What You Need to Know:
1. Pick a side
You can view the falls from either the Ontario or the New York side. Most visitors prefer the Canadian side, which also has a nicer selection of restaurants and hotels.
2. Exchange currency
Canada's official currency is the Canadian dollar, but U.S. dollars, as well as major credit cards, will be accepted on the either side. On the other hand, exchanging money before crossing into Canada and taking advantage of the exchange rate isn't a bad idea, depending on the fluctuating currencies.
3. Consider an activities pass
There are multiple passes that grant discounted admission to several top attractions, including the Journey Behind the Falls, Cave of the Winds and Maid of the Mist, for one price. Research your options to decide which is best for your itinerary.

Amazing and awe-inspiring Niagara Falls is the oldest state park in the United States. The grounds, which offer plenty of hiking opportunities, were designed by the famous architect Frederick Law Olmstead. Offerings include the Maid of the Mist boat ride, Cave of the Winds Tour to the aptly called Hurricane Decks, fireworks over the falls during the tourist season, illumination of the falls at night, and the Top of the Falls restaurant. Nearby is the Niagara Aquarium and a booming wine trail.

NIAGARA FALLS STATE PARK || NEW YORK
Niagara Falls is one of the top places to visit if you are in the States. We planned it on labor's day weekend last year which was on 1st September, 2018. Watching it in person was an absolutely magical experience for us.
Niagara Falls is situated on the New York & Canadian border along the Niagara river. It is composed of three waterfalls- Horseshoe Falls, American Falls & Bridal Veil Falls.
The thundering roar of the falls, the breathtaking views and the mist on our face aboard the 'Maid of the Mist' boat was truly an amazing experience.

MAID OF THE MIST BOAT TOUR AT NIAGARA FALLS - NEW YORK | beingmommywithstyle
The first thing we did on the United States side of Niagara Falls was head to Maid of the Mist! This is a iconic boat tour that goes into the mist of the falls and has been operating since the 1800s! Our family had a great time viewing the Falls up close!

Niagara Falls Cayuga: Gahnawehtaˀ or Tgahnawęhtaˀ[1]) is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between Canada and the United States; more specifically, between the province of Ontario and the state of New York. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge.
From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lie mostly on the Canadian side and the American Falls entirely on the American side, separated by Goat Island. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also located on the American side, separated from the other waterfalls by Luna Island. The international boundary line was originally drawn through Horseshoe Falls in 1819, but the boundary has long been in dispute due to natural erosion and construction.[2]
Located on the Niagara River, which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world, with a vertical drop of more than 165 feet (50 m). Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by vertical height and also by flow rate.[3] The falls are located 17 miles (27 km) north-northwest of Buffalo, New York and 75 miles (121 km) south-southeast of Toronto, between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York.
Niagara Falls were formed when glaciers receded at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age), and water from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path through the Niagara Escarpment en route to the Atlantic Ocean. While not exceptionally high, the Niagara Falls are very wide. More than six million cubic feet (168,000 m3) of water falls over the crest line every minute in high flow,[4] and almost four million cubic feet (110,000 m3) on average,More Info
