Walking from Alexanderplatz to Potsdamer Platz, Berlin - Germany 4K Travel Channel
When we arrive at Alexanderplatz, the first spring sunshine awaits us. We watch the life a little, but stay only briefly. On the way to Nikolai quarter we pass the Red City Hall, the seat of the Berlin Senate and the Governing Mayor of Berlin. The back is determined by the Molkenmarkt, the large surface area determines the construction process. To the left is the Local Court of Berlin-Mitte. Right besides, the old town hall which was built as an extension of the city hall. The Nikolaiviertel is to the right.
The Nikolaiviertel is regarded as one of the oldest quarters of Berlin. In the 2nd World War it was destroyed almost completely in bomb raids and street fights. For the 750th anniversary of Berlin in 1987, the quarter was rebuilt. The St. Nicholas' Church with the Wappenbrunnen (foundation fountain) to commemorate the founding of Berlin, give the impression of an idyllic medieval city, although no building is older than 40 years.
The Ephraim-Palais with its extensive gold ornamentation was built by Veitel Heine Ephraim. He was a financier of the wars of Frederick II. By inferior coins he scored high profits, but contributed to a sharp rise in inflation.
During reconstruction, the building was constructed using original parts, 12 m from the original site. Today it is a museum and part of the Berlin City Museum Foundation.
The Mühlendammschleuse combines the original settlements Coelln (the oldest part of the city of Berlin) and Nikolai. Built as dam, it was later rebuilt to mills that grind grain. Later, sawmills were built. In the 16th century the sluiceway was set up. It allows the sailing around of the mills in the Spree. Due to the ever-growing ships and increasing ship traffic the Mühlendammschleuse was built around 1894. Today's double sluice was set up in 1936.
In 1688, the square was created according to plans of Johann Arnold Nering in the middle of Friedrichstadt. Elector Friedrich III., the later King Frederick I settled the French immigrants (huguenots) who had fled before the French revolution, here.

Alexanderplatz Berlin, Germany
Alexanderplatz is a public square and transport hub in the middle of Berlin, Germany. It is right next to the Berlin Fernsehturm (Berlin TV tower).
Berlin Alexanderplatz: S-Bahn, Underground, Tram at night
Today we are in Berlin at Alexanderplatz, which is the former East German city centre. Alexanderplatz is a rather large square quite close to Berlin’s famous Television Tower, and it is a busy public transport hub, connecting regional trains, S-Bahn, underground (U-Bahn), and tram services.
In this film we visit Alexanderplatz on a cold February night and take a close look at the available public transport options.
We start outside on the square, which is crossed by four tram lines: M2, M4, M5, and M6. After observing a few of them, including one formed of Czech Tatra KT4D stock, the film turns towards the elevated mainline railway station, which is served by S-Bahn lines S5, S7, and S75. Some regional train services also stop at this station.
In the second part of the film we move underground. After a few shots of the pedestrian subways connecting the platforms of the different underground lines, we start with the underground line U2. This line is part of the small profile network, which uses smaller trains than the other lines at this station. From here we go onwards to the platforms of line U5, which have an unusually high ceiling. U5, part of the large profile network, terminates at Alexanderplatz station and serves several eastern districts of the city. After U5, we take a look at the platforms of U8, which is a north-south underground line, also part of the large profile network.
While the S-Bahn lines running here are solely operated with new-ish Class 481 stock, the underground has a nice mix of old and new rolling stock.
Enjoy!

The Dom is the parish church of the congregation Gemeinde der Oberpfarr- und Domkirche zu Berlin, a member of the umbrella organisation Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia. The term Dom denotes a collegiate church (equivalent to the Italian duomo, or the English Minster); however, as most cathedrals are also collegiate churches, the term Dom has become the common term for a cathedral in German, though they are not synonymous. Berlin Cathedral has never been a cathedral in the actual sense of that term since it has never been the seat of a bishop.
The bishop of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg (under this name 1945–2003) is based at St. Mary's Church and Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin. Berlin walking, cathedral to Alexanderplatz berlin.
