Aisha-bibi mausoleum, dated to the 11th-12th centuries and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is located 20 km from Taraz on the outskirts of Aisha-bibi village of Zhambyl district. Of all historical monuments on the territory of the region, perhaps, it is considered the most famous and interesting in its construction. Contemporaries call it the pearl of Taraz. According to its spiritual purpose, the Mazar is akin to the famous Indian mosque of Mumtaz Mahal, better known as the Taj Mahal, to the Portuguese monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobas, to the Japanese temple of Himegais. All of them are erected in honor of great love.

“Aisha-Bibi” is the only architectural monument in Kazakhstan, which is fully lined with carved terracotta tiles. The bricks of the Aisha-Bibi mausoleum are decorated with 60 varieties of patterns, including “koshkar muyiz”, hexagonal stars and floral ornaments. The design of tiles is very poetic. It is not without reason that poetic lines are carved on the columns in the Kufic style of Arabic writing.

Arystan Bab Mausoleum
Timur's construction of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi's mausoleum in Kasakhstan was unsuccessful till he was told in a dream that he should first build a mausoleum over the grave of the mystic Arystan Baba, Yasawi's master.
The mausoleum dates from the 14th century and is constructed over Arystan Baba's 12th-century grave. It has been reconstructed several times, up to the 18th century.

The video Aisha Bibi’s Butterflies (2010) unfolds against the finely carved limestone walls of the Aisha Bibi mausoleum, which is located near the Kazakh city of Taraz. The work references an ancient love story between the noble beauty Aisha Bibi and the wealthy warlord Karakhan. Menlibayeva dresses young Bibi and the other women who make their appearance in the film in traditional dress.
In the Steppes of her native Kazakhstan, Menlibayeva stages and films complex mythological narratives, with reference to her own nomadic heritage and the Shamanistic traditions of the cultures of Central Asia. The video recounts an ancient love story of the Sufi poet’s daughter Aisha Bibi and Karakhan, the Central Asian version of Romeo and Juliet, visually transforming it into a modern day drama of unfulfilled longing, unconditional love and its underlying gender discourse, addressing a never ceasing problematic synergy/symbiosis, deeply rooted in the civilizations born between the elements of earth and sky.

Hello, JOLANG is here again and today i will present TARAZ a city in the south of Kazakhstan along the Taras River, Karmjan and Akhmetzhan Rabzhan singing to it.
The city of Taraz can look back on a history of over 2000 years. The Aisha Bibi Mausoleum of the 12th century is visited by many couples on the day of their wedding, which is said to bring good luck. The archetecture, the culture but also the people with their hospitality reflect this long past. The diverse influences, which were not only taken over, but also formed, can be felt throughout the city. I also like the mix of tradition and modernity, which you meet alternately in the city. On the periphery of the city, fruit and vegetables are grown on the fertile soil.
Looking at the numbers and international comparisons, Taraz is in many ways a city that offers a model for the future. Talking, listening and understanding often lead to good, flexible solutions. I see Taraz's strengths in the dynamic economy, the sense of culture and the quality of life that the city offers.

«Айша-Биби» – это единственный в Казахстане памятник архитектуры, который полностью облицован резными терракотовыми плитками. Кирпичи мавзолея Айша-Биби украшены 60 разновидностями узоров, среди них «кошкар муйиз», шестиугольные звезды и растительный орнамент. Такая роспись плиток придает им некоторую поэтичность. Недаром на колоннах куфическим стилем арабского письма вырезаны стихотворные строки.
