Arcata Marsh FPV - Aerial Views
Check out the XP2 Quadcopter used to make this video:
I was driving around looking for a place to get some nice shots and decided on the Arcata Marsh in Arcata, Ca. There is much more to this bird sanctuary that what is shown here, but I didn't want to disturb the birds or the people. Had some fun flying here, but inexplicably I lost communication between my transmitter and my quad. I wasn't very far away, but the thing just decided to stop responding. I tried to at least avoid going straight into the water again, and managed to land in some mucky mud. Luckily the XP2 was only bent up. All the electronics work and she's goos ad new again.
I was also testing the new Marumi ND4X filter I got from Snake River Prototyping, along with their Blurfix3 SO Naked filter mount. It really reduced the jello from bright sun, although I did notice when the GoPro was pointed directly at the sun there was still a bit of jello in the image. The mount said on firmly in the crash too! Check out this great mount & Filter:

Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary
The Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the City of Arcata's innovative wastewater treatment facility. By integrating its conventional wastewater treatment with the natural treatment processes of constructed wetlands Arcata has succeeded in turning its treated wastewater into a resource. The sanctuary includes 307 acres of freshwater marshes, salt marsh with tidal slough, grassy uplands, tidal mudflats, brackish marsh, 5.4 miles of walking and biking paths and an Interpretive Center that serve over 150.000 visitors every year.
Located at the north end of Humboldt Bay, the sanctuary is situated along the Pacific Flyway, a major migratory route for thousands of birds that breed in the far north and winter in California, Mexico, and Central and South America. These wetlands provide homes and migratory resting places for over 270 species of birds. Although birding is good year round, it's best from mid-July to early May. Songbirds are abundant from spring through fall. A variety of raptors reside or visit here seasonally. From October through April, look for waterfowl, shorebirds and wading birds.
Numerous species of plants, mammals, insects, and amphibians inhabit the marsh, including Raccoons, River Otters, Gray Foxes, Bobcats, Pacific Tree Frogs, Red-legged Frogs, Rough-skinned Newts & Dragonflies.
The Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary has received international recognition and numerous awards as a municipal planning design, a cost-effective public utility operation, an urban redevelopment plan, and a natural resource project.

Arcata Marsh
I absolutely love this place. Located on the beautiful West Coast of California in a county called Humboldt lies one of the most serene places on earth. Right now the Godwits are migrating through, and you will see them in this video. For a little bit of background on the Arcata Marsh, this place was actually once referred to as the Duck Pond and was basically a place filled with man-made lakes. Since then, though, Arcata put through a motion to reclaim the marsh and restore it to what it once was: wetlands. It's been great to see nature reclaim its territory and the wild return to this place once again.
