Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge
Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge
The Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge provides excellent opportunities to capture images of alligators, waterfowl and many other species while also offering peace and quiet away from civilization. I will say that I saw some people with a camera that looked almost as big as Josh and others hiding in the grass in camouflage waiting on birds.
You can fish there, as well as do boating and hunting, but you'd better get with the Rangers if you don't know the park rules and law before entering.
Josh and Tiki Macaw were along for the fun as usual as we saw alligators and a wide variety of animals and birds.
Anahuac NWR shares its name with the town of Anahuac that comes from the Anahuaconian Indians. The marshes and prairies are a host or even temporary home to an abundance of wildlife, from migratory birds, to alligators, to bobcats, and more.
This area isn't far from the town of Anahuac which is located on the east side of the Trinity River near the north shore of Galveston Bay. This was once a vital area astride the trade route between Mexico and Louisiana, and from there to the rest of the United States. In new attempts to curtail smuggling and enforce customs tariffs from the coastal settlements, Mexico placed a garrison there after 1830 and it was one of the direct factors leading to protests against Mexico as American settlers came into conflict with Mexican military officers, and rose up against them.

Trip to Anahuac 2013 (Documentary)
A group of people embarked on a journey for a week to Mexico to learn and experience the legacy of Mesoamerica.
About the Trip Mission:
There is a growing number of first and second generation under-served immigrants from southern and northern native America and Mexico who struggle to adapt to the typical American lifestyle. Some of the obvious struggles and challenges include color of skin, social-economic differences, identity, discriminatory confrontations which sometimes include violence, and simple culture shock. There is confusion about who they are not only at home, but in society. The result when frustration hits its boiling point is school dropout, drug and alcohol abuse, criminal activity and unplanned pregnancies.
What we do:
EXPOSE: Educational trips for students to Mexico City and the Pyramids of Teotihuacan (Tenochtitlan and Teotihuacan) for one week to learn the tools and heritage of the wellspring for Mesoamerican thought, knowledge, philosophy and science- which flourished for thousands of years before contact with the white race.
TEACH: Curriculum will be standard-based, focusing on scientific methods and reasoning in the English language.
EVALUATE: We will enhance the evidence of success by collecting pre- and post- survey data that pertains to students' and teachers' concepts of identities. Each participant will be expected to write a case study report on their knowledge and experiences acquired and
present it at a public and/or presentation for their peers during the next school year.
OUTCOME: The experience will inspire students and allow them to bloom as a result of a well-rounded identity, based in their ancestral roots, encouraging them to feel passionate to follow the educational pathway offered by United States colleges and vocational schools.

Incredible waterfront ranch less than one hour from downtown Houston. The ranch has nearly 6,000p of frontage on the West Fork of the Double Bayou which is a deep navigable waterfront that leads directly to Trinity Bay. Cross fenced property with three homes on well landscaped waterfront with 600p of bulkhead and three lighted fishing docks. Terrific get away from Houston in a very private setting. Excellent long term investment with so much navigable water frontage that could be further developed.
Location: The ranch has 1,800 feet of road frontage on Jobe Wilson Road. It is located less than 11 miles from I-10 and 4 miles south of Anahuac. Chambers County airport is also only 10 minutes away (6,000p airstrip).
Habitat: The ranch is a mix of improved pastures and heavy woods. Currently the property is used for hay cutting but would make a great cattle or horse property. The woods include large stands of mixed pines, oaks and elms. There is also a year-round creek that flows through the middle of the property which is surrounded by large pines and oaks.
Wildlife: White-tailed deer are abundant on the property. Hunting in this area is excellent. Plenty of other wildlife including eagles and ospreys which make the bayou there home in the winter months. Dove hunting in this area can be excellent as well with nearby agriculture fields.
The one acre pond is stocked with largemouth bass and is terrific fishing. The bayou is excellent fishing for both saltwater species such as redfish, speckled trout and founder during times of lower runoff and freshwater species such as bass, catfish and crappie during dryer times.
Improvements: There are 3 homes on the ; a 3/2 1920s updated ranch home, a 2200 sf 5/3 manufactured home, and another 3/2 1500sf manufactured home. All homes have wrap around covered porches and have been recently updated.
600p feet of the 6,000p of the bayou frontage has been bulkheaded and includes three lighted fishing piers and a boat launch. There is an enclosed barn and the sale will include boats, jet skis, four wheelers, horses, tractors and other equipment. A real turnkey operation.
The entire pasture has been extensively cross-fenced and designed for cattle, hay cutting or running horses.
Water: 6,000p of frontage on the West Fork of Double Bayou. This bayou is deep and wide and allows boat access to Trinity Bay. The boat ride to the bay is less than 20 minutes for great access to water sports and fishing.
There is a one acre pond in front of the houses designed as a fishing and swimming hole with a dock and pavilion overlooking the lake.
The homes are watered by a water well. Groundwater here is good and easily accessible.
Electricity: Available on the ranch.
Minerals: No minerals convey with the sale of the ranch. There is no production. This is an excellent private waterfront retreat with great boating, fishing, and hunting.

Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge
Clarks River Wildlife Refuge in Marshall County, Kentucky, is a place of hidden beauties. Small parcels of land have been cobbled together to create a 7,000 acre home for wildlife that might otherwise vanish from Kentucky. Animals, large and small, roam this bottomland hardwood forest, making surprise appearances to visitors. The staff at Clarks River manage the land for the benefit of the animals, as well as the enrichment and education of the people who visit.

SUMMARY
=======
The McFaddin and Texas Point National Wildlife Refuges are located in proximity in southern Jefferson County on the upper Texas coast at Sabine Pass. The refuges have a combined 105.96 square miles (274.4 km2) of fish and wildlife habitat. McFaddin, much the larger one, located at around 29°40′00″N 94°09′00″W, has a total area of 58,861.43 acres (238.20 km²), while the smaller Texas Point, located at around 29°42′00″N 93°53′00″W, has 8,952.02 acres (36.23 km²).Texas Point and McFaddin refuges supply important feeding and resting habitat for migrating and wintering populations of waterfowl using the Central Flyway. Feeding flocks of snow geese have exceeded 70,000 birds at McFaddin.
Dozens of migratory bird species use habitat on both refuges to feed, rest, nest and raise their young. McFaddin contains one of the densest populations of American alligators in Texas. Alligators are most easily seen during the spring, but are often visible throughout the summer and fall.
Mammal species native to Texas include the muskrat, North American river otter, American mink, raccoon, striped skunk, Virginia opossum, nine-banded armadillo, gray fox and bobcat.
Large portions of both refuges are tidally influenced, creating estuarine environments important to a variety of fish, shrimp and crabs, as well as other life forms higher on the food chain that feed on such organisms. These estuaries are productive communities and are vital to the life cycle of many marine species. Some of the more commonly sought after fish found in refuge waters include red drum, flounder, alligator gar and blue catfish.
Located on the coast, Sea Rim State Park borders McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge.
