission Colonial Revival architecture on the way to the next stop, the San Diego State University Downtown Gallery, featuring important work by SDSU alumni and faculty. Finally, engage your inner-child with hands-on art-making at The New Children's Museum.
Do you enjoy big time art events? If so, you must visit San Diego Comic-Con International 2012 which is the largest comic and pop culture event in the United States attracting thousands of artists, celebrities and fans of comic books, movie memorabilia and all things related to pop culture, Comic-Con has become a signature summertime event in San Diego.
Is photography is your passion? Then San Diego offers it all! Balboa Park is one of the most widely photographed destinations in San Diego, and for good reason: It's simply stunning! Created in 1868 as a 1,200 acre overlook of the ambitious project that relocated San Diego's business and political center to its current location, the lush landscaped beauty, with its art and cultural institutions and green-space, is the largest urban cultural park in the United States and often referred to as the Smithsonian of the West.
Do you love Art Galleries? The majority of the high-end contemporary art galleries and most popular museums are located in La Jolla, CA. The Hyatt by the Bay, the Hilton next to Petco Park, and the W Hotel are the best places in San Diego to see contemporary abstract art. There is some on the mezzanine of the US Grant as well.
Overall, San Diego's art scene is rich in culture, colors, flavors, and sounds. Enjoy photographing breathtaking waterfront views and one of a kind artwork from a 1898 Berkeley steam ferry.
Emerge yourself into the pop culture of the San Diego Comic-Con International or see the latest exhibits at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the San Diego Art scene has it all and is a wonderful place to live and visit.
Pieter Schoolwerth: Depicting the World Once Removed
For over 20 years, painter and filmmaker Pieter Schoolwerth’s work has addressed the ways in which the ever-changing and often invisible forces of abstraction in the world, which can be associated with the digitization of more and more aspects of experience, affect the task of representing the human body. Schoolwerth has developed an expanded painting practice incorporating photography, image processing, inkjet printing and relief sculpture that can be said to echo the compression of space and time paradigmatic of communication today, in an effort to depict the human figure in virtual space – a world once removed from itself, in which the body is present through being absent. The talk will be followed by a conversation with artist and SVA Art History faculty member Lorne Blythe (MFA 2010 Photography, Video and Related Media). Presented by BFA Visual & Critical Studies.
Pieter Schoolwerth is an artist and filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. Since receiving his BFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 1994, he has exhibited internationally, with notable solo shows at Thread Waxing Space, Greene Naftali, American Fine Arts Co., and Miguel Abreu Gallery, New York, Galerie SKE, New Delhi, India, Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Paris and Brussels, and Capitain Petzel, Berlin. His work has been included in group exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Pompidou, Paris, The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, Sadie Coles HQ, London, and Gavin Brown Enterprises, New York. His work is in the permanent collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Denver Art Museum, and the Phoenix Art Musuem. In 2017 Schoolwerth presented his latest project Model as Painting in a series of three iterations, with solo exhibitions in Berlin, New York, and Paris. From 2003 to 2013, Schoolwerth ran Wierd Records and the Wierd Party at Home Sweet Home on the LES of NYC. Wierd released music by 42 bands working in the genres of minimal electronics, coldwave and noise, and produced over 500 live music, dj, and performance art events internationally (wierdrecords.com).
