Driving Downtown - Cleveland Cruise 4K - USA
Driving Downtown Streets - Superior Avenue - Cleveland Ohio USA - Episode 69.
Starting Point: .
Cleveland is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County, the most populous county in the state. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie, approximately 60 miles (100 kilometers) west of the Pennsylvania border. It was founded in 1796 near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, and became a manufacturing center owing to its location on the lake shore, as well as being connected to numerous canals and railroad lines. Cleveland's economy has diversified sectors that include manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, and biomedical. Cleveland is also home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Economy
The city diversified its economy in addition to its manufacturing sector. Cleveland is home to the corporate headquarters of many large companies such as Applied Industrial Technologies, Cliffs Natural Resources, Forest City Enterprises, NACCO Industries, Sherwin-Williams Company and KeyCorp. NASA maintains a facility in Cleveland, the Glenn Research Center. Jones Day, one of the largest law firms in the US, began in Cleveland.[76] In 2007, Cleveland's commercial real estate market experienced rebound with a record pace of purchases,[77][78] with a housing vacancy of 10%.
Sports
Cleveland's major professional sports teams include the Cleveland Indians (Major League Baseball), Cleveland Browns (National Football League), and Cleveland Cavaliers (National Basketball Association). Local sporting facilities include Progressive Field, FirstEnergy Stadium, Quicken Loans Arena and the Wolstein Center.
The Cleveland Indians won the World Series in 1920 and 1948. They also won the American League pennant, making the World Series in the 1954, 1995, and 1997 seasons. Between 1995 and 2001, Progressive Field (then known as Jacobs Field) sold out 455 consecutive games, a Major League Baseball record until it was broken in 2008.[133]
Cleveland Browns games attract large crowds to FirstEnergy Stadium.
The Cavaliers won the Eastern Conference in 2007 and 2015, but were defeated in the NBA Finals by the San Antonio Spurs and then by the Golden State Warriors, respectively. The Cavs won the Conference again in 2016 and won their first NBA Championship, finally defeating the Golden State Warriors. Afterwards, an estimated 1.3 million people attended a parade held in the Cavs honor.
Tourism
Five miles (8.0 km) east of downtown Cleveland is University Circle, a 550-acre (2.2 km2) concentration of cultural, educational, and medical institutions, including the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals, Severance Hall, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Western Reserve Historical Society. A 2011 study by Walk Score ranked Cleveland 17th most walkable of fifty largest U.S. cities. Cleveland is home to the I. M. Pei-designed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, located on the Lake Erie waterfront at North Coast Harbor downtown. Neighboring attractions include Cleveland Browns Stadium, the Great Lakes Science Center, the Steamship Mather Museum, and the USS Cod, a World War II submarine. Cleveland has an attraction for visitors and fans of A Christmas Story: A Christmas Story House and Museum to see props, costumes, rooms, photos and other materials related to the Jean Shepherd film. Cleveland is home to many festivals throughout the year. Cultural festivals such as the annual Feast of the Assumption in the Little Italy neighborhood, the Harvest Festival in the Slavic Village neighborhood, and the more recent Cleveland Asian Festival in the Asia Town neighborhood are popular events. Vendors at the West Side Market in Ohio City offer many different ethnic foods for sale. Cleveland hosts an annual parade on Saint Patrick's Day that brings hundreds of thousands to the streets of downtown.

Carver High School celebrates 50th anniversary of milestone championship
Carver High School in Atlanta is celebrating the 50-year anniversary of a historic basketball championship. In The 1966-1967 school year was the first time the Georgia High School Association allowed all-black high schools, like Carver at the time, to compete against all-white high schools and integrated high schools. In 1967, Carver won the Class AA boys state basketball championship.
With us winning, we put joy and happiness in a lot of people in the black community that was just looking for hope, something to hold onto, said Roy Stanley, a senior and team captain on the 1967 championship team. Once we became champions, no one could take that away. We put a lot of joy and happiness not just for our school, but the whole city.
Before that season, all-black high schools in Georgia competed in a separate organization with separate tournaments, called the Georgia Interscholastic Association. The GHSA refers to 1966-1967 as their first fully integrated year.
The Carver squad was led by a charismatic, energetic coach named Calvin Jones. He was a former point guard at Tuskeegee University and brought a fast-paced style to Carver. Calvin Jones, now 91 years old, also helped his players any way he could, whether it was with advice or a hot meal. He also was always there through the momentous season when, on occasion, opposing teams were disrespectful to the all-black Carver group.
We went through a lot, but he never let it make him hurtful or angry, or spiteful, said Dr. Sara Jones, Calvin's wife. I just thank G-d we were able to do that.
The team was good for several years, including success in city tournaments, despite Carver not having a gym at their school. 1967's campaign ended with a state championship, won at Georgia Tech's gym.
One lasting image from that championship run came after the final game -- the team took a photo with then-Governor Lester Maddox on the state capitol steps. Though some see Governor Maddox differently now, at that time Maddox was known for having segregationist views.
[That meeting] sort of opened the door, said Dr. Sara Fox. They said, 'if Lester Maddox could do that, anybody could!'
According to Stanley, not all players were on board with meeting Maddox.
Some of these guys didn't want to come to school because they didn't want to go down [to the capitol], said Stanley. Coach Jones got in his car and went to each house and said, get ready because you're going to be there.
Though there were integrated schools in Georgia already by this point, some look back at that Carver team as helping the city move forward.
[Coach Jones] was able to bring to the athletic community in Atlanta [together], did quite a bit for race relations, said Wallace A. Bibbs, a former assistant principal at Carver who went on to be principal at other schools. That was in those early years, they were afraid, didn't know what it'd be like. Especially in those contact sports, football and basketball. I just thought it made things smoother.
Calvin Jones would go on to become the first black assistant coach at the University of Georgia, working for the basketball and football teams.
Carver was not alone winning as an all-black high school winning a state championship in 1967 -- Beach High School out of Savannah won the 1967 Class AAA state title in boys basketball.

