Visiting Italy is an amazing experience whether you are seeing the Roman ruins throughout the country in places like Rome or Naples, but for all the amazing things you should do in Italy (visit Venice, Florence, Rome, Ravenna, Amalfi Coast, eat until you explode) there are things you DON'T DO when you come to Italy & Here are our 12 things NOT TO DO in Italy when you are traveling Italy.

The Don'ts of Italy
1. Don't expect to get discount prices on fancy Italian luxury brands.
2. Don't eat near tourist sights. You will be ripped off and not get as good of Italian food as you would away from the tourist sights.
3. Don't Tip. They already charge you for service.
4. You Don't have to scream louder to get people to understand you.
5. Don't worry about overdressing, the Italians will always look better than you.
6. Don't just visit Rome and Venice, there is so much more to Italy.
7. Don't share your pizza and make sure you do eat it with your fork and knife.
8. Don't use the fast trains for short distances, they are not worth the significantly higher prices.
9. Don't expect to see spaghetti and meatballs on the menu TOGETHER. They will be there separately, but not together.
10. Don't expect a big breakfast in Italy. Just coffee and a cookie.
11. Don't overpack. You will be limited on space when traveling in Italy so pack accordingly.
12. Don't expect to be served food in a restaurant between 3pm and 7pm.

ROAD TRIP IN ITALY! (Rome to Amalfi Coast)
Went on a roadtrip from Rome to Amalfi Coast, Italy few weeks ago with my friends and I did not expect the roads to be as crazy! Took a train from Rome to Naples and rented out two SUV's for 500 Euros each for 6 days so that we can drive around Amalfi coast and you'll find out how to get to areas like Pompeii, Ravello, Sorrento and Positano. Traveling around Italy can be expensive but I highly suggest for you to buy your food in grocery stores to save a lot of money. I really travel on a budget but there are times that I really have no choice but to spend on transportation, accommodation and food. I also got a lot of questions on how to drive in Europe; all you need is your driver's license and passport at all times when driving and you're only allowed to drive for 3 months. If you wish to drive for 1 year in Europe, you can apply for an International drivers license in your country before leaving.

*Differences Between Regional and Long Distance Trains in Italy*
First off, there are two types of trains: One that goes long distances using the high speed rail, like going from Rome to Florence.
The other train is the regional trains. These go shorter distances like Milan to Como.
*How to Book a Regional Train in Italy*
Example train routes:
Milan to Como
Florence to Pisa
- The Regional trains don’t need to be bought in advance.
- Once you’re at the station there will be ticket machines to purchase the tickets.
- The prices are fixed so it isn’t cheaper if you buy in advance. There are no assigned seats so if you want a seat get on the train right when it arrives.
- Also don’t forget to validate your train ticket before hopping on. If you don’t do this, you’ll get fined!
The regional trains make it super easy to do little short one day trips to another city.
*How to Book a Long Distance Train in Italy*
The below is the cheapest and easiest method to book a long distance train from two cities such as Venice to Florence.
- All seats on these trains are reserved.
- I found that buying my ticket from Italiarail.com was the easiest to use. Some say it could be cheaper if you are buying two or more tickets. I’ve looked on other sites and it was the cheapest I could find at the time.
- The website charges a small service fee of 3.50 euros per transaction. HOWEVER, if you book it with Seat61.com, you can email them afterward to get the service fee refunded.
Here is a list some other sites you could compare prices with:

If you are traveling with two people I suggest getting seats facing each other on the side.
* The Difference Between First and Second Class Seating*
Standard seating:
- Decent space to put luggage
- Cloth seats
- Comfortable
First Class seating:
- 25 euros more/person on avg.
- Leather seats
- A bit more leg room
- Free drink and snack
- Extra room for large luggage
Overall, I don’t think it’s worth the extra cost.
*Common Italian Train Station Names (Translated English to Italian)*
Rome: Stazione Terimini
Venice: Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia
Florence: Firenze Santa Maria Novella
Milan: Milano Centrale
For Rome the main station you should take is Station Termini because it is walking distance to all the sights. Roma Ostiense and Roma Triburtina stations are all on the outskirts of the city so you would have to take a local train or taxi into the city center.
Here are how long the train takes from one city to the next:
Rome to Florence 1 hour and 32 minutes
Venice to Florence takes 2 hours and 5 minutes
Florence to Milan takes 1 hour and 41 minutes

