Visit to the Museum Of Alaska Transportation and Industry
I took a trip with some friends up to the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry to check out the vintage toy, train and tractor show, afterwards we took a tour of the facility. Quite a history of Alaskan transportation for sure. Lots that could use restoration, but at the very least, they are keeping a lot of things from finding the scrap yard to they can be seen by generations to come. If you make it to Alaska, take a trip up to Wasilla and check it out!
Ultimate Adventure 2019 | Episode 6: UCM and Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry
Historic sites are visited every year on UA. On this very long road day segment of the trip, the group learns about coal production and transportation and industry in Alaska. Beginning with a family-owned coal mine in Alaska, the Usibelli Coal Mine (UCM) with a workforce of approximately 115 employees, operates year-round. Their mine production has grown from 10,000 tons from 1943 to an average between 1.2 and 2 million tons of coal per year. Currently the only operational coal mine in Alaska, UCM is supported by the most modern mining equipment and state-of-the-art engineering. To round out the day the group toured the Alaska Transportation and Industry museum, a 20-acre facility dedicated to the technology that opened the Last Frontier, this museum is a gearhead’s dream. | LEARN MORE:

Ultimate Adventure 2019 Episode 5, Wildfires, Cool Machines, and Epic Off-Roading in Alaska #UA2019
While some members of Ultimate Adventure spent the morning of Day 6 making repairs, the rest of the group headed to the nearby Usibelli Coal Mine to get a tour of Alaska’s only working coal mine and gawk at some of the biggest, gnarliest machines in North America. After a mine tour, we high-tailed it back down to Wasilla past active wildfire areas to the Transportation and Industry Museum of Alaska which has some of the best examples of backwoods machinery in the state. Finally, UA2019 closed out on Day 7 with the best trail of this year’s event, with a trip up to the top of Bald Mountain. Crazy vegetation, deep mud, and even some rock crawling are on this trail. A near rollover, a B-29 crash site from 1956, and an incredible 360-degree view were the reward. #UltimateAdventure #UA2019 #Offroading

Klondike Alaska: A Rail History
For most people, railroads in Alaska and the Yukon are synonymous with the Alaska Railroad and the White Pass and Yukon Railroad whose passenger cars provide tourists with vistas of awe-inspiring terrain. That same terrain provided enormous challenges for early settlers of both territories. Railroads were an integral part of overcoming those challenges. Dozens of other railroads also laid track in Alaska, the Yukon, and northwest British Columbia and provided the means to transport supplies to settlements and to transport the region’s raw materials to outside markets. Klondike Alaska charts the history of many of those railroads. ©KUAC 2005

Ultimate Adventure 2019 | Episode 5: Denali Highway and Stampede Trail
UA has been known to tackle the most extreme terrain around the United States, and for its 20th anniversary, the Alaska box had to be checked. Also, one can't really mark it without a drive on the Denali Highway, a 135 mile stretch of mostly unpaved road that is only accessible a few months of the year due to snowy conditions. Once upon a time, it was the only road access to the Denali National Park, so you can expect the most spectacular views from this stretch. Finally, the group sees some more action as they venture down the Stampede Trail where they encounter...yep...more infamous (and bottomless) Alaskan mud. | LEARN MORE:

Tanana Valley, Alaska ~~~
This is the famous Tanana Valley in this video.
I hitched a ride just ten miles south of Fairbanks just to grab this shot. All this land in the valley below is owned by Fort Wainwright and there's also an early warning missile detection outpost in this valley.
Off in the distance is Mt. McKinley covered in snow year round.

SUMMARY
=======
Anchorage (officially called the Municipality of Anchorage; Dena'ina: Dgheyaytnu) is a unified home rule municipality in the U.S. state of Alaska. With an estimated 298,192 residents in 2016, it is Alaska's most populous city and contains more than 40 percent of the state's total population; among the 50 states, only New York has a higher percentage of residents who live in its most populous city. All together, the Anchorage metropolitan area, which combines Anchorage with the neighboring Matanuska-Susitna Borough, had a population of 401,635 in 2016, which accounts for more than half of the state's population. At 1,706 square miles of land area, the city is larger than the smallest state, Rhode Island, at 1,212 square miles.Anchorage is in the south-central portion of Alaska, at the terminus of the Cook Inlet, on a peninsula formed by the Knik Arm to the north and the Turnagain Arm to the south. The city limits span 1,961.1 square miles (5,079.2 km2) which encompass the urban core, a joint military base, several outlying communities and almost all of Chugach State Park.Due to its location, almost equidistant from New York City, Frankfurt, and Tokyo, Anchorage lies within 9 1⁄2 hours by air of nearly 90% of the industrialized world. For this reason, the Anchorage International Airport is a common refueling stop for many international cargo flights and home to a major FedEx hub, which the company calls a critical part of its global network of services.Anchorage has won the All-America City Award four times: in 1956, 1965, 1984–85, and 2002, by the National Civic League. It has also been named by Kiplinger as the most tax-friendly city in the United States.

SUMMARY
=======
The Convair F-102 Delta Dagger was an American interceptor aircraft that was built as part of the backbone of the United States Air Force's air defenses in the late 1950s. Entering service in 1956, its main purpose was to intercept invading Soviet strategic bomber fleets (primarily the Tupolev Tu-95) during the Cold War. Designed and manufactured by Convair, 1,000 F-102s were built.
A member of the Century Series, the F-102 was the USAF's first operational supersonic interceptor and delta-wing fighter. It used an internal weapons bay to carry both guided missiles and rockets. As originally designed, it could not achieve Mach 1 supersonic flight until redesigned with area ruling. The F-102 replaced subsonic fighter types such as the Northrop F-89 Scorpion, and by the 1960s, it saw limited service in the Vietnam War in bomber escort and ground-attack roles. It was supplemented by McDonnell F-101 Voodoos and, later, by McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom IIs.
Many of the F-102s were transferred from the active duty Air Force to the Air National Guard by the mid-to-late 1960s, and, with the exception of those examples converted to unmanned QF-102 Full Scale Aerial Target (FSAT) drones, the type was totally retired from operational service in 1976. The follow-on replacement was the Mach-2 Convair F-106 Delta Dart, which was an extensive redesign of the F-102.
