Bat trang Ceramics Village - A sightseeing day in Hanoi
Bat Trang ceramics village, some 15km from Hanoi, the seven-century old pottery village, a highlight for just half day trip in Hanoi and a must to see on your northern trip Vietnam.
During 15th-17th century, Bat Trang’s ceramics were favorite products not only in domestic market, but also foreign ones thanks to Japan, Chinese and Western trading boats that passed by.
In the18th and 19th century, due to restricting foreign trade policy of Trinh, Nguyen dynasty, it was difficult for pottery products in Vietnam to be exported to foreign countries, and some famous pottery making villages like Bat Trang, or Chu Dau ( Hai Duong province) went through a hard time. Since 1986, thanks to economic reforms and development, more attention has been vested in the village and the world gets a chance to know more about Vietnamese porcelain through many high quality exported Bat Trang’s ceramic products.
Apart from daily items such as pots, cups, plates, stores sell a wide range of good such as interior decorations, worship items, etc.

TRAVELING AS IT IS! – is a compilation of raw video footages of my traveling adventure. My concept of traveling is riding public transportation, a road trip from home to a job destination or just a stroll around the neighborhood. You can hear, feel and see the “REAL” sights & sounds of a place or destination that are usually not tourist trail. There is a lot of street food to taste, adventures to encounter, lots of local friendly people to meet and sometimes, meeting fellow travelers wanting to share their own personal traveling experiences. ENJOYING LIFE - AS IT IS!

How to Bike in Hanoi if You Want to Survive | One Speed, One Heart, Ep. 2
Craig makes it to Hanoi, Vietnam, but his bike doesn't. After waiting anxiously for three days it finally shows up and he has the kind of reunion that only people who routinely travel with large, expensive pieces of athletic equipment can appreciate. It'll bring a tear to your eye.
But don't get too sentimental because it's time to hit the streets. Craig dives headlong into the seemingly chaotic Hanoi traffic patterns and, to everyone's surprise, discovers a method to the madness. Now that he's gotten his feet on the pedals he's headed towards China where the real adventure begins.

Adventures with the Buays- Vietnam Part 1: Hanoi
Just a snippet of the amazing part 1/4 of our family Vietnam trip!
Hanoi was such a beautiful, busy, bustling city with so much warmth and such a welcoming atmosphere.
The daily deluge of motorcycles simply got mixed together with all the other sounds and smells, all of which were an incredible assault on the senses.
Here, shops opened early into the morning and late into the night, which let us explore every little nook and cranny of the amazing places we heard of.
Everywhere, there were unique little street vendors selling cute little crafts.
Our tour guide took us on an EPIC food tour of the city, which you will witness in this video!!!
Enjoy!!!!

A Bat Trang trademark will make it easy for us to export products (to people) who value the identity of an ancient handicraft village. It will create more favourable conditions for export than ever before because the world will be able to be sure that the products are real Bat Trang pottery and they can make fast orders.

STORYLINE:
Bat Trang, a village on the Red River just outside Hanoi, has been producing ceramics and pottery for 1,000 years and is known throughout Vietnam for its quality and innovative wares.
Last year the village, which employs an estimated 30-thousand people, exported about 23 (m) million US dollars'' worth of ceramics.
There are hundreds of craft villages scattered across Vietnam with skilled artisans making everything from rattan and wrought iron furniture to silks and lacquerware.
But Bat Trang is special.
Its history can be traced back to a site outside the ancient capital of Hoa Lu in northern Vietnam where pottery artisans once gathered.
In 1010, the craftsmen moved with the capital to Hanoi, and relics of Bat Trang pottery and ceramics have been unearthed at the site of an ancient citadel there - evidence that even Vietnam''s royal families used wares created by the villagers'' ancestors.
Bat Trang products have been found in shipwrecks across Southeast Asia and exhibited in museums worldwide.
Foreign experts have been surprised to find that some of Bat Trang''s ancient techniques were more modern and sophisticated than expected, similar to relics found in Japan and China, says Duong Trung Quoc, a Vietnamese historian.
Workshop owner Pham Van Quang said he believes a Bat Trang trademark will help improve exports, because customers will be able to trust what they are buying.
After the Vietnam War ended in 1975, the communists forced Bat Trang''s villagers to produce bowls and plates but Hung says they were paid only pennies for a day''s work, enough to buy just over three pounds of rice.
It was when Vietnam started opening up its economy and promoting private businesses that the village began making money.
Today ceramic-filled shops line both sides of the street leading into the village and a large outdoor market booms near the river.

TOUCH VIETNAM - Pottery Making In Hanoi | Sens Asia Travel
Jumping on a train from Hanoi out to the ceramic village is much like stepping into a time machine and out into the country’s rural past. The train soars through sumptuous rice fields towards the soothing vista of the local river before slowing to a halt at the village market. Here, visitors can taste the local cuisine and have a go at making traditional pottery, a practice which hasn’t changed for hundreds of years. Artisans at the local pottery factory treat visitors with care, and their love and respect for the soil from which the clay is born is infectious. The experience of visiting the village is still as real and raw as it would have been over a century ago.
We'd like to say a special thanks to Jackie & Mark for featuring in this video.

Lifestyle Vietnam 2019 | Vietnam Craft Villages
In the past, after harvest time, Vietnamese people made handicraft works to meet their own needs. Their products are very skillful and sophisticated, even though they are farmers and do not specialize in handicrafts. The techniques were kept secret, but taught to relatives or fellow villagers.
The village, therefore, became a very important institution in the handicraft industry. The village's name became the trademark of handicraft products made by its villagers. Đình làng- the village's temple became the place of worship and tổ nghề the man who first taught the villagers to do these handicraft works.
When urbanization came to Vietnam, many people came to towns/cities and professionalized in the handicraft works they had done in their old village. They did not compete with one another but gathered in phường/hội, the new form of handicraft village, to help others to improve.
The Vietnamese government has recognised about 1500 handicraft villages, of which about 300 are traditional handicraft villages. These villages maintain the country's handicraft heritage.
