Central Market—The Artistic Soul of KL
Central Market, the century-old establishment found in the middle of Kuala Lumpur and one of the city’s most significant art & craft centres, recently welcomed the addition of the brand new Kasturi Walk--a covered retail area built over Lorong Kasturi, the lane next to Central Market.
The newest addition to the site, the Kasturi Walk boasts 3 giant, awe-inspiring pewter-coated polycarbonate wau bulan.walk. The structure is constructed using modern architectural methods, yet the design--particularly the emphasis on the three wau bulans—manages to balance things out by adding in a heavy touch of Malay art, culture and heritage to the atmosphere. The walkway project is targeted at attracting more tourists and interest to the Malaysian arts and crafts centre.
Central Market began its life as an open wet market all the way back in 1888, and KL’s rapid development necessitated a proper building for all the vendors, and an upgrade in the 1930s created the appearance we know and love today.
KL’s rapid evolution soon resulted in the unfeasibility of a wet market located so deep inside the city’s urban jungle. Central Market would have been demolished in the 1970s, if not for the efforts of the Malaysian Heritage Society, which turned it into a centre for Malaysian culture, arts and handicraft. Central Market continues to promote Malaysian heritage to both locals and tourists alike to this very day.
Although the external appearance has remained unchanged, Central Market had undergone various upgrades throughout the years. Today, other than a variety of arts, handicrafts and cultural items, one can also find many modern facilities in Central Market as well as modern commercial shops such as Secret Recipe and Famous Amos—a blend of traditional wonder and modern convenience, all under one roof.
The role of Central Market as an arts centre was further expanded upon with the launch of the Annexe—a building located behind the main structure that houses a variety of different art galleries. Notable galleries include the Annexe Gallery (popular as a venue for contemporary art activities and exhibitions), Art House Gallery (the longest running private gallery in Malaysia, founded in 1965) Museum of Ethnic Arts (a massive collection of arts and crafts from tribal communities around Malaysia) and many more.

VISITING THE BATU CAVES + EATING INDIAN FOOD - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
This is a travel video of us visiting the Batu Caves and then feasting on a glorious Indian meal in an area that is 13 km north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Visiting the temples at an early time of the day turned out to be blessing as we beat all of the tour groups to the Batu Caves. Prior to climbing the 272 steps we noticed a huge flock of pigeons feeding nearby. Monkeys were everywhere scurrying about and generally being cheeky while eating, fighting and breeding. Once to the top we noticed quite a few chickens and rosters feeding inside. After a short time we could hear Hindu traditional music from several talented musicians. Finally, we rewarded ourselves with a glorious Indian feast. The final clip is of a time lapse sequence near the main entrance of the Batu Caves.

Batu Caves (Tamil: பத்து மலை), is a limestone hill, which has a series of caves and cave temples, in the Gombak district, 13 kilometres (8 mi) north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu or Batu River, which flows past the hill. Batu Caves is also the name of the nearby village. The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.
The limestone forming Batu Caves is said to be around 400 million years old. Some of the cave entrances were used as shelters by the indigenous Temuan people (a tribe of Orang Asli).
Batu Caves was promoted as a place of worship by K. Thamboosamy Pillai, an Indian trader. He was inspired by the 'vel'-shaped entrance of the main cave and was inspired to dedicate a temple to Lord Murugan within the caves. In 1890, Pillai, who also founded the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Kuala Lumpur, installed the murti (consecrated statue) of Sri Subramania Swamy in what is today known as the Temple Cave. Since 1892, the Thaipusam festival in the Tamil month of Thai (which falls in late January/early February) has been celebrated there.
Wooden steps up to the Temple Cave were built in 1920 and have since been replaced by 272 concrete steps. Of the various cave temples that comprise the site, the largest and best known is the Temple or Cathedral Cave, so named because it houses several Hindu shrines beneath its high vaulted ceiling.
Rising almost 100 m above the ground, the Batu Caves temple complex consists of three main caves and a few smaller ones. The biggest, referred to as Cathedral Cave or Temple Cave, has a very high ceiling and features ornate Hindu shrines. To reach it, visitors must climb a steep flight of 272 steps.
At the base of the hill are two more cave temples, Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave, both of which are full of Hindu statues and paintings. This complex was renovated and opened as the Cave Villa in 2008. Many of the shrines relate the story of Lord Murugan's victory over the demon Soorapadam. An audio tour is available to visitors.
Batu Caves serves as the focus of the Hindu community's yearly Thaipusam (Tamil: தைபூசம்) festival. It has become a pilgrimage site for not only Malaysian Hindus, but Hindus worldwide from countries such as India, Australia and Singapore.
A procession begins in the wee hours of the morning on Thaipusam from the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Kuala Lumpur leading up to Batu Caves as a religious place.
Batu Caves is easily reached by Komuter train using the Batu Caves-Port Klang Route, costing RM 2 for a one-way journey from KL Sentral. Batu Caves may also be reached by bus 11/11d from Bangkok Bank Terminus (Near to Puduraya Terminus) or bus U6 from Titiwangsa:

