Andong Maskdance Festival 2016
The Romance of Bachelor nad Bachelorette
[IIJ= Gyeongsangbuk-do Reporter, Euibong Yeo, Boseul Lee] In celebration of 20th year of the festival, Andong Maskdacne Festival 2016 in the theme of 'The Romance of Bachelor and Bachelorette' and the 45th of Andong Folk Festival with passion touched people in all over the world.
In 20th of the fesitval, the special opening ceremony progressed with 'Hybrid Multimedia Show' combined with fabuluous Art Fireworks, fantastic Flying Performance, and state-of-the-art videos in the motif of Bachelor Heo of Hahoe Byeolshin-gut Tal-nori which is the basic of Andong Maskdance Festival.
18 domestic performances including Hahoe Byeolshin-gut Tal-nori and Enyul Maskdance were the best sources to tell Beauty of Korea.
From magnificent and dynamic Turkish dance to 25 foreign performance team from 18 countries including lively vivid Latvian dance, and mysterious Yakutia, they gave special performances.
ASEAN Culture and Tourism Fair, which offered splendid variety of the cultures of 10 countries of ASEAN in a place, played a role to improve the status of Maskdance Festival as the global festival.
The 45th Andong Folk Festival, based on the traditionality only seen in Andong, also contributed a lot to offering various kinds of activities such as traditional marriage, Notdari Bapgi, Chajeon Nori, and so on, which has the traditional beauty, to publicize Andong's image as the traditional and cultural city in and out of Korea.
Yeungsae Gwon, Chair of Andong Festival Tourism Foundation, and Kyungwon Lee, Co-chair of Andong Festival Tourism Foundation, expressed the gratitude to the citizens' interests in the grateful festival during 10 days and said We can see the potential of our festival toward global festival is infinite, and as the matured festival, our festival started to step forward. For the more advancement, let us focus and cooperate together with our wisdom and ability for our festival to compete with other famous global festivals.
Andong Mask Festival
The Andong Mask Dance Festival is a sequence of events that held yearly in the town of Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do province. This event which began as two days event on 1997 turned into a numerous participants event that last for ten days from the end of September to the beginning of October.

Traditional Korean Mask Dance at the Andong Mask Dance Festival 2013
Korea-Turkey 60th Anniversary Turkish Culture Day Event
Checking the status as a global festival and strengthening the international network
[IIJ= Gyeongsangbuk-do Reporter, Euibong Yeo, Boseul Lee] The Andong International Maskdance Festival has been actively promoting programs for foreigners and participating in exchanges with foreign countries, making it a truly global festival.
As this year marks the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Korea and Turkey, the performance of the troupes from Turkey was more meaningful.
Korea and Turkey have promoted their friendly relations by similar race and blood, Turkish participation in the Korean War, friendship in the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, and hosting the Gyeongju-Istanbul Expo in 2015.
The Andong Festivals Tourism Foundation, during the Maskdance Festival of last year, had been engaged in cultural exchange agreements between the two organizations (Andong Festival Tourism Foundation and Bursa Culture & Arts Tourism Foundation).
The Turkish Culture Day event, which was held on the 30th, the next day of the festival, has been held as an extension of festival exchange between the Turkish Bursa Dance Competition and the Andong International Maskdance Festival in Korea.
And in July this year, the delegation of Andong City was invited to the International Dance Competition held in Bursa, Turkey.
During the festival, the Kilic-Kalkan Folklore Bursa team performed Sword and Shield Dancing in Bursa State, Turkey.
Various exchange events between Korea and Turkey are under way, and Andong has prepared this year's program in line with such a national policy.
This event was composed of congratulatory comments from the representatives of both cities, foster singing ceremony between representative festivals, and exchange of representative performance between both countries.
In addition, in the festival site was installed and operated the Turkish Culture Exhibition Hall where we can look into the culture and tourism of Turkey.
Although the language and culture are different, this event, which is a tool of human communication such as mask and mask dance, is expected to contribute to active exchanges in various fields such as culture, society and economy between the two cities and further between the two countries.
The Andong Festival Tourism Foundation said, We are not making the international relation just a one-time exchange, but making it a good opportunity of creating a local culture that coexists through continuous mutual cultural exchanges.

Benji and Vivian begin their trip by riding all－terrain vehicles on a bumpy mountainous road in Gonngju.

Benji and Vivian visit a famous restaurant with a 40－year tradition and become mesmerized with its food.

Episode 14： In Search of Korean Traditions － Jeonju， Jeollabuk－do Province vs Andong， Gyeongsangbuk－do Province
First stop
Benji and Joy meet for the first time at Omokdae Pavilion， Jeonju and head to the Jeonju Hanok Village， a prime destination among foreigners traveling in Korea. Tina and Aaron meet at the Chehwajeong Pavilion in Andong and head to the Andong Hahoe Village， a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Second stop
Tina and Aaron learn the traditional mask dance at the Andong Hahoe Village， where Tina meets her rival while Aaron shows off his mask dancing skills.
Benji and Joy try their hand at pottery at the hanok village. Both teams try local delicacies － Jeonju bibimbap and Andong steamed chicken.
Final stops
Benji and Joy visit a makgeolli alley and wrap up their trip by sipping makgeolli.
Tina and Aaron take a ferry ride under the beautiful Wolyeonggyo Bridge.

ソウルから車で約３時間半の慶尚北道(キョンサンプット)安東(アンドン)市は

河回村は豊山・柳氏が600年あまり代々暮らしてきた同姓村です。
儒学者柳雲龍と文禄の役の際の領議政(現在の首相に相当)であった柳成龍兄弟を
輩出したことでも知られています。
日本では韓流スター、リュ・シウォンの実家があることで有名です。
村の名前は洛東江(ナットンガン)がS字を描くように村を囲みながら流れていることから
「河回村」と名付けられたそうです。
その様子は村から車で15分ほどの芙蓉臺(プヨンデ)から眺めてみるとよくわかります。
この他にも｢河回別神グッ仮面劇｣という伝統芸能や
｢ソニュチュルプルノリ(韓国伝統花火)｣という伝統行事が受け継がれており、
多くの文化遺産が残されている村です。2010年８月１日には、ユネスコ世界遺産に指定されました。

First stop
Tina meets her partner， Bek， at the house of Lee Won－ik， a prominent person of the Joseon Dynasty who lived in Gwangmyeong.
Second stop
Tina and Bek visit Gwangmyeong Cave， a theme park built on the site of a former mine that was abandoned 40 years ago. Find out how they beat the heat in the cool cave.
Third stop
Tina and Bek visit a traditional market where merchants have hearts larger than life， and enjoy all kinds of delicacies that can only be found at traditional markets.
Final stop
Tina and Bek finish their trip by strolling and looking at the sunset in Hannae Park， a space for healing in the heart of a city.

Benji and Lydia visit Hwabon Station， the most beautiful small station in Korea， and the nostalgic Hwabon Village， where time stands still.

Benji and Lydia play in water in the beautiful valley of Palgongsan Mountain on Myeok Rock. They have a unique experience that cannot be found anywhere else.
Third stop
Benji and Lydia make a shocking transformation in Byeolbit Village， where they try their hand at farming.

Benji and Lydia visit a famous restaurant in Gunwi to try duck bulgogi.
Final stop
Benji and Lydia finish their trip by strolling on a beautiful stone fence path in Hanbam Village， also known as the ″inland Jejudo.″
