The Aiguilles de Bavella (Corsican: I Forchi di Bavedda) are rocky spikes of red granite[1] that dominate the hill of the same name. The name means needles of Bavella. At 1218 m, the hill connects the Alta Rocca (fr) to the east coast of Corsica. This massif is smaller yet much more popular than the aiguilles de Popolasca. The site is characterized by jagged peaks, large rock walls and pine trees twisted by the wind.
Located in the centre of the Massif de Bavella, are the seven tours d'Asinau, or towers of Asinau, the actual needles. These are traditionally numbered from south to north:
Punta di l'Acellu (Punta ll'Aceddu, 1 588 m)
Punta di l'Ariettu (Punta ll'Arghjetu, 1 591 m)
Punta di a Vacca (Punta lla Vacca, 1 611 m), the only tower accessible to a simple hiker
Punta di u Pargulu (Punta llu Pàrgulu, 1 785 m), separated from the previous towers by the Bocca di u Pargulu (1662 m), taken by the Alpine variant of the GR 20
Punta Longa (1836 m)
Punta Alta (1855 m), the highest
Punta Iolla (1848 m), separated from the Punta Alta by the Bocca di u Santu (1745 m)
The highest points of the Bavella massif stand a little to the north of the Needles with both Punta di u Furnellu (Punta llu Furneddu) and Punta Muvrareccia (A Mufrareccia) at 1899m. The massif is overshadowed by the highest peak in the region, Monte Incudine (fr) (2134 m). It extends from the forest of Tova and the town of Solaro to the 1381m Monte Calva to the south, the edges of the Massif de l'Ospedale, and almost to Conca and the sea in the east.
From Mount Incudine to the Bavella Pass, the GR 20 footpath, after reaching the refuge of Asinau at 1536m, passes by the foot of the aiguilles de Bavella in the Rizzanese Valley (Asinau), but a so-called alpine variant route allows the towers of Bavella to be reached via the Bocca di u Pargulu (Bocca llu Pàrgulu, 1662 m). After the Bavella pass, the path begins its descent towards Conca, via Foce Finosa (1206 m) and the i Paliri refuge (1055 m) at the foot of the Punta Tafunata (literally Pierced Peak), a 1312 m high mountain with a hole.
A statue of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges (Our Lady of the Snows) stands at the pass, a few meters from the road, on top of a large mound of boulders. The Purcaraccia (fr) is a famous creek with waterfalls and natural pools. The trail starts about 8 km from there on the D268 towards Sari-Solenzara. The towns of Quenza, Zonza and Conca stand in a curve to the southwest of the Bavella Pass.

Petite balade de Porto-Vecchio au Col de Bavella, par la D 368, l'Ospédale, le lac d'Ospédale (artificiel et son barrage), jusqu'à Zonza pour prendre la D 268 qui arrive au col des aiguilles de Bavella.

La tour carrée à créneaux annonce le village d' Arddidali, Arbellara, envahi par les Turcs au cours des années 1582 à 1584.
Un pan d'Histoire se dresse devant nous.
Le carrefour et l'église passés, la route s'adoucit. Belle et large, elle fonce vers Fozzano. Fozza, une poignée de maisons austères accrochées les unes aux autres sur le versant sud de la colline, deux tours, a Torra Vechja de la famille Carabelli dont est issue Colomba, l'autre appartenant aux Durazzo. Une Vindetta entre ces deux clans dans les années 1830 inspira Mérimée. Son roman Colomba, prénom que nous est cher, influença tellement la Mémoire corse qu'elle la faussa même parfois.
Déjà on aperçoit, nichées au pieds des roches rouges aux formes tourmentées, quelques maisons de granit bordant un clocher en contrebas sur lequel un jeune figuier s'est invité. C'est Santa Maria Ficaniedda et son église Santa Maria Assunta bâtie vers le XII° siècle. Un beau petit village en balcon sur le golfe du Valinco.
Le col Siu resté sauvage devient exigeant, mais cette montagne est superbe et à deux pas de la mer !

Bavella is a highlight of the corsican mountain.

Les aiguilles de Bavella (ou encore Tours d’Asinéo ) se trouvent du coté nord ouest de Porto-Vecchio, entre Zonza et Solenzara dans le massif de Bavella. Les aiguilles sont un ensemble de murailles rocheuses et de pics déchiquetés, un endroit hostilement beau, exposé au vent et à une vue merveilleuse.
Elles culiminent à 1899 m avec une vue imprenable sur la mer et la possibilité de voir l'île de Monte Cristo par beau temps.
Le col de Bavella (1 243 m) est considéré comme le plus beau de Corse par l’étendue et la richesse de son panorama.
Le massif de Bavella est constitué d’une forêt de pin laricio sur les hauteurs, de pins maritimes et de chênes plus bas, auxquels ont été adjoints cèdres et châtaigniers depuis les années soixante au fils des reboisements qui ont succédé aux incendies successifs.

De retour de notre road trip en Corse, aujourd'hui on vous emmène avec nous à la découverte du Sud de la Corse, en plein coeur de l'Alta Rocca. Et plus précisément à la découverte du Col et des Aiguilles de Bavella ! Il s'agit en réalité de pics de granite, des murailles rocheuses qui forment un paysage juste sublime !
