Arkansas & Missouri Railroad: Rare Mileage Excursion
Springdale, Arkansas is home to over 80,000 people. As the fourth largest city in Arkansas, Springdale is home to Tyson Foods. It’s just one of many major corporations that call Northwest Arkansas home. With a healthy economy and a diverse population, the city is served by the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad. Founded in 1986, the A&M Railroad has helped Springdale grow into the vibrant city it is today. On January 14th, 2018, I was invited to partake in the annual Rail Passenger Car Alliance conference to learn more about railroading from leaders in the industry. With seminars, a banquet, dinner trains, and a rare mileage excursion over the northern end of the A&M’s mainline, RPCA was a great opportunity for me to expand my horizons and learn more about the industry. I was also allowed to tour the railroad’s shop facility with the group, being granted access to facilities that are not commonly viewed by the public eye.
The Arkansas & Missouri Railroad still retains many of its unique ALCO locomotives that have been part of the company’s motive power roster since the mid-80s. The railroad also operates newer EMD six axle locomotives, including several of the SD70ACe series. While touring the shop, we were surprised to see EMDX no. 1602, which is one of the SD70ACe Tier 4 locomotives that the shortline was testing at the time. I was thankful to have been invited to the RPCA Conference and strongly encourage those interested in the industry to attend these annual conference events. Participating in organizations like RPCA can be great opportunities to learn more about the railroad industry as a whole. I know that I certainly gained great knowledge from attending this event and highly recommend it!

Scenic Ride Through The Ozarks! Arkansas & Missouri Railroad 10/28/18
On 10/28/18 we rode the Arkansas & Missouri railroad from Springdale to Van Buren, Arkansas. These were some clips I took of the train ride. It was a lot of fun, great scenery. They even had a banjo player on board the train, he was really good. I know the video is a bit long but I hope you guys will enjoy!

[HD] Alcos in the Ozarks; Chasing the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad: 7/25/14
I had found my way into the midwest in late July. Crossing the plains of Missouri would not be complete without a stop at the famed Arkansas and Missouri Railroad. The roster of almost exclusively Alcos runs approximately 300 miles in the namesake states. Some locomotives shown in the beginning of the video have heritage to Lehigh & Hudson River, Louisville & Nashville, Belt Rail of Chicago, Rutland, and much more.
Unit 44, a C420 from the L&N, was the power on the passenger train my dad and I chased close to 70 miles from Springdale to Van Buren. Shots include seeing the train being put together in Springdale, West Fork, Winslow, Chester, Mountainburg, and finally operations in Van Buren.
Up next, a blast back from the past in Kansas City.

HD: Big Engines On A Little Railroad: Arkansas & Missouri SD70ACes
Take a tour of the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad- a former Frisco route between Monett, MO and northwest Arkansas. Long known for its Alco fleet, the AM modernized operations with three new EMD SD70ACe units. Watch these powerful ACes lift their train out of Monett; through the plains of southern Missouri; and into the hills of northern Arkansas.