2018 Ideas Conference - Full Event
For the past 15 years, the Center for American Progress has served as a creative engine for introducing bold solutions that advance progressive values on nearly every possible front. In the past year alone, we have defended the Affordable Care Act; outlined policies to create workplaces that support women and families; discussed the impact of race across a wide range of issue areas; and helped drive opposition to President Donald Trump’s tax plan.
At CAP, we believe that ideas are the heart of all progressive change, but we also know that ideas aren’t enough. It takes grassroots advocacy and real leadership supporting those ideas to create true progressive change.
As we celebrate our 15th year of big ideas, CAP is bringing together elected officials, policy experts, cultural influencers, and grassroots activists at the 2018 CAP Ideas Conference, where we will explore and unveil new ideas that can make America a place for every single one of us to thrive.

[Wikipedia] Washington meridian (Mississippi)
Meridian is the sixth largest city in the state of Mississippi, United States. It is the county seat of Lauderdale County and the principal city of the Meridian, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area. Along major highways, the city is 93 mi (150 km) east of Jackson, Mississippi; 154 mi (248 km) southwest of Birmingham, Alabama; 202 mi (325 km) northeast of New Orleans, Louisiana; and 231 mi (372 km) southeast of Memphis, Tennessee.
Established in 1860, at the junction of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad and Southern Railway of Mississippi, Meridian built an economy based on the railways and goods transported on them, and it became a strategic trading center. During the American Civil War, General William Tecumseh Sherman burned much of the city to the ground in the Battle of Meridian (February 1864). Rebuilt after the war, the city entered a Golden Age. It became the largest city in Mississippi between 1890 and 1930, and a leading center for manufacturing in the South, with 44 trains arriving and departing daily. Union Station, built in 1906, is now a multi-modal center, with access to the Meridian Transit System, Greyhound Buses, and Trailways, averaging 242,360 passengers per year. Although the economy slowed with the decline of the railroad industry, the city has diversified, with healthcare, military, and manufacturing employing the most people in 2010. The population within the city limits, according to 2008 census estimates, is 38,232, but a population of 232,900 in a 45-mile (72 km) radius and 526,500 in a 65-mile (105 km) radius, of which 104,600 and 234,200 people respectively are in the labor force, feeds the economy of the city.
The area is served by two military facilities, Naval Air Station Meridian and Key Field, which employ over 4,000 people. NAS Meridian is home to the Regional Counter-Drug Training Academy (RCTA) and the first local Department of Homeland Security in the state. Key Field is named after brothers Fred and Al Key, who set a world endurance flight record in 1935. The field is now home to the 186th Air Refueling Wing of the Air National Guard and a support facility for the 185th Aviation Brigade of the Army National Guard. Rush Foundation Hospital is the largest non-military employer in the region, employing 2,610 people. Among the city's many arts organizations and historic buildings are the Riley Center, the Meridian Museum of Art, Meridian Little Theatre, and the Meridian Symphony Orchestra. Meridian was home to two Carnegie libraries, one for whites and one for African Americans. The Carnegie Branch Library, now demolished, was one of a number of Carnegie libraries built for blacks in the Southern United States during the segregation era.
The city has been selected as the future location of the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center (MAEC). Jimmie Rodgers, the Father of Country Music, was born in Meridian. Highland Park houses a museum which displays memorabilia of his life and career, as well as railroad equipment from the steam-engine era. The park is also home to the Highland Park Dentzel Carousel, a National Historic Landmark. It is the world's only two-row stationary Dentzel menagerie in existence.
Other notable natives include Miss America 1986 Susan Akin; James Chaney, an activist who was one of three civil rights workers murdered in 1964; and Hartley Peavey, founder of Peavey Electronics headquartered in Meridian. The federal courthouse was the site of the 1966–1967 trial of suspects in the murder of Chaney and two other activists. For the first time, an all-white jury convicted a white official of a civil rights killing.
