Tashkent (Tashkent, city of stone)
Tashkent, ex-Soviet Central Asia’s largest city (pop. 4,5 million), does not get a lot of love from the traveling community. With its monumental city planning and endless traffic jams, Tashkent fails to live up to the image of Uzbekistan conjured up in tourist brochures focused on Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva.
If you are entering and leaving Uzbekistan through Tashkent, we recommend you get out of the city soon after your arrival. Tashkent is best visited on the way back, when you might care to eat something other than plov and somsa and might actually even welcome a bit of big-city buzz; in this respect Tashkent serves as a halfway house between your holiday experience and the world back home.
Also, the museums make more sense after you have visited the places where the art came from.
History: It does not seem so at first sight, but Tashkent is an old city. A fertile oasis fed by the Chirchik river, bringing meltwater from the Tien Shan mountains nearby, settlement probably started more than 2000 years ago. Once called Chach, then Shash, the city got its current, Turkic name from its Karakhanid rulers in the 10th century:
Half a century later Tashkent still retains much of that Soviet spirit. Broad avenues lined by oak trees take aim for imposing solitary buildings in manicured surroundings. Although many Russians and Jews left after independence, people with roots from all across Eurasia can still be seen knocking melons and squeezing tomatoes at the bazaar. A sense of forced peacefulness and security are pervasive amidst the gentle splash of fountains.

Amir Timur Museum in Tashkent, Uzbekistan houses artifacts relating to the life and achievements of the great Turkic conquerer, Amir Timur, who conquered West, Central and South Asia in the 15th century.
The Museum is incredibly beautiful and majestic, though photography within its premises require a separate fee (its worth the extra soms though!).
Some scenes of Uzbekistan's beautiful capital city, Tashkent, is also highlighted in this short video. Enjoy!

Timur was a Turco-Mongol conqueror. As the founder of the Timurid Empire in Persia and Central Asia, he became the first ruler in the Timurid dynasty. According to John Joseph Saunders, Timur was the product of an islamized and iranized society, and not steppe nomadic.
Timur is regarded as a military genius and as a brilliant tactician with an uncanny ability to work within a highly fluid political structure to win and maintain a loyal following of nomads during his rule in Central Asia. He was also considered extraordinarily intelligent – not only intuitively but also intellectually. In Samarkand and his many travels, Timur, under the guidance of distinguished scholars, was able to learn the Persian, Mongolian, and Turkish languages (according to Ahmad ibn Arabshah, Timur could not speak Arabic). More importantly, Timur was characterized as an opportunist. Taking advantage of his Turco-Mongolian heritage, Timur frequently used either the Islamic religion or the law and traditions of the Mongol Empire to achieve his military goals or domestic political aims.[11] Timur was a learned king, and enjoyed the company of scholars; he was tolerant and generous to them. He was a contemporary of the Persian poet Hafez, and a story of their meeting explains that Timur summoned Hafiz, who had written a ghazal with the following verse:
For the black mole on thy cheek
I would give the cities of Samarkand and Bukhara.

TASHKENT INDEPENDENCE SQUARE UZBEKISTAN (Mustakillik Square)- MUST VISIT UZBEKISTAN
Functioning as Tashkent’s central square, Mustaqillik Maydoni (Uzbek for “Independence Square”) roughly defines the epicenter of popular political activities in the city and therefore the country. I visited at the beginning and end of my trip with both visits occurring off-season and during the day with minimal activity in the area.
The entry to the square is bracketed by a monument showing three storks in the center, I believe representing the transition (i.e. carrying) of the nation into a new age. Through the gate there is a large statue of a mother holding a child with a globe above her showing an outline of the country at the front (I'll leave it up to the reader to figure out the symbolism for that :). In front of that figure lies Paradlar Alleyasi, the main parade route that is impressive even when its empty. Traveling north one sees the moving “Crying Mother” monument, a symbol of the sacrifice that 400,000 Uzbeks made in the Second World War. The park as a whole was very clean, well attended to, and adequately policed.
One needs a thorough guidebook (or even better, a good guide) to understand some of the references here but I found the experience central to understanding the metamorphosis of the modern country from the Soviet state. The war monument in particular was quite moving, making the time spent here worthwhile based on that alone. Overall this was a quick, meaningful, and free attraction that should be an integral part of any time spent in Tashkent.

Сквер имени Амира Темура – центр нового Ташкента, в котором возвышается памятник Амиру Темуру - выдающемуся политическому деятелю и полководцу средних веков, создавшему огромную империю, протянувшуюся от Кавказа до Китая и от Сибири до Индии, просуществовавшую 200 лет в XIV-XV вв. Надпись на постаменте гласит: «Сила в справедливости» на четырех языках.
Сквер представляет собой радиально-кольцевую систему из 8 аллей, которые дают начало такому же количеству улиц, ориентированных по частям света и веером расходящихся от памятника Амиру Темуру, пересекаясь с кольцевыми улицами в центре города.
Сквер окружает ряд известных строений, таких как высотная гостиница Узбекистан, Государственный музей истории Темуридов, два старинных кирпичных здания Юридического Университета, построенных в конце XIX века и знаменитые куранты.
В ноябре 2009 года была произведена реконструкция сквера Амира Темура. Был построен Дворец Форумов Узбекистан, который стал главным местом для проведения различных мероприятий, в том числе и в рамках деятельности различных международных организаций, таких как Азиатский Банк Развития, Шанхайская Организация Сотрудничества и другие.
Площадь здания составляет более 9,5 тыс. кв. м. Дворец форумов стал одним из крупнейших сооружений подобного рода в столице. Внутри него разместились три зала: один на 2200 и два на 300 мест каждый. Но самое главное, Дворец форумов Узбекистан поражает не только своими габаритами, но и великолепным внешним видом. Его фасад украшает колоннада, а увенчивает здание огромный купол высотой 48 метров со скульптурой аистов на самой вершине. Для внешней отделки использовалось стекло и мрамор. На прилегающей территории создана зеленая зона из цветников, газонов и деревьев.
На месте старой гостиницы «Пойтахт» построено новое административное здание в архитектуре XIX века, которое органично вписалось в общий архитектурный ансамбль.

UZBEKISTAN | Exploring the Tombs of Amir Temur | Samarkand
Have you ever explored the ancient tombs of a historical figure? On this trip I explored the tombs of Amir Timur and his spouses. The colors and architecture here in Samakand are one of a kind for sure! I traveled to Uzbekistan along with many other content creators for the World Influencers Congress in order to showcase some of what Uzbekistan has to offer. The country has recently opened upon its borders to the world and it was amazing to see this country before the tourists hit. Which I'm sure they will since this country is incredible! If its not on your bucket list it definitely should be. I definitely recommend you eat the Plov (at every meal) take in the unique buildings, and experience the rich culture of Uzbekistan for yourself.

The street of the Tashkent Broadway is called Sayilgoh. It unites the two most important and beautiful squares of the capital: Amir Temur Square and Mustakillik (Independence) Square. Tashkent's Broadway is perhaps the most favorite holiday destination among the urban population.
