Asia Pacific Open 2019 - Shanghai
Competed at the Asia Pacific Open in Shanghai China. This competition was held on the 23rd of August 2019 at the FIBO Global Fitness Expo.
This competition was less than 8 weeks after competing at the Australian Championships so I wasn't overly optimistic that I could back up the stellar day I had there.
It was extremely hot and humid in Shanghai. I had to cut ~4kg of bodyweight in the 24 hours leading up to weigh ins and the heat made it difficult to rehydrate and replenish what I'd lost.
Weighed in 76.90kg/169lb
Squat - 3/3 making 248kg/547lb, 5kg under my best
Bench - 3/3 making 135/297lb for 1kg competition PB
Deadlift - 1/3 making only my opener of 273kg/601lb. Went for the World Powerlifting Deadlift World Record of 296kg and failed twice.
Total was 659kg.
A huge thanks to Will Berkman, my coach, for everything he's done for me and helping me get to this point.
Thanks to Yichen and World Powerlifting China for hosting this awesome event.
To all the volunteers (refs, spotters/loaders, pack up and set up crew, tech table etc) that contributed their time and skills so that this day could run -- thank you.
Thanks to Rob Wilks for coaching me on the platform, Manjot and Yani for being the best flunkies ever and Manjot again for taking all the meet footage.
Big shoutout to City Strength for continuing to support me and my lifting. Please check them out at citystrength.com.au
More work to be done and I'm looking forward bringing a better version of this in 2020.

APEC members agree to realize China-led FTAAP
폐막하는 2016 APEC, 멤버들 FTAAP 가속화 하기로
This year's APEC Summit has come to a close in Peru with 21 Pacific Rim nations agreeing to realize the China-led Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific.
The 2016 Leaders' Declaration was issued after world leaders at the summit wrapped up their discussions on promoting trade in the region.
The summit was held amid lingering global concerns of U.S.-led protectionism under the incoming Trump administration.
The Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific was first launched at the 2014 APEC meeting in Beijing,... and is expected to add an estimated two-point-four trillion U.S. dollars to the global economy.
Countries are expected to work on the deal's implementation until the next APEC Summit is held in Vietnam in 2017.

As you know, the issue of Taiwan representation is being worked out effectively in both ministerial and summits, it always creates some sensitivity as it has in the past with little questions, but I think is that we and I personally look forward to the participation of Taiwan at the appropriately high levels and I think that will be worked out in advance of this Shanghai summit.

7. SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) Lin Hsin-i, Taiwan Minister of Economy
We hope the host can amend its activities which are unfair to us in accordance with the usual practice. As we see it, all the APEC members joined the organization under the identity of economies and equal status. We all share equal rights and obligations, we want to reiterate our support on the mainland's hosting of this year's APEC meetings and are willing to make positive contributions to the meetings. However, we seriously request the host to deal with the matters regarding the participation of Chinese Taipei in a careful manner and in accordance with the APEC regulations.
8. Mid shot stage with APEC trade ministers
9. SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) Shi Guangsheng, China's Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation
What Mr Lin and Taiwan authorities described as an unfair treatment does not exist. About the request from the Taiwanese side for us to use Mr Lin's official title, it is impossible for us to do it, we simply cannot. We have our own difficulties. As for why, I think both of us are clear on it and I do not want to do any further explanation of this. About the question of whether Mr Chen Shui Bian can come to attend the meeting, I think the
Chinese side have already made it clear and I do not want to repeat it here, thank you.'
10. Wide shot end of news conference
STORYLINE:
The theme was Asia-Pacific economic cooperation, but stealing the limelight at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation trade ministers' news conference on Thursday was another round of bickering between China and Taiwan over symbolism.
China is hosting this year's APEC meetings, and at issue was the wording of Beijing's invitation to Taiwan's economic minister, Lin Hsin-i.
In response to a question by a Taiwanese journalist, Lin complained that China's invitation included neither his full name nor his title.
China's Foreign Trade Minister Shi Guangsheng was unapologetic, saying Beijing had been completely consistent with past practices of APEC.
China and Taiwan have had separate governments for more than 50 years, but Beijing still considers the island to be a renegade province rather than a sovereign state.
Therefore, use of Lin's official title might have been construed as acknowledgment by Beijing of the Taiwanese government's legitimacy.
Thursday's squabble is a preview of things to come, since Shanghai will also host the APEC leaders summit in October.
While Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian has said he wants to join the meeting for an historic cross-strait summit with Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Beijing has repeatedly rejected his offer.
For his part, US Trade Representative Robert B. Zoellick reiterated his support on Thursday for Chen's participation in APEC.
