The Arizona Railway Museum is a railroad museum located in Chandler, Arizona at 330 E. Ryan Rd, Chandler, Arizona
It was founded and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1983. It is dedicated to the railroads of Arizona and the Southwestern United States. It has an extensive collection railroad rolling stock and artifacts. Two of items on display are listed in the National Register of Historic Places, they are the Southern Pacific Railroad Locomotive No. SP 2562 and Tender No. 8365 and the Railroad Steam Wrecking Crane and Tool Car.

Everywhere A to Z: Arizona Railway Museum in Chandler
Arizona Railway Museum is ran by all volunteers and a train built in 1906 and donated to the city of Chandler.

This hidden gem is tucked inside the community of Chandler, AZ. You will see an array of historic/vintage trains of all types and sizes. You can see the insides of three trains and see how people traveled from yesteryears. Inside the first car with the gentleman sitting on the sofa is where the movie Terror Train was filmed. In the movie you will see a jukebox at the end where the movie poster now sits. I took lots of pictures and put them together in this slide show with upbeat music.
4/6/19 SD&AE desert line exploration: The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo, CA revisit!
For the final day of our Capistrano, San Diego and Imperial Valley trip, we will travel eastward from Alpine and away from San Diego to Campo, Jacumba, Coyote Wells and Plant City which have unique pieces of railroad equipment and are places located along the former San Diego and Arizona Eastern desert line.
After we have rested from another fun day, it was time to explore several accessible areas which have unique pieces of railroad equipment along the SD&AE making our first stop at a railroad museum which we have known and visited for many years as well as made appearance in the kid's videos There Goes a Train and Train Songs plus the film Pearl Harbor, The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum or also known as the San Diego Railroad Museum in Campo, CA. In this video, we will showcase all of the equipment we were able to see during our last recent visit to this awesome museum featuring a huge variety of train equipment such as the Southern Pacific 4-6-0 #2353 ( California Western 2-6-6-2 #46 ( San Diego & Arizona 2-8-0 #104 ( San Diego & Arizona MRS-1 (Military Road Switcher) #1809 ( U.S. Army MRS-1 (Military Road Switcher) #1820 ( U.S. Air Force RSX-4/MRS-1 (Military Road Switcher) #2104 ( Southern Pacific GP9 low nose #3709 ( as USMC 1401, Southern Pacific GP9 high nose #3873 ( as well as the active museum excursion train with the SAN DIEGO & ARIZONA RAILWAY #6700 Baggage Car ( SD&A Railway #252 ( and powered by the 80-ton GE centercab switcher San Diego & Arizona #7285.

Passenger Cars on a Freight Train? UP LKK30 with Ex-ATSF Amtrak Hi-Levels in Mesa and Chandler, AZ
Amtrak returns to Phoenix for the first time in 23 years! Well, kind of.
The Arizona Railway Museum in Chandler recently added two Amtrak Ex-ATSF Hi-Level passenger cars to its collection. They came in on BNSF and spent a week in Phoenix before finally arriving in Mesa, where the Union Pacific Chandler Local took them to their new home, the Arizona Railway Museum.
These passenger cars were built for long-distance use on ATSF's El Capitan and San Francisco Chief. After Amtrak acquired them, they were used on services like the Southwest Chief. Eventually, they were replaced by the Superliners, whom the Hi-levels inspired the design of.
Note: the boxcars around the passenger cars will not remain at the museum. These boxcars acted as buffers to prevent damage to the Hi-levels. They are going to be picked up by the Chandler Local on a later day to be taken back to where they came from in Tennessee. As for the passenger cars, they are going to be restored to their original Santa Fe appearance both inside and out. This is supposed to be done by February.

The Arizona Central Railroad
After many years in Arizona I finally caught the Arizona Central Railroad's freight operations. The AZCR is more commonly known as the operator of a tourist train out of Clarkdale, AZ which runs under the name of the Verde Canyon Railroad. However, they also run a freight train to Drake, AZ (for BNSF interchange) to support Clarkdale's cement plant. Catching this train involved starting my day at 3AM, but it was well worth it.
Clips:
-The northbound train at a forest road crossing with outbound cement and empty coal hoppers. The CP boxcar was a nice surprise as well.
-3 clips of switching the wye at Drake.
-The southbound train (now headed by a high-hood GP9) departing Drake with loaded coal hoppers.
-The southbound train at the same forest road crossing. It was here that the brakes were applied for a long downhill segment. We caught it at the bottom and the freight cars' brakes were smoking.

ElevaTOUR: US Elevators at First Credit Union Building in Chandler Arizona
I recently checked out the elevators at the First Credit Union building in downtown Chandler Arizona and found out that they're US elevators that actually run very smoothly. So I decided to actually film them. As a subscriber to DieselDucy, it reminds me of the Elmwood Parking Garage elevator in Roanoke Virginia that was once a US elevator but has been modded by ThyssenKrupp.

Moving the SP2562 Arizona Railway Museum
February 2007 I was at the Arizona Railway Museum while some switching work was being done. From the cab of the 2-8-0 SP 2562 steam locomotive, she is being pulled by a Baldwin DRS 6-6-1500 which you can hear in the background. The cylinders still function as you can hear the hissing but sadly the 2562 will never run. It is a static display
WWII Escape Tunnel - Scottsdale, Arizona
During WWII, Papago Park was home to a prisoner of war camp for roughly 3,000 Germans.
25 prisoners escape Camp Papago Park in December 1944. They dug a 178 - foot tunnel, that ended at the Arizona Crosscut Canal. Once through the tunnel, most of the prisoners headed south for Mexico and were later captured, but three made a canoe and headed for the Gila River, planning to float to the Colorado River, then down to the sea of Cortez, then to freedom. When they arrived at the Gila River is was dry. They were later captured.

Goodyear - Ocotillo Cemetery/Chandler, Arizona
The Arizona Cotton boom occurred during WWI as a result of the development of Long Staple Egyptian Cotton. The town of Goodyear was established in 1917 by the tire company, specifically for establishing its factory and employees there.
The Goodyear - Ocotillo Cemetery Historical Marker reads - the land surrounding this cemetery represents the beginning of commercial cotton growing in Arizona.
In January 1917, during World War I, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company founded the Southwest Cotton Company to begin producing long - Staple cotton for domestic and military use.
People came from across the United States and Mexico to start a new life in the cotton fields. Migrant workers and their labor laid the agricultural foundation of the East Valley.

Union Pacific 1394 with the Chandler Local Train Long-Hood-Forward in Chandler, AZ
The same locomotive as last time, UP 1394, shunting and taking off with the Chandler Local. I didn't have my scanner like last time because railfanning wasn't what I was here for, but I knew that I would be in the same area in the same time as the Chandler Local so I brought my camera and tripod. It looks like this crossing is not a quiet zone, however the train only blew it's horn once for some reason.
Williams Field 1941-1993 - Mesa Arizona
Williams AFB was active as a training base for both the United States Army Air Forces, as well as the United States Air Force from 1941 until its closure in 1993. Williams was the leading pilot training facility of the USAF, supplying 25% of all pilots.
Williams AFB was named in honor of Arizona native 1st Lt Charles Linton Williams 1898-1927.
Williams field was support by 5 auxiliary air fields, we will be checking out 2 of them in this video.
