Les Gold is the central figure in the reality television show Hardcore Pawn and stumbled upon his fame in an unusual manner. Gold is the grandson of the the owner of Sam's Loans pawnshop that has been located in Detroit, Michigan for many years. His father also operated the same pawn shop for many years before going into the jewelry business. Gold came to the attention of a reality television show producer by seeing his pawn shop commercials on a local Detroit station and the idea for Hardcore Pawn was developed. Gold has since become famous on the truTV network for his reality show.
Gold is a typical family business man who has found a niche for himself in the reality television industry by filming daily operations at his pawn shop in Detroit. Detroit is one of the most depressed economic regions of the United States, and there is a wide range of items that may be brought to a pawn shop for evaluation. All of his children work in some capacity at the shop, but Gold's son Seth is also a partner in the reality show production that has skyrocketed in popularity during the past two seasons.
Les Gold's estimated net worth is estimated currently at $1.5 million, but his television series is airing regularly and only looks to increase in ratings as the show progresses.

On January 14, 2018 at approximately 11:50 p.m. in the 11600 block of McNichols, the
Driver of a white Oldsmobile Valero pulled into the gas station with two occupants, to
get air for his tire. While there, he was approached by two suspects who attempted to
buy marijuana. One of the suspects then enter his vehicle, while the other one
remained outside. After a brief moment, the suspect exit the vehicle, approach suspect
2 and began talking. Shortly afterwards, both suspects’ produce a weapon and began
shooting at the driver and occupants of the vehicle, striking one of the occupants as he
ran. As a result, the 26-year old male victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the
body. No other injuries reported.
