1 Day in Siem Reap | Touring Angkor Wat
We had a flying trip to Cambodia. As we only had a day and a half in Siem Reap we managed to do 10 hours of temple hopping around the Temples of Angkor. The hotel helped us organise a tuk tuk driver who picked us up at 4.30am so that we could watch the sun rise over Angkor Watt and then he continued to show us around some incredible temples for the rest of the day.
Enjoy!
We stayed at himaboutique.com - a lovely hotel, with a pool, about a 15 minute walk away from the crazy bar street. There are lots of nice restaurants around it too.
Please leave us some comments and ask us any questions. We're always happy to help :)

Why Angkor Wat (Siem Reap) is a must see | CAMBODIA
Another one of our life bucket list stops the Angkor Wat temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Needless to say we had an absolutely incredible time visiting the Khmer Hindu and Buddhist temple ruins.
Things started off in Phnom Penh where we caught the Cambodia Post VIP Van for $11 USD each to get to Siem Reap. This is the site we booked our Cambodia Post VIP Van tickets from:
They have a variety of routes and departure times. We found Cambodia Post VIP Van to be a pretty cheap and convenient way getting from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, then using a tuk tuk for the remainder of our journey to get to our accommodation.
The ride from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap via Cambodia Post VIP Van took about 3 hours in total including a quick lunch stop and there were tuk tuks waiting around for us to get to our final destination (our Airbnb accommodation in Siem Reap) that ended up being just a few minutes drive away.
Our accommodation in Siem Reap was an urban studio located in the peaceful Kandal Village. The place was clean, stylish and comfortable. It's situated above Khmer 652 - a Cambodian restaurant that serves very delicious Khmer cuisine with super lovely staff. There are a handful of other cafes and restaurants nearby as well as local craft shops too.
Khmer 652 is owned by the Airbnb hosts so you also get a 10% discount for dining there. Our favourite meals during our time in Siem Reap were at Khmer 652 as well as Crane just at the back of their alley. We loved the location of our accommodation in Siem Reap because it's also in close walking distance to a supermarket, the river bank and the very lively Pub Street.
After a quick haircut and a browse around Kandal Village we got some rest before heading over to the Angkor Wat temple complex the next day. We opted to get a personal tour guide which turned out to be one of the best decisions ever.
Sarak was our tuk tuk driver and Angkor Wat travel guide, recommended to us from a fellow YouTuber friend. Sarak took us all around the amazing temples in the Angkor Wat temple complex, visiting the lesser-known and secret quiet areas (as well as the main temples too). He even took it upon himself to help us take some beautiful photos with our phone during our entire time together too. He was a driver, travel guide and photographer all in one!
Get in touch with Sarak:
meamsarak@gmail.com
+855 92 394 994
If you're wondering how to get to Angkor Wat, we definitely recommend going via tuk tuk with Sarak to enjoy the open air ride and if you want to go to the quieter spots like we did, simply let him know.
We bought a 3-day multi-pass to visit the Angkor Wat temple complex. First day we had Sarak and on our subsequent visits we had Mr Bean (Sarak's business partner) take us when we filmed Peter's Part 2 for his how to retire early series and on the final visit we went via Grab tuk tuk ourselves just to Angkor Wat. We were in Siem Reap visiting Angkor Wat during November. Btw, make sure to keep your Angkor Wat tickets with you as this gets checked at various entry points into the temple complex.
We visited the following temples:
- West Gate
- Angkor Thom
- Preah Khan
- Ta Prohm (also known as the Tomb Raider temple)
- Bayon (and then finally...)
- Angkor Wat
We also enjoyed a breath taking sunset away from the crowds at Srah Sang.
If you're enjoying our videos please remember to hit that thumbs up and leave us a comment, we really enjoy hearing from our viewers :) Plus if you're new to our channel, we hope you'll subscribe and turn on notifications so you can stay up to date with all our latest videos each week. We post a new video every Sunday ;)
Thank you :D

