Driving Across The Atchafalaya Basin Bridge - Interstate 10 - Louisiana
The Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, also known as the Louisiana Airborne Memorial Bridge, is a pair of parallel bridges in the U.S. state of Louisiana between Baton Rouge and Lafayette which carries Interstate 10 over the Atchafalaya Basin. With a total length of 96,095 feet (29,290 m) or 18.2 miles, it is the 3rd longest bridge in the US and the second longest on the interstate system and fourteenth-longest in the world by total length.
The bridge includes two exits: one for Whiskey Bay (LA 975) and another for Butte La Rose (LA 3177). While the bridges run parallel for most of their length, they merge when crossing the Whiskey Bay Pilot Channel and the Atchafalaya River. The average daily traffic count is (as of 2011) 24,540 vehicles.
Accidents occur frequently near the two river crossings as both are very narrow and lack shoulders. Accidents along the bridge can be problematic as the Atchafalaya Basin is sparsely inhabited. In 1999, Governor Mike Foster lowered the speed limit on the bridge from 70 MPH to 60 MPH. In 2003, the Louisiana Legislature enacted new traffic regulations for the bridge. The speed limit for 18-wheelers was lowered to 55 MPH, and they must remain in the right lane while crossing the bridge.

Atchafalaya Swamp Revisited
Emmy Award winning journalist and filmmaker Bill Rodman details nature photographer CC Lockwood's return to America's largest swamp wilderness, thirty years after his acclaimed Atchafalaya book and National Geographic article. Surprisingly, Lockwood finds the swamp's most interesting and threatened inhabitant has since vanished. The story Rodman weaves explores the degree to which the Atchafalaya Swamp has changed - naturally and culturally - since the great flood of 1927, while revealing an account of one of America's last and most intriguing frontier communities.
Atchafalaya Swamp Revisited received Suncoast Emmy Awards for Documentary Program and Writing in 2003.
The program was funded by the Atchafalaya Trace Commission and Heritage Area (atchafalaya.org) and supported, in part, by funds from the Louisiana State Arts Council, the Louisiana Division of the Arts and by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge through the Decentralized Arts Funding Program.

The 28 Mile Bridge In Louisiana
This video was shot during our return from Florida back in 2009. It is a trip across a bridge that stretches about 28 or so miles in length. in the state of Louisiana. Taped on October 12, 2009. I couldn`t believe just how LOOOOOOONG this bridge was. This bridge is located on Interstate 10. If I pronounced any of the names of places or rivers wrong, please excuse me.
LOUISIANA CAPITOL
Today I visit the Old and the New Louisiana Capitol Buildings. Both are located in downtown Baton Rouge only a few block apart.

On the other hand, The Great Wall of China, one of the greatest wonders of the world, was enlisted at approximately 6700 kilometers (4,163 miles ) from east to west of China... The Shanghai-Ningbou Bridge in East China which opened in 2007 runs approximately 36 kilometers (2 kms shorter than Causeway) and is considered the longest cross sea bridge in the world...
The Atchafalaya Swamp Freeway Bridge, from Lafayette to Baton Rouge, is an 18.2 mile (nearly 30 km) bridge across the Atchafalaya River in the State of Louisiana.

Video of fiery crash on I-10 West on Atchafalaya Basin Bridge
Fire on the Atchafalaya Basin (Louisiana)
Capture from my dashboard camera. The aftermath of a collision involving 4 18-wheelers. One of the trailers went over the bridge and another caught fire. 2 fatalities in the back of the truck. The aerial footage at this link: shows my car passing by it. I'm pretty sure I'm the last to get through before they started reversing the westbound traffic.