Leon Kennedy-Visionary painting in Rosenak Contemporary American Folk Art Collectors Guide
African-American spiritual visionary Leon Kennedy (b. 1945, Houston, Texas) uses paint, pencil, marker, and mixed media on found objects to create ecstatic visions, memory paintings, and urban life portraits. His works are always about the power and grace of God. Kennedy is featured on several pages of Rosenak's Contemporary American Folk Art (Abbeville, 1996), and in Betty-Carol Sellen's important survey, Self Taught, Outsider, and Folk Art (McFarland & Company, 1999), to name a few.
In 1997, the Smithsonian Institution purchased a bed-sheet by Leon Kennedy, and 200 other artist's works from the renowned Rosenak folk art collection for an estimated $2,000,000.
The 1997 Folk Art Messenger, Vol. 10, No.3, reported that the acquisition makes the Smithsonian American Art Museum the world's preeminent repository for American self-taught art.
It is our desire to see them as part of the history of 20th-century American art, said Chuck Rosenak.
Mentioning Leon Kennedy, the article notes these works were the first American collection exhibited at the Collection de l'Art Brut, Switzerland, which testifies to its quality and uniqueness. The Leon Kennedy masterwork painting now resides at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, while photos of Kennedy and other materials of Kennedy's are available for study at the archive at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

Esther Mahlangu - ex Africa semper aliquid novi - Kyo Noir studio
The Kyo Noir Studio continues the series of exhibitions entitled Ex Africa semper aliquid novi a quote from Pliny the Elder, which translated from Latin means Always something new from Africa, will be the starting point of spreading the culture, to general public, art and contemporary African artists, already protagonists in recent years on the international art scene.
The second series will focus on Esther Mahlangu well known international artist, who has participated in major exhibitions from “Magiciens de la Terre” the art exhibition Africa Remix and is present in the most important institutions, museums and private collections in the world. Her works are also appreciated in her own country, South Africa, where she is very popular. Starting from Mabhoko, the village where she lives, she has traveled the world to raise awareness of the Ndebele tradition of painting.
According to local tradition, Esther began to paint at a very young age under the guidance of her grandmother and mother, these paintings decorate homes and are renovated at the rite of passage from youth to adulthood of men and in fact the tradition of painting was entrusted exclusively to women . Today Esther Mahlangu, as she said during the interview with Antonella Pisilli, has transferred all her knowledge to both girls and boys of the Ndebele people to form a small army of persons able to decorate in Ndebele style everywhere around the world allowing this art and culture to spread and remain over time.
The classic Ndebele painting is the result of the combination of formal geometric forms, the triangular shape is repeated on a regular basis, the figures are created within a clear black line on a white background, the interior colours are flat and very lively with alternating and very decisive symmetry.
From an ancient African culture we reach a phenomenology of form where the spontaneous element carries with it a host of values, where the abstraction of reality leads us to a symbolic process representative of a culture. The abstract element takes over the pictorial element, namely the meaning. The geometric abstract art of the Ndebele tribe seems very close to the pure concepts of abstraction so dear to supremacists, the pure sensitiveness of the forms becomes the true essence and universality of art.
Esther Mahlangu has transferred these geometric forms on various infrastructures from canvas, to cars, from aircrafts to design, the aesthetic experience, that the contamination process produces and refers back to the Ndebele tradition, of having contaminated the world and having transferred its cultural tradition is the real artistic process accomplished by the painter.
In 1991 Mahlangu created the first African Art Car, decorating a BMW 525i with the typical Ndebele geometric design. In 1997 these designs were also placed on the aircraft tails of British Airways, in 2007 the same special painting technique has also been reproduced by the artist on the new Fiat 500 for the exhibition Why Africa? in Turin. Last year, she collaborated with a Swedish brand to design a limited edition of sneakers called Eytys.
In August this year she took part in a campaign promoted by the singer, John Legend, recreating the classic Ndebele design on a special edition bottle of Belvedere Vodka and the profits from the sale will be donated to the Global Fund for the fight against HIV / AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.
After 25 years she worked again with BMW and realized the interior of the BMW 7 Series that will be on display from 5 to 9 October at the Frieze Art Fair, which will be held at the Regent Park in London and the proceeds of the sale will go to charity.
The exhibition in Viterbo will be accompanied by an new unpublished video of an interview with the Artist by Antonella Pisilli.

SUMMARY
=======
The Dutch East Indies (or Netherlands East-Indies; Dutch: Nederlands(ch)-Indië; Malay: Hindia Belanda) was a Dutch colony consisting of what is now Indonesia. It was formed from the nationalised colonies of the Dutch East India Company, which came under the administration of the Dutch government in 1800.
During the 19th century, the Dutch possessions and hegemony were expanded, reaching their greatest territorial extent in the early 20th century. This colony was one of the most valuable European colonies under the Dutch Empire's rule, and contributed to Dutch global prominence in spice and cash crop trade in the 19th to early 20th century. The colonial social order was based on rigid racial and social structures with a Dutch elite living separate from but linked to their native subjects. The term Indonesia came into use for the geographical location after 1880. In the early 20th century, local intellectuals began developing the concept of Indonesia as a nation state, and set the stage for an independence movement.Japan's World War II occupation dismantled much of the Dutch colonial state and economy. Following the Japanese surrender in August 1945, Indonesian nationalists declared independence which they fought to secure during the subsequent Indonesian National Revolution. The Netherlands formally recognized Indonesian sovereignty at the 1949 Dutch–Indonesian Round Table Conference with the exception of the Netherlands New Guinea (Western New Guinea), which was ceded to Indonesia 14 years later in 1963 under the provisions of the New York Agreement.

