BEARS at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge
We're back at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina for another day of bear hunting – no, no, not hunting them to kill them, but to watch them live. This time we got up before our eyes were fully open and headed out to catch them when they were most active.
And they were very active indeed, going into the woods and out of the woods and across the woods and through the cornfields as if they were acting out the lyrics to a song. Our patience was rewarded on this, our second day of trying to spot them doing their thing.
Episode #55 ; Filmed: July 24th, 2019

Seeking a life full of adventure and unique experiences the Gozas are on the Go! In 1992 we sold our house in San Francisco and took the show on the road. We've been in perpetual motion both on stage and off ever since. Having raised our son while traveling fulltime we are now empty-nesters with no intention of ever settling down or stopping in any one spot for more that a day or two. With this channel we hope people like you are inspired to live more and work less.
Currently Dennis and Kimberly are touring the USA in a small RV pulling all their sets, costumes and props for their Act!vated Story Theatre shows in a small trailer behind them.

People from all over the country now come to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in search of birds. At the William B. Umstead Memorial (“Old Manns Harbor”) Bridge each year you can find a Purple Martin Roost with over 100,000 birds and in the fall the local folks put on the Wings Over Water Festival. Barred Owl Roost Camping Platform Review - Roanoke River National Wildlife Refuge- Jamesville NC
For more video of Barred Owl Roost and canoeing on the Roanoke River go here:
Recently we had the amazing opportunity to canoe up the Roanoke River to Barred Owl Roost Camping Platform, a nature preserve in Eastern NC. It was everything you'd imagine camping in the middle of a swamp couple be plus so much much more! We had a great time and did a lot of canoeing and fishing on the Roanoke River!
ABOUT BARRED OWL ROOST:
Barred Owl Roost is located at the back of Lower Deadwater Creek off Devil's Gut, about 3 miles up from Jamesville and about 5 3/4 miles from the Roberson's Marina on Gardner's Creek. The platform is only a mile up from a new NC Wildlife boat ramp and fishing pier near Jamesville. The 20' x 20' platform is large enough to hold six paddling campers and their tents. The cantilevered, wooden deck is supported over rich, brown swamp water by pilings. This platform was built completely with volunteer labor!

Bear at Alligator Wildlife Refuge, North Carolina
I decided to go to Alligator National Wildlife Refuge at dawn this morning. I was filming a bear and 3 deer off in the distance when a large black movement caught my attention down the road from me. This LARGE black bear walked down the road towards me.. It started to go off into the bush when I guess it decided I was not a threat so it continued towards me. At the very end you can see it snarl up it's mouth I assume as a warning and then it went off into the bush 20 feet from my vehicle
My tips.. get there at very very early dawn.. Actually before the sun rises. and stay in your car!!
Repairing the Alligator River Bridge
The Alligator River Bridge is currently closed to allow crews to rehabilitate the equipment that opens the swing bridge, so boats can travel safely through the area. This video shows the parts that crews are replacing and explains why the repairs are needed.

Driving Time-Lapse: U.S. Highway 64 East/West (OBX) - June 5th, 2015
A time-lapse of driving a stretch of U.S. Highway 64 that connects the North Carolina mainland to the Outer Banks. If driving toward the OBX, then you cross over three large, long bridges that cross the Alligator River and Croatan Sound, in that order. It is a very scenic drive, and I would highly recommended taking a vacation to the Outer Banks. Don't let the sharks drive you away!
