Harvest is in full swing in California wine country. We just returned from an incredible shoot there! You'll soon start seeing some of our adventures on Goodtaste.tv here, but I wanted to tell you about a unexpected bit of fun.
Some friends of ours actually harvested the grapes from their vineyards while we were there--a small production, probably no more than about 20 cases. Talk about an exciting time!
Because their production is small, like many wine producers in the valley, they employ the services of a mobile bottling system. It's actually a large semi-truck that pulls up to the winery or grape crushing facility, and it has everything you need to transform your barrels of wine into bottles complete with corks and labels.
It was quite fascinating to watch...and quite fast! You can see it right here.

Behind the Wine: Amici Cellars
In 1991, a group of friends with a passion for good wine crushed a few tons of grapes in Napa Valley for their personal cellars. Their creation received such outstanding accolades that the friends started producing wine to share with others. Appropriately named, Amici means “friends” in Italian and the Amici team are just that – a band of friends, closely collaborating to produce highly rated, handcrafted wines.

Napa Valley's Brasswood Estate: Wine, Food, Art & Lifestyle
888 282-1353
Napa Valley is world-renowned for having some of the finest destinations for wine, food and art. But until now, none of it was in one location. Meet Brasswood Estate.
General Manager Marcus Marquez shares with us the lifestyle destination that is Brasswood. The Estate was created through passion and represents a true destination spot where you can relax and take “the St. Helena lifestyle seriously”.
The 57-acre property in St. Helena, centered around many legendary winemakers, is designed in a fashion where you can start your day there – grab something from the bakery, then stay for the artwork, impeccable grounds, meal at the restaurant and sensory wine education.
Winemaking is led by Stacia Williams, with consulting winemaker and neighbor, Angelina Mondavi on board. Making wine since she was 10 years old, Angelina is a perfect compliment to Stacia’s style. She also makes wine on the property with her two direct to consumer brands, Dark Matter and Aloft.
Brasswood also has impressive portfolio clients, as they are one of the most state of the art wineries in Napa Valley right now, including 17,000 square feet of caves and a living roof that helps control the energy to create an environment for high quality wines. Others making wine at the facility include Phillipe Melka, Russell Bevan and Timothy Milos.
From start to finish, nothing has been overlooked at Brasswood. The attention to detail is off the charts, and from a lifestyle destination location, there’s nothing like it in Napa Valley. Fine wine, exceptional dining, amazing artwork and gorgeous grounds that you have to experience! Learn more:

How To Taste Wine With Mira Winery
Find out how to taste wine like a pro, courtesy of Mira Winery, at the Mira Winery Napa Valley Education Center & Tasting Room in Charleston, S.C.
To learn more about the Napa Valley Education Center & Tasting Room in Charleston, S.C., visit:
First, make sure you're in a quiet room free of distractions. Everything can affect the taste of wine, so make sure there are no loud noises or crowds around you. Smells can also alter the taste of the wine, so make sure there are no strong cooking or perfume smells wafting into your space.
The temperature of the wine matters! Make sure you're serving at the right temperature. To find out what that is, check out our blog post on the topic:
Second, give your wine a good swirl. This allows some oxygen into the wine and releases its natural aromas. Give it a series of quick, short sniffs. These steps will help you evaluate the wine by sight and smell, allow you to identify what kind of wine it is, and potentially predict what it will taste like.
Next, it's time to taste! Take a small sip and let it linger in your mouth. Roll the wine around to your mouth and pay attention to how it feels. Then, swallow and feel the wine running through your body.
Thanks for joining us today. We hope our guide on how to taste wine was useful.
For more, visit The Napa Valley Education Center & Tasting Room, which provides unique access to the wine industry through educational and tasting programs, and the opportunity to experience Napa Valley and the world of winemaking through interactive displays, wine club member EduTastings, videos, and a series of classes.
