Ales Stenar | Viking Stones in Sweden
Ales Stenar | Viking Stones in Sweden. Stone ships like Ales Stenar (Ale’s Stones) were often built during the Viking Era between 800-1050 CE. Ship-like monuments were also erected during the early Bronze Age, from around 1100-400 BCE, but they had a slightly different form than the Vikings.
Ales Stenar or Ale Stenar are ancient stone ship monuments located in the old fishing village Kåseberga in Sweden (Österlen outside Ystad in Skåne). The stone ship consists of 59 stones, each weighing around 1.8 tonnes. The entire stone ship is about 67 meters long and 19 meters wide and is the largest width. It is located 32 meters above sea level on Kåsehuvud, overlooking the craggy coast and the island of Bornholm.
Vikings, from the Old Norse Vikings, were sea warriors, mainly from existing Nordic countries (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Island), which participated in boat looting and viking war expeditions in Europe and western Asia from 793 until the 1100s, that is, during the late Iron Age period, also known as the Viking Age. The Vikings also conducted extensive trade.
The stone ship built during the Vendel Period, but burials sites found that it may also have taken place earlier in the Iron Age. This belief is based on that the stones are not close to each other as they do in the Bronze Age stone ships. It is also based on the six carbon-14 dating of organic remains unearthed in and around the ship, including in some of the stones, all located within the range of 400-900 AD, according to studies carried out under the 1980s and 1990s. A seventh carbon-14 dating has been funded by a private investigator, and was made of coal from a fireplace excavated outside the northwestern stem stone. This sample was found to be 5300-5600 years old, suggesting that the site was inhabited long before the stone ship was built.
The function of the Iron Age stone ships is somewhat unclear, but the stones are generally regarded as grave monuments. Often it is about the cremation graves with an urn full of burnt bones buried somewhere in the stone circle. In the case of Ales Stenar (Ale Stenar) have no tombs identified, but the facility has not yet been excavated completely. In 1916, 40 fallen stones were erected, in some cases, without knowing if the positions were the original, and the monument was badly damaged during the removal of sand. The monument was again rough restored in the 1950s without archaeological investigation, then the soil was carried away and sand was leveled with a bulldozer.

How to Sweden || Ales Stenar
Today we travel to Ales Stenar in Skåne (south of sweden, close to Ystad).
No script today and I'm rather sick as well. Maybe not the most brilliant video so far, but I struggled with the vlogging and wanted to use at least SOME of the material I'd collected. My cold muffles some parts and I really recommend using the subtitle, so you don't miss out on anything.

Ales Stenar, Sweden ~ Neolithic Tomb & Viking Stone Ship?
By request. Ales Stenar, a stone ship formation that appears to be from a Viking origin next to a neolithic dolmen perhaps 5,500+ years old. Some call this Sweden's Stonehenge. No firm answers here....so I do a report on this mysterious site on the southern tip of Sweden.
Any comments about what is discussed here would be appreciated.
