NEW JERSEY — The Nobel Prize-winning mathematician who served as inspiration for the Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind, died in a car crash along with his wife, according to sources citing New Jersey State Police.
John Nash and his wife, Alicia, were travelling home in a taxi along the New Jersey turnpike after having returned from a trip to Norway on Saturday, according to NJ.com.
The driver of their taxi reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake another car and crashed into the guard rail.
The couple, who are believed to have not been wearing seatbelts, were ejected from the car and were pronounced dead at the scene.
No charges have yet been filed and an investigation into the exact cause of the fatal accident is ongoing, according to CNN.
Both the taxi driver and a passenger in the other vehicle sustained injuries. The driver, identified as Tarek Girgis, was flown to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. After complaining of neck pain, the unidentified passenger was transported by ground to a separate hospital.
Widely known for his breakthrough work in game theory as well as his struggles with schizophrenia, Nash served as a senior research mathematician at Princeton at the time of his death. He was 86.
Both he and his 82-year-old wife have more recently been recognized as advocates for better mental health care services.
Stunned...my heart goes out to John & Alicia & family, wrote Russell Crowe, who portrayed Nash in 2001's A Beautiful Mind, in a tweet on Sunday. An amazing partnership. Beautiful minds, beautiful hearts.

Scientist Albert Einstein Unseen Childhood Exclusive Video
Albert Einstein was born at Ulm, in Württemberg, Germany, on March 14, 1879. Six weeks later the family moved to Munich, where he later on began his schooling at the Luitpold Gymnasium. Later, they moved to Italy and Albert continued his education at Aarau, Switzerland and in 1896 he entered the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich to be trained as a teacher in physics and mathematics. In 1901, the year he gained his diploma, he acquired Swiss citizenship and, as he was unable to find a teaching post, he accepted a position as technical assistant in the Swiss Patent Office. In 1905 he obtained his doctor's degree. During his stay at the Patent Office, and in his spare time, he produced much of his remarkable work and in 1908 he was appointed Privatdozent in Berne. In 1909 he became Professor Extraordinary at Zurich, in 1911 Professor of Theoretical Physics at Prague, returning to Zurich in the following year to fill a similar post. In 1914 he was appointed Director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Physical Institute and Professor in the University of Berlin. He became a German citizen in 1914 and remained in Berlin until 1933 when he renounced his citizenship for political reasons and emigrated to America to take the position of Professor of Theoretical Physics at Princeton*. He became a United States citizen in 1940 and retired from his post in 1945. After World War II, Einstein was a leading figure in the World Government Movement, he was offered the Presidency of the State of Israel, which he declined, and he collaborated with Dr. Chaim Weizmann in establishing the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
~ Einstein Quotes ~
As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.
The only way to escape the corruptible effect of praise is to go on working.
As a human being, one has been endowed with just enough intelligence to be able to see clearly how utterly inadequate that intelligence is when confronted with what exists.
Most teachers waste their time by asking questions that are intended to discover what a pupil does not know, whereas the true art of questioning is to discover what the pupil does know or is capable of knowing.