Angkor Tour Driver | Siem Reap Driver | Cambodia Driver
Highlight of Angkor Wat Small Circuit Tour.
VietCamLao Chapter 17 - Cambodia. Angkor Wat and Koh Ker
Our Cambodian trip started from this small provincial capital. For a lot of tourists, Krong Stung Treng is a common stopover on the way to or from Laos. Town itself does not have too much to offer apart of the local market, couple of restaurants, guesthouses and Mekong river. After a good breakfast and brief market exploration we were ready to start our Cambodian trip!
Our primary destination was Siem Reap with its Angkor Wat complex. So basically over 300 km of paved road and full day of driving was waiting for us!
On the way we couldn’t miss Koh Ker temple, that’s situated about 120 kilometres northeast of Siem Reap. Koh Ker in ancient inscriptions, was the capital of the Khmer Empire for a very brief period from 928 to 944 CE. In this short time, as well as before and after, many sanctuaries were built and a spectacular 36-metre high seven-tiered pyramid Prasat Thom was erected. More than 180 sanctuaries have been found in an area of 81 square km. Since 1992 the site of Koh Ker has been on UNESCO's Tentative List of World Heritage Sites.
Our next obvious stop was Siem Reap; thanks to its Angkor Wat complex its the most visited site in Cambodia. Town has great variety of accommodation and good selection of restaurants for any pocket size.
Talking about Angkor: entrance fee in low season is 20 USD and probably its worth it as it's one of the most important archaeological sites of Southeast Asia. It extends over approximately 400 square kilometres and consists of scores of temples, hydraulic structures as well as communication routes. For several centuries Angkor, was the centre of the Khmer Kingdom.
Angkor was named a World Heritage site in 1992. The Angkor complex represents the entire range of Khmer art from the 9th to the 14th centuries, and includes a number of indisputable artistic masterpieces.
Our first stop was at Banteay Kdei. Its name means “Citadel of Chambers”. The ruins are a fascinating maze of chambers that are a delight to explore. Also serving as a Buddhist temple, these ruins have been home to an active monastery at multiple time periods since their construction in the 12th century.
Next temple we visited was Pre Rup. The modern name of this imposing and intriguing temple mountain translates as ‘turning the body’, referring to an ancient cremation rite but its origins were unrelated to cremation ceremonies.
After warm up with smaller temples we were ready for the most important and impressive once so it was time to visit the heart of Angkor Thom with its 12th-century Bayon temple. The Bayon was the last state temple to be built at Angkor, and the only Angkorian state temple to be built primarily as a Mahayana Buddhist shrine dedicated to the Buddha. 37 standing towers belong to Bayon temple with the central tower rising 43 meters above the ground.
In Khmer Angkor Wat means City of Temples”. Angkor Wat is the heart and soul of Cambodia and a source of fierce national pride. It even appears on the nation’s flag. Unlike the other Angkor monuments, it was never abandoned to the elements and has been in virtually continuous use since it was built. It was originally built in the first half of the 12th century by Emperor Suryavarman II as the state temple and political center of his empire. Originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, Angkor Wat became a Buddhist temple by the end of the 12th century.
You need to be really fast and efficient if you decided to explore the whole complex in one day (as we did). Bring enough water and some snacks as it can be really hot and long day.
We couldn't miss the capital of Cambodia on the way to the south. Phnom Penh definitely has the vide of the big capital and in our opinion worth couple of days of visit .
For many thousands of years, the art of stone carving has flourished in Cambodia. From the small statues made by local artisans to the famous, breathtaking carvings found at Angkor Wat, stone carving has become one of the country's most cherished art forms. We were lucky to witness this amazing work in progress on the way to the seaside. After a long day of driving, we finally got to the ocean. The plan was to visit Kampot and Kep. The area offers a wide choice of accommodations and ferry departures to the offshore islands. We stopped there just for two nights. It was enough to check the whole area with its not very inviting water and overpriced restaurants. Unfortunately we didn't have much time for deeper exploration. We were ready to make our way to Vietnam
A Weekend Trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia
Featuring the most majestic, some of the oldest, most well-preserved temples with the most intricate details I've ever been to!
We visited the famous Angkor Wat and of course the place where they shot scenes of the Tomb Raider- Ta Phrom temple!
We had the most fantastic tour guide/tuk-tuk driver who chauffeured and helped us cover all of the temples in just 2 days!
Spent a weekend here meeting the most hospitable and accommodating people and experienced great night vibes.
Definitely recommend you guys to visit :)

24 Hours In Cambodia | Private Sunrise Tour $110- WORTH IT?
Since I went to Siem Reap alone, I got a private guide and driver. Let's get this out of the way first, How much did it cost? It cost me $110 USD , for a 10 hour experience. Now the cost would be reduced by almost half if you were with a friend, and a third if you with another, and so on, and so forth. I felt this was the best choice for me, to get the full experience, be able to video and speak freely, and move about in as little or as much time as I wanted. Plus, he took some really awesome photos for me! The entrance fee is $20 (£15) to $37 (£28) for a one-day pass, a three-day pass from $40 (£31) to $62 (£48) and a seven-day ticket from $60 (£46) to $72 (£55)
The visa system was extremely efficient. Don't forget to bring a photo, but if you do, they have people who can photograph you at an inexpensive cost, but it'll take time. For me, I had a photo with me and filled out the visa form in line- it took me about 10 minutes.
That evening, I went to the market to buy some clothes that will cover my knees and shoulders. The temples have a strictly enforced, no exposed body parts, rule.
The first temple I went to, is Angkor Wat and I went at 5am for sunrise. I enjoyed the whole experience, albeit tiring.
I just wanted to say, at about 4:50, the statue isn't a hindu statue but rather a buddhist statue with a buddhist robe, but an example of one is in 6:40 (Hindu God Vishnu with a Buddhist robe). To get the full effect of the echo room: listen with headphones- the reverb is seriously cool!
The second temple I went to is Phnom Bakheng Temple. It has 5 tiers and overlooks Angkor Wat. The third temple is called Bayon Temple- a temple known for the many heads that face in all directions. It's really magnificent there.
Ta Keo Temple is fourth- beautiful too- lots to steps though. But what really stood out to me about this temple is kindness. I joined some locals for beers ($1USD), and there was a chance you'd win another beer with the beer (it was one of those, lift the top of the can, kind of contest/games). I bought a round ($6USD) and won a free beer too. It's ridiculous, a drink in Canada is about $10...
The fifth and last temple is Ta Prohm Temple- tomb raider temple had a lot of really interesting tree growth. By this time, I was sooooo tired. So it was nice to end the tour with a Hollywood film location :)
That evening, I took the tuk tuk (the motorcycle buggies) to the circus (Phare). For $18 USD, I'd recommend it. It's interesting, teaches you a bit about culture, it gives you a chance to support local artists.

