Ukraine: its Donbass conflict | VPRO Documentary
In Ukraine, in the region of Donbass there is an ongoing conflict. How did this conflict start and how are people in the Donbass area dealing with this conflict that tears apart families and entire villages? Is Ukraine a divided country where war will destroy regions like the Donbass? A documentary about Ukraine, the conflict in the Donbass region and the people that have to live with it.
For over a year, a dirty battle has been going on in 'the Donbass', an area rich with coal and industry in East Ukraine. More than six thousand people have been killed so far. Jelle talks to the Russian rebels at the front. What kind of people are they? He also visits the Donetsk opera, which has a show every day - war or no war.
In this eight-part travel series the Dutch journalist and author Jelle Brandt Corstius travels through Russia and visits the neighbor countries Latvia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan. What image do the Russians have of their neighbors and vice versa? What are the relations between the powerful Russia and the other former Soviet republics? And how do the countries around Russia treat their Russian inhabitants? A series about propaganda and identity.
On the Maidan, Kiev´s central square, in spring of 2014 the war started. Thousands of people demanded closer relations with Europe. After weeks of protests, the police intervened. One hundred people died. In Ukraine they are known as the Heavenly Hundred. President Yanukovych fled to Russia and the revolution started. And with the revolution came the war that would split the country in two. Dutch Journalist Corstius talks to people on the street and investigates the status quo and the way the population deals with the changes the country has gone through.
He visits the place in Odessa where on May 2 2014 46 pro-Russian activists died from suffocation in a former trade union building. They were under attack from pro-Ukrainian activists and a fire broke out. Until today it is not clear what caused it. This fire made many Russians leave for Ukraine to join the fight so that the war spread from Crimea to the entire eastern region of Ukraine.

Luxembourg: EU must help Ukraine with gas crisis - Hammond
VideoID: 20141020-009
W/S Car arriving
SOT, Philip Hammond, British Secretary of State (in English): On Ukraine, we do have to help the Ukrainians to deal with the crisis that they're facing in energy supplies this winter. How best we do that is something that we need to discuss but we certainly have to help them.
W/S Flags
SOT, Philip Hammond, British Secretary of State (in English): We also need to keep up the pressure on ISIL in Iraq and on the Assad regime in Syria. We'll also be discussing the situation in Libya, in Iran and also the Ukraine-Russia situation.
W/S Security
SOT, Philip Hammond, British Secretary of State (in English): The Turks have said that they will join as active members of the coalition. How best they make their contribution is a subject we're discussing and we have to do that in a full awareness of the context, the historical context in which Turkey has complex relations with some of the players in the region. We've got to make sure that each party in the coalition makes its contribution in a way that has the maximum positive effect.
W/S Flags
SCRIPT
British Secretary of State Philip Hammond said that Europe must help Ukraine to deal with its gas crisis when arriving in Luxembourg on Monday for an EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting. Hammond also emphasised the need for the EU keep up the pressure on the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS/ISIL/ISIS), while also making clear that uniting with Assad is not a possibility to combat the militant organisation.
Hammond also discussed the role of Turkey in the coalition against IS, stating that: we have to do that in a full awareness of the context, the historical context in which Turkey has complex relations with some of the players in the region.

Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 23, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
Opening arguments in President Trump’s impeachment trial began on Jan. 22 in the Senate. House managers, led by Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), will present three days of opening arguments. Then, senators will have 16 hours to ask questions in writing. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. will read the questions out loud, and the appropriate side — defense or prosecution — can answer them.
President Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.
