Cooper Landing Alaska
Just a two hour drive from Anchorage, Cooper Landing is centered on the stunningly beautiful turquoise glacial waters of Kenai Lake and the world famous Kenai River in the Chugach National Forest. Known for its world class wild salmon and rainbow trout fishing, visitors can also chance seeing grizzly & black bears, moose, mountain goats, sheep, eagles, swans, loons and other magnificent wildlife. Having visited and lived in Cooper Landing for many years, this is definitely one of our favorite places!
SUP in Cooper Landing Alaska
Adventure Guru Courtney Larsen was recently in Hawaii to get certified as a PSUPA instructor. He sent us this video of his Stand Up Paddle operation in Cooper Landing, Alaska and we just had to share it. He offers exclusive tours going downstream on the Kenai River. It looks like an amazing area to paddle and we will have to go and visit him! If you are interested in paddling in this beautiful area in Alaska, check out Courtney here:
Kenai River Surfing:
Experience the thrill and exhilarating sensation paddle boarding the meandering and ever-changing beautiful turquoise-blue glacier-fed mighty Alaska Kenai River in the heart of pristine mountain-and-tree-vista tapestry of Chugach National Forest.
While standing-on-water and with greater distant visibility, you will see an abundant of ALASKA wildlife including many giant nesting American bald eagles, mergansers, common goldeneye, kingfishers, and many more; and may also see mammals of moose or bear.
No more river kayak ‘trucker’s bum-bum’ or raft ‘leg-cramps’ for hours of cold on end; instead river surfing (similar in technique to downhill mogul skiing), utilizes and warms all muscle groups (arms, back, abs, and legs) staying physically fit with healthy upright posture and concluding with an end-trip exhilarating paddleboard high!
When it comes to SUP destinations, the best spots are the ones off the beaten path. One area where you can find plenty of these “hidden” spots is in the great state of Alaska. Home to some of the most pristine wilderness in the world, Alaska is no doubt teeming with paddling possibilities. This latest video features two paddlers exploring the picturesque Kenai Lake, located near the town of Cooper Landing on the Kenai Peninsula. Turquoise water, lush forest, and cascading snow-covered mountains create the incredible backdrop for this epic location. So hit play and see why Alaska needs to be at the top of your destination list.

EPIC ALASKA, Part 2: Insane wildlife encounters and tons of trout action!!
Part 2 of the series covers our adventures on the days of July 21-23! During our hike up the intense Carter Lake Trail (40% grade in some parts) we encounted a GIANT Moose that was atleast 8 feet tall! She calmly made her way around us and across the trail! We slayed Carter Lake's rainbow, couldn't find a single grayling in Crescent Lake, and the hike back down was much easier! The next day brought a new trail, the Hidden Lake Trail, to a new water, Skilak Lake, and a new taste of Alaskan wildlife, as we turned a blind corner on the trail in and saw a 500lb grizzly bear sitting in our path 20 feet away! She turned and looked at us, then slowly made her way through the forest! We fought off the Pterodactyl size mosquitoes at Skilak and caught nothing, but saw a bald eagle fly above us as we fished! We fished and camped at Ptarmigan Creek that night, with Josh catching a few little guys to pad his lead! The following day we hiked to Vagt Lake, which was ruined by the beavers damning up the water, so we got a few casts in and ate lunch on the shore of Trail Lake once we got back! Just a small glimpse of all the incredible wildlife that Alaska has to offer, and that we got to experience in a short amount of time!!

Journey to Alaska Episode 9: Exploring the Kenai Penninsula
To avoid the heat and smoke of fires burning throughout Alaska, we drive south to the Kenai Peninsula and have a great time exploring Homer, Seward, Portage, Captain Cook State Preserve, Soldotna, and conclude with the famous tunnel from Portage to Whittier where we catch a ferry to Valdez.
Along the way we watch surfers catching the Turnagain Arm bore tide, hike to glaciers, visit an aquarium, and hunt for agates.

The Kenai Peninsula --Alaska's Playground
Hank and I spent two fun-filled weeks camping with a 23 foot RV in the Kenai Peninsula from Aug. 3-18, 2014. It was the most beautiful place we have ever been to and we enjoyed every day. This movie is just a taste of what we saw and did in Alaska.