Exquisite UNESCO World Heritage Site - Angkor Wat / Siem Reap / Cambodia * * * * *
Marvellous.
Magnificient.
Magical.
Having visited umpteen cathedrals & castles throughout Europe and experienced the grand serenity of the ancient Buddhist site of Borobudur in Java, paying homage to the Hindu-inspired temple complex of Angkor Wat - the largest religious monument in the world - was our excuse for making a side trip to Cambodia.
The personalised day tour by a recommended guide/driver from our hotel - the surprisingly delightful Borei Angkor Resort & Spa (boreiangkor.com) - was flexible in terms of scheduling and most memorable in terms of accommodating our interests.
Coming up next ... the Egyptian pyramids of Giza; Hagia Sophia & the Blue Mosque of Istanbul.

We are glad we did and we are also happy that we decided to go all or nothing and hired this amazing TukTuk driver Mr. Bean for one day (9 hours in total). Best 30 Dollars we spent on a guide ever!

Angkor Wat in Siem Reap Cambodia - War Museum, National Angkor Museum
Please look at my other videos featuring Italy, Japan, Vietnam and many more to come
getoffthetourbus.com
About 50% of tourists visiting Cambodia got Siem Reap because it's very close th Angkor Wat.
Angkor Wat was begun construction in the 12th Century It was originally a temple for the Hindu ruler of the Khmer empire and it was dedicated to the god Vishnu. Later a Buddhist ruler completed the vast building and grounds.
Transcript
I had to fill in some time with a flight later in the day, so I went to the War Museum in Siem Reap. It was a revelation to me.
It brought home to our group of Westerners how this very dirty war was fought.
Walking here was a bit spooky because the museum itself was a cleared minefield.
You can see a gruesome poster of people missing legs and arms and landmines are still being found.
The Khmer Rouge led by Pol Pot committed genocide on their own people, all over Cambodia.
The National Angkor Museum is entered through the Room of 1000 Buddhas”
Each alcove holds a statue of Buddha. 95% of Cambodians are Buddhists.
The museum introduces you to the long history of Cambodia or Kampuchea as it’s called in Asia.
The displays are very pleasing to the eye culminating in the model of Angkor Wat
Now for the real thing! Angkor Wat is surrounded by a 5 km long moat which could become overgrown with water plants unless controlled. They would form a sort of underwater jungle.
Moving around here was very difficult with a pram.
Our guide warned us about the monkeys. They were small but in his words “naughty”. They like to steal tourists’ food and will jump on your back
It was very hot outside and definitely better inside looking out.
In Angkor Wat there are many surfaces and many carvings
This bas-relief shows three apsaras with their tall, ornate headdresses
This is definitely a location where you need a guide.
If I had a religion it would be Buddhism so I took the opportunity to receive a blessing from a Buddhist monk.
Angkor Wat is huge. The outer wall is 3.6 km long. It is the largest religious monument in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992.
The descent looked daunting to me. I’m hanging onto the rail.
The next temple is called Ta Prohm and it’s far less conserved.
Eventually the stones will be reassembled but for now, you can see what the jungle can do.
This temple was abandoned in the 15th century.
Posters display before and after views.
Conservation efforts will continue year after year into the future.
If this temple seems familiar to you, it was the location for Indiana Jones temple of doom.
The temples get pretty crowded and I wondered what impact many many tourists had on these sites.
Now you can clearly see the columns and bas-relief on the walls.
The third temple called Angkor Thom has very elegant spires which would have been lookout towers.
Its walls are 8 m high.
A popular setting for a fashion or a wedding shoot.
Some of us, including me, were getting hot and tired as the afternoon wore on. All templed out! sWe waited with the tuk tuk drivers. It’s better to go on a tour because the buses are air-conditioned and you have a guide.
The southern gate to Angkor Thom must be one of the best entrances to any site in the world.
The causeway crosses the moat flanked by 54 Demons on one side and 54 warrior gods, the good guys, opposing them on the other side. I think the good guys won.