SUMMARY
=======
Delhi (, Hindustani pronunciation: [dɪlliː] Dilli), officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT), is a city and a union territory of India containing New Delhi, the capital of India.
It is bordered by Haryana on three sides and by Uttar Pradesh to the east. The NCT covers an area of 1,484 square kilometres (573 sq mi). According to the 2011 census, Delhi's city proper population was over 11 million, the second-highest in India after Mumbai, while the whole NCT's population was about 16.8 million. Delhi's urban area is now considered to extend beyond the NCT boundaries and include the neighboring satellite cities of Faridabad, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Noida in an area now called Central National Capital Region (CNCR) and had an estimated 2016 population of over 26 million people, making it the world's second-largest urban area according to United Nations.
As of 2016, recent estimates of the metro economy of its urban area have ranked Delhi either the most or second-most productive metro area of India. Delhi is the second-wealthiest city in India after Mumbai, with a total private wealth of $450 billion and is home to 18 billionaires and 23,000 millionaires.Delhi has been continuously inhabited since the 6th century BC. Through most of its history, Delhi has served as a capital of various kingdoms and empires. It has been captured, ransacked and rebuilt several times, particularly during the medieval period, and modern Delhi is a cluster of a number of cities spread across the metropolitan region.
A union territory, the political administration of the NCT of Delhi today more closely resembles that of a state of India, with its own legislature, high court and an executive council of ministers headed by a Chief Minister. New Delhi is jointly administered by the federal government of India and the local government of Delhi, and serves as the capital of the nation as well as the NCT of Delhi. Delhi hosted the first and ninth Asian Games in 1951 and 1982, respectively, 1983 NAM Summit, 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup, 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2012 BRICS Summit and was one of the major host cities of the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
Delhi is also the centre of the National Capital Region (NCR), which is a unique 'interstate regional planning' area created by the National Capital Region Planning Board Act of 1985.

SUMMARY
=======
Omaha ( OH-mə-hah) is the largest city in the state of Nebraska and the county seat of Douglas County. Omaha is located in the Midwestern United States on the Missouri River, about 10 miles (15 km) north of the mouth of the Platte River. Omaha is the anchor of the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area, which includes Council Bluffs, Iowa, across the Missouri River from Omaha. According to the 2010 census, Omaha's population was 408,958, having increased to 466,893 as of the 2017 estimate. This makes Omaha the nation's 40th-largest city. Including its suburbs, Omaha formed the 60th-largest metropolitan area in the United States in 2013, with an estimated population of 895,151 residing in eight counties. The Omaha-Council Bluffs-Fremont, Nebraska-IA Combined Statistical Area is 931,667, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2013 estimate. Nearly 1.3 million people reside within the Greater Omaha area, comprising a 50 miles (80 kilometers) radius of Downtown Omaha, the city's center.
Omaha's pioneer period began in 1854, when the city was founded by speculators from neighboring Council Bluffs, Iowa. The city was founded along the Missouri River, and a crossing called Lone Tree Ferry earned the city its nickname, the Gateway to the West. Omaha introduced this new West to the world in 1898, when it played host to the World's Fair, dubbed the Trans-Mississippi Exposition. During the 19th century, Omaha's central location in the United States spurred the city to become an important national transportation hub. Throughout the rest of the 19th century, the transportation and jobbing sectors were important in the city, along with its railroads and breweries. In the 20th century, the Omaha Stockyards, once the world's largest, and its meatpacking plants gained international prominence.
Today, Omaha is the home to the headquarters of four Fortune 500 companies: mega-conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway; one of the world's largest construction companies, Kiewit Corporation; insurance and financial firm Mutual of Omaha; and the United States' largest railroad operator, Union Pacific Corporation. Berkshire Hathaway is headed by local investor Warren Buffett, one of the richest people in the world, according to a decade's worth of Forbes Magazine rankings, some of which have ranked him as high as No. 1. Omaha is also the home to five Fortune 1000 headquarters: Green Plains Renewable Energy, TD Ameritrade, Valmont Industries, Werner Enterprises, and West Corporation. Also headquartered in Omaha are First National Bank of Omaha, the largest privately held bank in the United States; three of the nation's largest 10 architecture/engineering firms: DLR Group, HDR, Inc., and Leo A Daly; the Gallup Organization, of Gallup Poll fame; and its riverfront Gallup University. Enron began in Omaha as Northern Natural Gas in 1930, before taking over a smaller Houston company in 1985 to form InterNorth, which Kenneth Lay moved permanently to Houston, in 1987. First Data, another Fortune 500 company, was founded in Omaha in 1971 and headquartered there until the late 90's. ConAgra Brand ...
