Donati Family Vineyard, Another Discovery from The California Wine Club
Although their winery and tasting room are in Paso Robles, The Donati Family Estate Vineyard is in Paicines (pronounced ‘Pie-seen-ness’) which was California’s ninth appellation. Vines thrive here, enjoying long, warm days followed by cool nights and cooling ocean breezes from the Monterey Bay. “It’s a lot cooler than people think,” notes Ron Donati. “On the UC Davis scale of growing areas and heat, Paicines is a cool Region II.” Donati red wines are known for their intensity, and our featured Cabernet was allowed to reach temperatures of up to 85°F during ferment to extract color and flavors. The wine then aged a long 26 months in barrel before being bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve natural flavors and aromas.
