Good morning. Today we’re going to go on a horseback ride with Jacamar naturalist tours. This is one of the tours that you can book through our website and get a special deal on. WE’re going to go on a nice couple hour horseback ride through the fields, up to a nice view point and hopefully see the volcano if it clears up a little bit. It should be a really fun day.
So this tour is great for anyone of all ages or families, even if you’ve never been on a horse before because all these horses are really gentle, they know where to go and the views are beautiful.

The Arenal Volcano National Park is found in the northern region of Alajuela - next to the small town of La Fortuna. Most tourists visit the Arenal area before heading to the beaches as part of their Costa Rican Adventure, and with good reason!
Costa Rica is home to six active volcanoes, the most famous of all being the majestic Arenal Volcano. Rising up to 5,355 ft (1,633m) it is thought to be a relatively young volcano at around 7,000 years old.
It is one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world, making for an exciting visit. The last major eruption was back in 1968,- but has recently entered a resting phase as of December 2010. None the less - it remains a stunning iconic image of Costa Rica.
The geothermal activity in the area means the surrounding vegetation is lush and has plenty of flora and fauna. Of the 850 bird species found in Costa Rica, many of them can be spotted in the Arenal Region.
The underground thermal hot springs are a big attraction, and one of the main reasons you will find plenty of excellent resorts and boutique hotels in the area.
The Arenal Kioro Hotel comes highly recommended. It has some of the best views of the Volcano as it's located at the base! The on-site hot springs are a perfect spot to enjoy the views at night.

Arenal Volcano
The Arenal Volcano National Park encompasses four different life zones and harbors a tremendous amount of flora and fauna. In fact, nearly 75% of the total 850 species of birds that have been identified in Costa Rica can be found here. Other creatures include sloths, white-faced capuchin monkeys, coati, deer and snakes, including the infamous fer-de-lance, parrot snake and boa constrictor. The plants are just as varied and include guayabo de monte, laurel, cirri, palms, orchids, heliconias, ferns and bromeliads. Arenal’s smaller – and much older – sibling, the Chato Volcano (Volcán Chato), adjoins Arenal. This volcano, which resides at a height of 3,740 ft (1,140 m), has been inactive for some 3,500 years and has a crater that’s filled with aqua-blue water.
The activities within this area are endless. Horseback rides can be made through the nearby hills and whitewater rafting can be done on the Peñas Blancas, Toro and Balsa rivers. Each river is different in both intensity and scenery – participants can choose between leisurely safari floats or exciting class IV rapids. A variety of other water sports can be enjoyed on Lake Arenal, including canoeing, fishing and kite surfing. Inland diversions include hiking and waterfall repelling, as well as canopy and hanging bridge tours. The La Fortuna Waterfall, a breathtaking 230 ft (70 m) cascade that drops into a misty pool, is just 3 miles (5 km) south of La Fortuna and makes for an easy day trip. A short hike (or horseback ride) drops visitors into the base of the pool, where they can swim, take photos and enjoy the scenery.

Arenal Costa Rica - Must see!!! Arenal Volcano and Monteverde Cloud forest
I flew from San jose Costa Rica to La Fortuna with Nature Air.
To drive, it would take aprox 3 hours, but I chose to taka a half hour flight for only 75USD. When you arrive at the La Fortuna airport you will be charged a 7 dollar airport fee, they will charge you this when you fly out as well.
This area is amazing and perfect for adrenaline junkies. You can hike the lave trail, zip line, enjoy Lake Arenal. You can also do a day trip to Monteverde cloud forest as well as enjoy the many hotl springs. One of the most famous is Tabacon.
My suggestions for places to stay in the area are the following;

The breathtaking views surrounding Arenal are a must see when visiting this region of Costa Rica. The drive from the Gulf of Papagayo is long, but very scenic; the excursion is worth the costs. We were fortunate to take a boat ride on Lake Arenal, before heading into the Arenal National Park for a canopy hike through the rainforest. We finished the excursion with a dip in the natural hot springs and a nice dinner with the most spectacular view of Arenal. If you get a chance, mark this at the top of your to-do list in Costa Rica!

Today we’re going to do the combination tour of the hanging bridges and the La Fortuna waterfall in Arenal. We’re going to go with Jacamar Naturalist Tours, and this is a combination and it also includes lunch so we should have a really nice walk down to the waterfall and the hanging bridges, should be a really fun day.
We’re here at the Mistico Hanging Bridges and here actually by Lake Arenal. Behind me well arenal Volcano is a little covered in clouds but we’re going to go on a couple hour hike going through I think 13 bridges through the rainforest so hopefully we’ll see lots of cool wildlife and get some nice views.
We’ve been walking for about 1 hour and we finally reached the first hanging bridge and this is one of the longest in the Mistico Hanging Bridges walk. We’ve seen lots of cool trees, lots of plants, some monkeys so hopefully we’ll see some more wildlife, it’s been a very nice walk so far.
We’re walking on one of the hanging bridges and our guide just found a viper which is a common snake found in the Arenal area so let’s go check it out.
We’re visiting the La Fortuna waterfall, this is a beautiful waterfall in the La Fortuna area. It’s only about a 15 minute drive from town, it’s very popular it’s one of the most popular activities and we’ll show you guys why in just a second.

We’re at the Arenal 1968 hiking trails, we’re going to go for a walk to see the Arenal Volcano and afterwards, we’re going to go visit the hot springs.
Where we are now is next to the national park, it’s like next to the national park but this is actually a private reserve. They have different trails, we’re now at the most popular where most people come to hike, this is the best view you can get of Arenal Volcano.
Now we’re at the Tabacon hot springs. This is the second half of the combination tour. The fist half we hiked around Arenal Volcano. You can also visit the Tabacon hot springs on your own so we’re going to go enjoy the beautiful gardens, and relax after a fun day and we’re also going to get dinner which I’m really excited about because it’s going to be a really great buffet.

Arenal is Costa Rica's most active volcano, and one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world. It has been studied by seismologists for many years. Although the activity nowadays is less damaging, you can still see ash columns, underground rumbling, glowing orange lava flows and sudden explosions on a daily basis. With its perfect conical shape it allows breathtaking views of volcanic action in the summit. Almost every night the crater offers a spectacle of lights with its explosive eruptions. The volcano is located at the center of Arenal Volcano National Park in the northern zone of the country, 15 kilometers (9.3 mi) southwest of the La Fortuna district in San Carlos Canton, Costa Rica.[5] The temperature varies from 16 °C (61 °F) in the high areas to 24 °C (75 °F) in the low areas and the annual rainfall is around 500 centimeters (200 in).[citation needed] Arenal Volcano area is an important watershed for the Arenal Lake Reservoir.