Rome - City Video Guide
Italy's capital city, Rome was once the center of the Roman Empire and known as Caput Mundi: The Capital of the World.
The foundations of ancient Rome were laid on Palatine Hill, the city's birthplace. Below, monuments such as the Temple of Saturn and the Arch of Septimius are preserved in the Roman Forum, while the Colosseum remains the city's most enduring symbol.
Masterpieces by Bernini, Giotto, and Raphael can be seen at St. Peter's Basilica, the world's largest church, located in the grand surroundings of Piazza Saint Pietro within the Vatican City.
Once a stadium, Piazza Navona is another of Rome's great squares, now home to a trio of fountains, Baroque architecture and the aroma of Rome's best coffee. The Spanish Steps are another magnet for artists and lovers.
No visit to the 'Eternal City' is complete without making a wish at the nearby Trevi Fountain. Toss a coin into the Trevi, and one day you're sure to return to Rome.

Italy Cool Facts - Fun Facts About This Sunny Country!
Italy is one seriously interesting country, from the Ancient Romans, their awesome food, their super speedy cars and an entirely independent state that sits within Italy itself.
Fact #1. The she-wolf legend of Romulus and Remus! There is a myth that the city of Rome was founded on 21st April 753 B.C. by two brothers named Romulus and Remus. Now the legend says that they were raised in a cave by a she-wolf!
Fact #2. The Roman Empire. At the height of the Roman Empire in A.D. 117, the area the Romans had conquered stretched from Portugal to Syria to Britain to North Africa.
It covered 2.3 million miles (3.7 million kilometers); that’s about the same size as India and it’s about one third the size of the whole of the U.S. That is one seriously large area to rule over!
Fact #3. Italian History. In the 12th century, Italy was filled with loads of different areas that were ruled by foreigners. The Italians had enough so they decided to reclaim their land!
They fought back in 1859 and eventually kicked all the foreigners out. In 1861 the Kingdom of Italy was born and it was all theirs!
Fact #4. Mussolini. In 1914, Italy sided with the UK and the US in World War I, but unfortunately they were left with hardly anything at the end of the war. A new leader came into town called Benito Mussolini.
He was no man to have a chat on the side of the road with, he was a fierce dictator! Luckily we don’t live in those times where we might have come across him!
In the Second World War, he sided with Germany and Japan, but was later captured and executed.
Fact #5. Italian words. Now how is this for interesting! In the 1930s and 40s Mussolini tried to get rid of all foreign words from the Italian language. So what did he do?
Well he changed them of course. In soccer, ‘goal’ became ‘meta’ and Donald Duck became ‘Paperino’. Mickey Mouse became ‘Topolino’ and Goofy became ‘Pippo’.
Although they’re not banned anymore, these words have stuck. So if you’re going to Disney Land you’re going to see Topolino and Pippo!
Fact #6. Ever hear of the Renaissance? Well it was a period in time when great artists, poets, painters, architects, scientists, mathematicians and thinkers came alive and it all started in none other than Italy.
Think Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Galileo Galilei, Alessandro Volta, Fibonacci and Donatello, who were all part of this amazing period in time.
Fact #7. Architecture. Italy is known for the super cool buildings and their building techniques. They’ve built amazing like the Colosseum, Pantheon and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. These buildings are unique in every way!
Venice is also one of the most popular cities for tourists worldwide – I am sure you have heard of Venice before. It is very unlike most cities, as you can see below!
Fact #8. Italian inventions. The Italians have had their fair share of inventions including the thermometer, the electric battery, the piano, the barometer, nitroglycerin, espresso machine, typewriter, eye glasses, the ice-cream cone, the violin and the cello and wireless telegraphy.
Also, the inventor of the nuclear reactor was an Italian. They seem pretty smart in this part of the world.
Fact #9. The Vatican City.How is this for an amazing fact? The Vatican City is the only nation in the world that can lock its own gates at night. It has its own phone company, radio, T.V. stations, money, and stamps.
It even has its own army, the historic Swiss Guard. For such a small place, that’s unbelievable.
