Flyover Anthony Lakes Backcountry 3-29-2018
Spring snowpack FWAC Flyover at Anthony Lakes in the northern Elkhorn Mountains of Oregon. During the video, ski tracks are seen in the backcountry basin of Hoffer Lakes. No avalanche activity is seen but some remnants of sloughs and roller balls are notable below the peaks. Snow coverage is relatively low as talus rocks are visible in the basins. The sequence pans toward the south then around north and includes (in order) Poster Ridge, The Lakes Lookout, Lee's Peak & Ramp, Angell Peak & Basin, Gunsight Peak, Anthony Lakes Ski Area lodge, and finishing with ski runs with skiers on them (Lower College, Grouse, Vista, and Starbottle).
Exploring the PNW • Hiking Anthony Lakes (Eastern Oregon)
This #hike to Black Lake in #easternOregon was more than we bargained for. We picked a trail off the #alltrails app and ended up seeing three beautiful lakes along the way, I guess that’s why they call the area #anthonylakes.
Join us, Leslie and Tikoya, as we show you some of the best that #thepnw has to offer. Day Trip to Anthony Lakes
A little spring skiing and weather at Anthony Lakes Ski Area just outside of Baker City, Oregon. On a school day (Friday), two days before end-of-season closure. Four inches of fresh snow from the night before and nobody around.
Elkhorn Scenic Byway, Oregon ~ 4/4 (Anthony Lakes to Baker Valley) 6-29-13
In northeastern Oregon, the Elkhorn Scenic Byway is only open in the summer & early fall (usually opening in late June or early July). Driven clockwise from Sumpter, Oregon (home of the Sumpter Valley Railroad steam train and Sumpter Valley Dredge State Park), the winding Forest Road 73 climbs two passes (Blue Springs Summit & Elkhorn Mountain Summit), passes the almost-ghost town of Granite (population about 40) and Anthony Lakes Ski Area (operating since 1933), before dropping down into the Baker Valley. The Elkhorn Mountains rise all around, unfortunately the forward facing camera (and the tall pines) hide most of them on this drive.
This is the last segment of the Byway, dropping steeply down to the Baker Valley from Anthony Lakes Ski Area.

Carving Ski
Carving Ski Training:
Skiers all over the world seek ski lessons and ski camps where they can learn the latest in modern skiing techniques designed to accommodate today's new ski designs. I, personally, have been to at least 5 Harb Ski Camps in the last few years and Harald Harb not only teaches the latest ski techniques, but motivates and coaches his students to their full potential on skis. At the Harb Ski Camps you'll meet new friends who share your passion for skiing.

Many of the top skiers in the country contribute to the PMTS forum:
PMTS is the abbreviation for Primary Movements Teaching System. It is bio-mechanically correct for today's technique and modern shaped skis. You can learn more by going to the forum. Many of the top skiers and world cup racers are converting to PMTS. Unfortunately, PMTS is not often found at the ski schools of most major resorts. But hopefully it will someday be found at Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Buttermilk, Copper Mountain, Crested Butte, Durango, Eldora Mountain, Keystone, Loveland, Monarch, Silverton Mountain, Snowmass, Steamboat, Sunlight Mountain, Telluride, Vail, Winter Park, Wolf Creek, Anthony Lakes, Bogus Basin, Brundage, Pebble Creek Ski Area, Schweitzer, Silver Mountain, Sun Valley, Tamarack, Big Mountain, Big Sky, Bridger Bowl, Moonlight Basin, Whitefish Mountain, Antelope Butte, Big Horn, Grand Targhee, Hogadon, Jackson Hole, Sleeping Giant, Snowy Range, White Pine, Alpine Meadows, Bear Valley Mountain, Boreal, Donner, Heavenly Lake Tahoe, Homewood, Kirkwood Mountain, Mammoth Mountain, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl, Taos, Anthony Lakes, Cooper Spur Mountain, Hoodoo Ski Area, Mount Ashland, Mount Bachelor, Mount Hood, Mount Hood SkiBowl, Timberline, Willamette Pass, Alta, Beaver Mountain, Brian Head, Brighton, Deer Valley, Elk Meadows, Park City, Powder Mountain, Snowbasin, Snowbird, Solitude, Sundance, The Canyons, Wolf Mountain, Crystal Mountain, Mount Baker, Stevens Pass, Diamond Peak, Mount Rose, Belleayre Mountain, Bristol Mountain, Gore Mountain, Greek Peak Mountain Resort, Holiday Valley, Hunter Mountain, Lake Placid/Whiteface, Windham Mountain, Blue Mountain, Camelback, Elk Mountain, Jack Frost/Big Boulder, Seven Springs, Shawnee, Saddleback, Shawnee Peak, Sugarloaf, Sunday River, Attitash Bear Peak, Black Mountain, Bretton Woods, Cannon Mountain, Cranmore, Loon Mountain, Mount Sunapee, Waterville Valley, Wildcat, Gunstock, Ascutney Mountain, Bolton Valley, Bolton Valley, Burke Mountain, Jay Peak, Killington, Mad River Glen, Mt Snow, Pico, Okemo, Stowe, Stratton, Sugarbush.
8:27:13 Baker City Council Meeting--Mayor Langrell on cattle fence that was not not built
Baker City, Oregon Mayor Richard Langrell talks about previous Public Works Director's attitudes about keeping cows out of our watershed. He notes that the materials for a fence that an earlier watershed report stated would be built in the spring of 2012 in order to keep cattle out of the watershed are still in the public works warehouse and he asks current Public Works Director Michelle Owen if we [could] possibly move that fence up a little in priorities and we are going to do something about it now? In late July and in August, Baker City, Oregon experiences an outbreak of waterborne disease caused by Cryptosporidium. Large numbers of Cryptosporidium oocysts were found at the Elk Creek water diversion where the cattle had been known to be getting in for over three years, but the fence had still not been built. Myself and Councilors Dorrah and Button found many cowpies of different ages in the area around the Elk Creek diversion. Councilors had not been told that cattle were fouling the watershed and did not know about the two year old plans to build a new fence. The state said they were told the fencing project was not undertaken due to time/manpower limitations. During that time, the city spent a large amount of money, city manpower, and city equipment to help upgrade, seal and deliver water to a golf course irrigation pond and to put utilities underground for the business area in a few block section of Resort Street.
Because we currently have an exemption from filtration, the city is moving forward with cost-effective UV treatment of our drinking water. The state has informed the city that if we do not get serious about keeping cows out of the watershed, we will likely lose our exemption from filtration, which will add several millions of dollars to the cost of treating our water.
